There are many many free bitcoin sites, they all only give you a few satoshis, but if you are curious, this could be a good start to get a fisrt balance in your wallet.

I have posted a list of legit sites offering free bitcoins over here: http://bitcoin.lift-institute.com/free-bitcoins/

Or you could rent out your apartment. The AirBnB competitor 9flats accepts bitcoin now.

You could do some freelance work in exchange for bitcoins if you've got a desired skill.

You may want to buy some bitcoins when it dips low enough.  The question remains, how low will it go before it climbs again.

at this time selling/buying something except Bitcoin itself seems to me very doubtful and risky due huge instability in exchange rates.
hm. selling/buying Bitcoin itself TOO. Smiley

in last two days we had $180 price difference (down) and in last two months - ca $240 (up). this is not good.
if anything goes stable, then it should be fine and welcome option for BTC stability. even vital.

...or someone must "detach" itself from real currencies (dollars etc) right today - then buy/sell goods should go maybe, but does that anyone now?
if yes AND if it works financially - they all are my heroes ))

Creating bitcoins is via mining, most people obtain their coins by purchasing them

By "invest" do you mean purchase BTC? Or do you mean investing in something else, e.g. investing my fiat in something the pays out in BTC?

Are there any examples?

You can invest... But selling goods has the lowest barrier to entry.
