Thanks to bitcointalk and the community I’ve been able to run several charity auctions which enabled me to raise several thousand dollars for great causes.  Giving back has always been important to me and buddies on here, from all over the globe, helped make giving back that much more impactful. Will be holding another charity auction soon as well. Thought I’d share how btc/ bitcointalk is helping me to give back

Government and centralised system has painted Bitcoin/Cryptos as a scheme to acquire but then, these events actually puts crypto owners as not just takers but philanthropist. Some of these events might not have solely been funded by the forum but, it births from here.
You know crypto in general has created an opportunity to be financially independent and not completely entangled with the centralised system of the government. Those who have had a taste of this pie like members of this forum which strengthens our knowledge & interest the more on bitcoins, often feel pity for those who are still completely under the centralised government system that has eliminated or kept their opportunities in check. Philanthropic acts that has been birthed here on this forum and carried out by members is a show to say that we are still empathetic towards the situation of people under the centralised government system, and a lure/seduction to them as well to cryptocurrency. More philanthropic acts should be encouraged to cement the golden image this forum is giving to bitcoins.

BTC, a coin of today and tomorrow.
The way people campaign for bitcoin differs from country to country. In some countries you don't need much sensitization because they are advance in civilization and has human right. But in some other countries, you have to be able to convince people that you are not a scammer or into ponzi scheme whenever you mention bitcoin to them. Then you still need to be careful and afraid of the government and their secret agents who always hunt for people that are into crypto.

@Smartvirus

We got a project like you have mentioned also in the German local Board created from 1miau in the past!
[ERFOLG] Neue Spendenkampagne - Anbau von Reis in den Philippinen
And yes it would be a good thing to maybe get Bitcointalk youtube Episode for some or about some nice charity projects.
If not have done it , maybe just write some post with your idea in the Bitcointalkshow thread , all ideas welcome there and gives content for future videos.

Once a man, twice a child!
we need to fight against this. Charity and enlightenment are good ways to go about that
Well, good suggestions there. However, I believe in the saying that "it takes result to cancel out insult." Those who struggle to paint Bitcoin/cryptos bad will eventually swallow their hatred once they begin to see those they know are into it prosper from it. It's all about the benjamins. I don't even bother engaging in any argument to make people believe in the good that's Bitcoin. Those who don't see it now are likely to see it a few years from now. After all, I started mine in 2017 while there were those who did 10 years before I did.

Perhaps there needs to be a system, where permission needs to be granted by theymos with certain criteria needed to use the forum name.
I ain't sure theymos (with all his busy schedules) would want to get involved in a stuff like that as it expectedly will be distractive to him.

I have tried educating my friends about crypto but it is hard to convince them. The way of thinking in my country is that people really want to stay away from risky ways to make money. They are satisfied with less returns but they want it fixed. Thus it is hard for me to convince friends to invest in crypto. However, I still feel that crypto is future and all of my friends will eventually realize that they must use and invest in crypto. They will learn it own their own though.

I remember when I was first contacted to carryout this project, I was asked to use my personal funds which I did without second thought because I do this occasionally but didn't announced it and when I was asked officially I knew I could touch many hearts. One interesting thing about my outreach then was understanding how people thinks any free donations are from the government. Seems people don't believe individual can volunteering do goods anymore or maybe since the government were giving out peanuts in name of palliative, they thought we got sent by them but glad we were able to convince them especially after seeing what we came with, it was more than any government has done.

Bitcoin has a very bad reputation among the elderly locals due to how the government has portray it and seeing it been associated with scams more than good, we need to fight against this. Charity and enlightenment are good ways to go about that but we'll always have those that'll take advantage of this for their selfish needs. Therefore I buy into this ideas
Perhaps there needs to be a system, where permission needs to be granted by theymos with certain criteria needed to use the forum name.
or better still do your things independently without involving the forum through donations etc unless the forum ask for your help for an outreach in your locality.

Bitcoin needs you!
There is no doubt in my mind that bitcointalk has promoted bitcoin/crypto and increased the popularity of bitcoin/crypto. There have been many philanthropists on this forum and countless members have given generously towards charities and this is to be highly commended. But, theymos needs to think about the future, where the name of the forum may well be used in unscrupulous activities. We’ve seen a certain charity which has used the bitcointalk forum name in its work and and unfortunately it appears that some funds were used in a fraudulent manner.
Perhaps there needs to be a system, where permission needs to be granted by theymos with certain criteria needed to use the forum name. The forum name does not want to be associated with any fraudulent/ unscrupulous behaviour. My 2 sats anyway.

1. Do we grasp the opportunities to enlighten ignorant forks on what bitcoin/cryptos is all about?
2. Do we really engage in any activity to teach locals about bitcoin/cryptos?
2. How has bitcoin helped someone close to you or even yourself?
1. Yes there are people/users who shows the idea of fork so new members or those who doesnt have idea on bitcoim forks gain some knowlesge on how it works.

2. This is depends on different locals, but in our locals lots of members posted some topic regarding bitcoin and its uses, purpose and objective.

3. First it did help me to learn how cryptocurrency works. It also helps me on my financial needs which a good thing for normal people like me. But Im not relying on it as source of income.

Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin

Suggestion
I'll like to use this singular opportunity to suggest that, real-life events that birth from this forum should be regarded as bitcoin oriented and therefore run on the TheBitcoinTalkShow. This would earn not just the forum but bitcoin some publicity it needs and also, teach to the people.
There is an opened thread by BtcTalkShow where anyone can freely recommend a thread, post or event to be hosted on the show, I think that will fasten up your idea to get feature on the show.

Here is the suggestion thread >>[BitcoinTalkShow]Best of January suggestions<<

Permit me to combine your questions together.
To be honest, those donations were significant and aided many families, but we all have limitations in terms of how we want to educate or transmit information, especially in an atmosphere where you must persuade people several times before they would listen to your counsel.
I have stopped evangelising some locals about the doings of bitcoin, why?
I have usually had challenges with two sets of people.

The average money wanderers: The expectation out there is very high in the sense that they want something that will yield faster results and a quick profit, ones the expectation doesn't go as planned, they give up.
The below-average will listen to you but will never want to take a step because of money hindrance to begin.
The easiest way to spread bitcoin/crypto are students, I discussed and chat with them at the given opportunity and the responses I get amaze me as some of them already know about what bitcoin is all about but not much detail.

A NEW FACE FOR BITCOIN FROM BITCOINTALK

The emergence of bitcoin, came with the emergence of bitcointalk in 2009. Since then, bitcoin as a currency and the crypto initiative has been faced and continues to be plagued by criticisms from both government, anti-bitcoin/cryptocurrency and enemies of decentralisation. These they do by propagating the seed of fear through misconceptions and FUD on bitcoin/cryptos true nature and limit bitcoin/cryptos to being;

- A ponzi scheme
- A scam currency
- A big bubble ready to burst
- A currency for the rich only
- A non sustainable development without any real use case

These and so many other nonsense they continue to float around and by that, holding the innocent forks that doesn't see the need for a research hostage on a possible future through decentralisation and bitcoin. By that, they continue to remain in the shackles of the government and centralized systems. Fortunately, bitcoin is truly decentralized and investors upon the system do so out of there own freewill and as such, it seems untouchable. In other for government to accord some truth to there claim, they outlaw its actual use and place a ban on mining activities with hopes to crumble the system but still and like the phoenix, Bitcoin still continues to grow.

It's amazing how thees happens despite the government use of the media to spread FUD and discourage any actual usage by placing bans. Bitcoin has a truth nature about it, that no matter how hard you try to cover the truth, it would one day get to surface and bitcoin often surfaces to those who care to research. This involves asking the right questions of the right people and active participation on bitcointalk.

How Bitcointalk Is Changing The Bitcoin/Crypto Perspective Of Locals

When I look back at certain memorable events that births from this forum, I've come to realise that the forum has identified with the world problems than it's actually known. Government and centralised system has painted Bitcoin/Cryptos as a scheme to acquire but then, these events actually puts crypto owners as not just takers but philanthropist. Some of these events might not have solely been funded by the forum but, it births from here.
A few of these events includes and are not limited to;

Project Covid-19 By Royse777
Of which, some of its big players where:
Hhampuz, Darkstar_, Cryptoprenuerbrainboss, Cabalism13.
The donation gave room for other distress situations too but then, our focus is on the Covid-19 aid and we got results like-

Project Covid-19 : supply to 20 families in Nigeria (Completed successfully) By Cryptoprenuerbrainboss

Here is yet another in Recent time

Here is yet another for which I served as an escrow and also funded
The death of Becky666. Summary on how it went down to his left behind: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.57090177

This is to list only but a few, as I can't account for the many other foundations that births from the forum.

I don't know how some of these activities where carried out but then, like the forum, these activities provides a medium for interaction with those at the grass root and in turn, discussion. As we give, we should as well try to teach. We won't be solving just an immediate problem of a need but also, the future problem of laying a crypto foundation for these persons. It was really satisfactory from proof of aid presented by the organisers of these aids that, the forum did solve aid in solving societal problems. Seeing them smile, felt like seeing a soldier at war smile. People believe mostly based on what they could see, let's help make a virtual reisation birth a physical nature in the minds of these persons and bitcoin/crypto currency would continue to have a new look.

Suggestion
I'll like to use this singular opportunity to suggest that, real life events that births from this forum should be regarded as bitcoin oriented and therefore run on the TheBitcoinTalkShow. This would earn not just the forum but bitcoin some publicity it needs and also, teach to the people.

I'll conclude by asking ourselves a few questions:
1. Do we grasp the opportunities to enlighten ignorant forks on what bitcoin/cryptos is all about?
2. Do we really engage in any activity to teach locals about bitcoin/cryptos?
2. How has bitcoin helped someone close to you or even yourself?
