Not bad. I think the merit system should adjust and do the following two things:
1. Limiting the maximum merits which each post can receive from one user.
2. Limiting the maximum merits which each user can send to another per day.

Those two will help us to control spammers, cheaters a little bit better. They can buy/ sell/ exchange hundreds of merits daily to only one user.

In addition, I think the system should be adjusted to give users, paricularly lower-rank users, such as Junior Members like me, a period-gifted merits. The number of automatically allocated merits should be discussed more. For example, 1 merit per month. It's not much, but it will give new users motivation to join the forum. For newbies, new users, I guess it is a little bit hard for them to write such as meaningful, constructive, high-qualitied posts, right?

They should have another chance. It's simply my opinion.

The limitations on maximum merits donated per user per day sound good, and should be taken into consideration too.

I think merit system should operate that way. 1 merit per month per user almost means nothing for them; it simply gives them motivation to keep forward and contribute.
I am not sure that limiting how much merit you can give to a post is going to solve that abuse by itself. It might be a good idea, but it still doesn't stop someone from giving 5 merit each to 10 posts instead of 50 to 1. It has the same effect. Instead maybe limiting how much merit you can give to a certain person, or how much you can give in a single day, etc. would be more effective, though just negging people that are clearly abusing the system might already solve this before it becomes a problem.
Great! More people discused, more ideas come out. I think the author of the topic should update interesting ideas from others to his/her OP as a nutshell of topic's discussions.

Hate to say this - but you lot look like a bunch of farmed accounts.. all with a similar structure username, all with that silly altcoin under your avatar space and all span up within a month of each other.

I am no forensic guy, but it looks odd to me - maybe some others will comment about it.

Good eye. On the face of it someone would not notice that. They are all very similar.
In all seriousness tho if people are posting constructively then they should not have a problem with the merit system. I can see what op is saying with
1. for good quality post
2. for somewhat better than good quality post
3. for high-qualitied post.
4. for somewhat better than high-qualitied post.
5. for extremely high-qualitied post.
Scale and yes it should work like that if you post good quality a merit and top merits where deserved.

As pointed out by TMAN, I also think that these account must be linked with each other as there are too much similarities between their username pattern, posts and personal text. Why these same looking accounts are posting on a same thread ? Is this coincident or something else ? I am not sure but still have doubts.

The more I read the posts the similarities are too close, the use of the English language is a dead giveaway..

I am pretty sure they will be tagged soon

Hi all,

Merit system is so hot recent days after its launch by Theymos.
The system has both positive and negative sides. In the topic, I would like to discuss about how to control negative sides of the system.

The following topic gives us some evidence about recent abusement on young merit system.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-users-that-are-abusing-merit-system-2823221

Personally, Theymos should limit the maximum number of merits for each thread. The range of merits received/ donated might be somewhere between 1 to 5 (measurement scale). For example:
1. for good quality post
2. for somewhat better than good quality post
3. for high-qualitied post.
4. for somewhat better than high-qualitied post.
5. for extremely high-qualitied post.

This sort of merit measurement scale will better control sell/buying sMerits between users.

Do you agree or disagree with my ideas on Merit Measurement Scale?

Feel free to discuss.

For OP, thanks for the thought on this merit point system. It is a good addition if there is someone suggesting something.
But for this statement and suggestion, I must say I disagree with your suggestion.
This will discourage great and excellent person to make something great. Imagine if you about to make a post and you make it different like using infographic, animation, video, or other work and after that you will only get 1-5 merit point, the same as people who only post normally just by using words. It is almost the same like this situation in real life :
1. You are in a study group arranged by your teacher to do some task. Some of your friend didnt do it properly and some didnt even do it, you make the hardwork there, but then your teacher give you guys all the same score/mark, do you accept it?
2. You are a worker in a big company that is in your expertise of skills. You work hard and give your all, because it is a work in the area of your skills. You make alot of great contribution, but then your boss decided to promote your co worker which is not doing good like you since your boss only gives you the same point, and coincidencely your coworker friend is already working there before you, so he get the promotion because all point are  the same but he is already work there before you, yet you make all the great work and effort.

What do you think about it? How do you feel about it?

Sounds good, but if you think that  "5 sMerits is not enough for a really high-quality post"? How much will you propose? I think the forum should limit the maximum sMerits each post can receive from other users. That might be the idea behind the Merit Measurement Scale.

Merit System should have minimum (of course 1 sMerit) and maximum sMerits for each post!. It should be discussed and implemented in the near future. There are lots of users who have already tried taking advantage of those drawbacks of current merit system.

But they are still the ones who will decide and classify how good is that post be. I mean yes you have given them guidelines in the merit scale but they are still the ones who will determine what is good quality post for them. The measurement scale will only prevent users from giving above 5 sMerits per post which I also don't think is a good idea as I think 5 sMerits is not enough for a really high quality post.
