Hey everyone!

I run blog.coincafe.com, and I wanted to share some of our recent articles with you! We've been conducting an interview series with various companies that accept Bitcoin.

Today, we posted our interview with Lee Wallis, a designer who left his old company because his boss wouldn't accept Bitcoin and started his own competitor company. From the interview - "Personally, what excites me more is getting Bitcoin into the hands of the billions of unbanked people around the world. That’s where lives are really going to change." He has a really exciting story to tell, and I couldn't believe his passion for Bitcoin!

We've also had interviews with various Etsy vendors, Autism Speaks, and Elizabeth DuBois (owner of the first BTM in NYC).

Recently, I also posted about my experiences with Proof of Workout, including an interview with Emily Vaughn from BitPay.

I would love for you to check out the blog! We have a lot of posts coming up, including interviews with OkCupid & CoinTelegraph!

Thanks!!!

What was that Alt coin you could mine through the mobile phone movement? If you shake your phone, it mines coins for you? Ah... MangoCoin!

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-mangocoinz-official-ann-thread-mine-cryptocurrencies-on-you-smart-phone-902788

I think that was the closest I got to doing something to get fit from Bitcoin....or well... a Alt coin. Anything to get us out into the sun again.. but just beware, too much of the

sun, could be bad for you too...  Grin

Maybe I should get fit too, I don't think using a computer for 12+ hours a day is good for me.

Just buy a pull up bar and every time you walk past it, do some pull ups. http://matt.might.net/articles/hacking-strength/

Yeah, 12 hours may be a bit much on a daily basis. Could start out with some small walks to break it up or something. Myself, even when I spend time at the computer I have some small dumb bells nearby I will work with, along with some hand strength grips. Anything extra you can sneak in on a daily basis can help. Probably at minimum get up and stretch once an hour, maybe do a couple of jumping jacks or something...

Sounds interesting. Instead of spending and spending a boring mundane afternoon looking at the screen and watching the price movement, life is much better spent doing useful and healthy workout.

Totally agree! Should come up with an app like Map my Walk, or Run Keeper type which allows people to "compete" with one another while doing their workouts.

I would have liked to participate in the Proof of workout but shame it's already gone.
I would love for it to happen again! It was a really great idea!

Perhaps it would be good to post a push up challenge  Roll Eyes (i.e 10,000 satoshis per push up to the winner, and 7,000 to the second, or whatever). A symbolic, not very high payment would do.  Grin
Haha, I'm not very good with push ups, so that would give me an incentive to try to get better!

I think combining Bitcoin with fitness would allow us to tap into the Instagram community a little more. There's a HUGE Instagram community for fitness and... basically no community on there for Bitcoin. I was complaining about this to my boyfriend (I'm very visual, so I prefer Instagram to Twitter), and he said that he didn't think people who used Instagram typically liked Bitcoin. I don't necessarily agree with him, and I think we could get some new Bitcoin users if a challenge like that was done on Instagram!

Yeah, it's nice to see Bitcoin used for/associated with something SO healthy & good for you! I definitely know some people who only know the more negative aspects of Bitcoin's history, and when I told them about the Proof of Workout challenge & Gyft, they were really interested in it! It's great to spread the good uses of Bitcoin that people who aren't too familiar with it can easily understand.

I have heard of an idea (not sure where, I think in zapchain) about paying Bitcoin for every heartbeat. When you workout, the heart rate raises, so it would be kinda a pay per workout.

The question is ... who would pay it. Besides, there are other ways to raise the heart rate that are not as healthy

But I like a lot the idea of getting some reward from being healthy / working out. It would be great to see government policies supporting that in the (far) future.

This thread reminds me that I have to take a vacation from Bitcoin and get my ass on the gym again. I've been too absorbed researching, watching videos and writing about BTC and looking at too many code lines i think I may be developing lordosis from too much sitting. I can't wait until my local gym accepts Bitcoin payments to come back unfortunately.
I would love if there was a gym near me that accepted Bitcoin payments! I've been thinking that ClassPass should definitely accept BTC, since it's such a technological company already.

Unfortunately I don't see any gym accepting BTC anytime soon, they are so oblivious to its existence. It may take a lot of time until we see the first ones. I would be happy to see something like Planet Fitness accepting it even tho I don't like their gyms but they are the most famous ones.
Yeah, that's why I'm holding out hope for something like ClassPass to accept it, since I don't have a lot of faith in gyms accepting it.

Recently, I also posted about my experiences with Proof of Workout, including an interview with Emily Vaughn from BitPay.
Funny (dark) reference:
Black Mirror: Fifteen Million Merits

Still... I like the idea.  You get some token based on PoW that you can use for discounts on your gym membership, or sports drinks, or running shoes.  Not a bad marketing idea.

Yeah, Proof of Workout was a really cool idea! It was fun to participate in it, because it built a tighter knit community around fitness. Right now, there's tons of fitness posts on Instagram/Twitter/etc., but it's such a popular and widespread topic that it can be hard to form a real community. But with the two interests, Bitcoin AND fitness, it targeted a specific group of people who could work together to motivate each other to work out - especially in exchange for Gyft cards and other Bitcoin-related prizes.

It was super interesting to talk to Emily Vaughn and realize that it all started as an April Fool's joke and then evolved into something real.

I think it's also a great way to increase adoption. My parents don't know a ton about Bitcoin, but they were really interested in hearing about Proof of Workout and how I got a free pair of Nikes just for working out and "proving" it, so it gives people a reason to want to hear more about Bitcoin.
