If you have over 1000 gears then toss a couple hundred $ and hire someone to label them.

Throw in another couple hundreds and get a managment software like awesomeminer which will email/text you about any issues with any of your miners.

Or not...

if your miner has a fan / board issue, it will not be mining, it will be almost "off" , only the fans and the control board will be running , but you can still spot the faulty miner by turning  the lights off and looking for a red blinking led instead of green because that's what the miner does when there is something wrong.

anyhow, i guess if you have a large number of machines, or even a mid-range scale, you should label them ! it's important to do so, if you have 1 faulty miner you can spot it, but what if 2 or 5 ? how are you going to know which one is which?  it will be time consuming IMO.

That's why I used to power them off, the lights would be dark so it was easy to find. I have over 1000 machines so you can now understand my problem.

There are 3rd party firmware packages that will restore SSH, although they also have an Find Miner option so you may not need to power off.

No need to use any 3rd party firmware to restore SSH. Flashing the miner with SD card will downgrade the firmware and enable SSH.

Source from here: S9 series (S9, S9i, S9j, S9 Hydro) Control Board Program Recovery.

After that, since the tools and firmware you use is t9+ you must flash it again with s9 firmware. Just make sure don't flash it with 2019 firmware, best stable firmware is "Antminer-S9-all-201711171757-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz".

I need to lower them off if my software finds hashboard or fan issues. A powered off machine is easier to find on a rack too. My sense is that Bitmain hasn’t implemented it yet in BMMiner.

... Did you try to check the awesomeminer because they are developing some feature like rebooting without SSH access? Through web interface.

I think this feature has not been implemented yet in Awesomeminer , I tried some S9s running 2019 firmware (SSH disabled) and it did not work, OP why do you want to power-off the miner anyhow? you know there is no way to totally power-off the miner on a software level, the fans and leds will still run as long as they plugged in , an alternative to this would be using a wireless relay , something like this > https://www.amazon.com/Switches-Wireless-Control-Automation-Compatible/dp/B07FPCJ1L4/

You will be able to completely shutdown the miner from any place with an internet access.

I can't find a URL that you can use to shut down or power off the miner. I think there is no power off it may only turn the miner into idle?

I can reboot as follows:

http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/reboot.cgi

Is there a similar hook for powering off? I used to do this by issuing the 'poweroff' command via SSH...
