SHA256's are basically secure hash algorithm which are meant to provide better security. Once encrypted, it cannot be decrypted back to the original.

SHA-256 is a one-way functionality that translates a text message of any distance into a cord of 256 bits. This is recognized as a hashing function. In this case, it is a cryptographically sheltered hashing function, for the motive that knowing the production tells you hardly any about the input. This is an adapted version of SHA1, which in turn is a modified SHA0. All three are now broken, to some magnitude.

In the SHA-256 algorithm the message is padded & divided into 512-bit blocks. SHA-256 is more secure and trustworthy than the other six variants of SHA family. Thats why most of the major SSL Certificate issuers use SHA-256.

SHA-256 is an algorithm which is mainly used in the Altcoins. But, that does not mean that all the Altcoins base on that algorithm will be same. Algorithm is not only thing that makes a cryptocurrency. There are other significant parts that are neccessary in a cryptocurrency, and those parts are what differs an Altcoin from another even though they are based on the same algorithm.

First off SHA-256 is a cryptographic hash function. SHA-256 algorithm creates an almost unique, fixed size 256bit aka 32 byte hash. If you're interested in the technology there are several platforms that provide an in-depth source of information that explains what it does, how it differs from others and so on. I'd suggest on doing a little research on your own to get a better idea.

You're right, there have been lots of altcoins in circulation, technically I don't understand about SHA256. But the difference is only part of the system. Please wait for experts who have analyzed further about this fundamental problem. Surely they will explain your question here.

Your thought is not wrong in the fundamental way. The basic process and the way of dealing are almost the same. Just the provider and the commodities are different.

Hi all,
There is a multitude of altcoins now.
Some use SHA256, some use Scrypt, etc.
But how do ones that use SHA256 in particular differ from one another?
I have a feeling the difference is rather trivial and meaningless.
Can anyone explain in technical terms?
