I watched a recent Youtube video where the guy showed his inexpensive solar rig that he used to mine BTC with solar power.
We're talking about nodes here, not miners.

"Wait why portable?"
To simplify the blockchain hosting (Nodes) thing and increase participation.
Combined Data Storage Device,  Internet device & Solar power = Portable.
Ahh but solar power isn't exactly strong enough to power a device. Even if you somehow discover a new material to do it, you'll be holding it and have it facing the sun for hours a day. Solar power isn't readily available either. The cost of internet would just make this whole thing unfeasible.

Even if its not portable, I'm sure the participation would still be relatively good. Bitnodes (not sure who they are now) used to have such a device but its basically just a raspberry pi.

"The largest 3.5' HDD is 10TB, go figure."
Notice my use of  the word "Imagine."  However, a company could  combine several of HDD to increase the capacity to let say 100TB.
Okay, its quite out of proportion to say 100TB right now since the blockchain is still relatively smaller than even 10TB. Lets just put it at 10TB.

The current 10TB HDD could cost upwards of $200 and I really really don't recommend anyone carrying it around. Its not meant to be portable. Even if its an SSD, 10TB is quite far of right now, 4TB being a thousand dollars.

This might be a less expensive if you buy in bulk. ^smile^

It is currently trivial to spin up a nearly unlimited number of what appear to be nodes at very little cost. These nodes likely do more harm than good to the network. If nodes earn a monetary reward for being a (fake) node, then this activity will be more prevalent.

The reason why someone should run a node today is because they are receiving payments from someone else prior to them giving something of value in return (ie, the other person is 'sending first'). I don't think it makes sense to give incentives for more people than that to run a node.

YouTube kind of Blockchain website (video sharing site) could make this necessary.  It is infact my reason for creating this post

Imagine having a single Device for all Blockchain Nodes (Portable Node device)
Wait why portable?
that could consist of 400 Terabytes of Data Storage Device,
The largest 3.5' HDD is 10TB, go figure.
an Internet device and solar panels which people can buy from companies.
You do realise how much data cost right?
Would this Work?
Its more of a fantasy than anything.

I am kind of thinking that Blockchain sector would be more decentralized if Cryptocurrencies (including Bitcoin) begin to incentivize their Nodes to encourage MORE participation in the Node area , so that Companies can focus on creating the Portable Node devices which would hopefully crash the price of the Device and Data Storage devices in general.
Okay so lets ignore the incentivisation of nodes since it has been discussed over and over again. In the first place, people don't need a dedicated device to run a full node. With the creation of such a device, someone has to pay for the research and people have to buy them. You can probably buy a house for the device that you're going to create. We don't need nodes to be portable, just diversed.

Combine these into a box? :  Data Storage Device + Internet device + Solar power = Portable.
