Probably there are not so many users for this service. People like to send SMS for free and also not all people will do this.  Wink

I think because SMS is free there is space for a shift in perspective. Look at how snap chat showed that people wanted something other than free and unlimited sharing of photos, it created a constraint.

I think paying for access with btc through SMS or voice can create some interesting dynamics.

RIP Mommy
I think this is necessary to destroy craigslist flakes. Want to buy something? You've just paid for it, now come and get it.

What I really would like to know is how I can technically do this? What does the code need to look like?

I would really appreciate if someone would give me some guidance on how it could be done.

I want to develop a program that has bitcoin serve as a paywall for sending a text message to someone else.

Scenario:

1. Bob wants to send Sally a text message.
2. Sally only wants to recieve a 140-character text message if she gets paid $.05/message received.
3. Bob writes and sends a message, along with $.05 worth of btc to Sally.
4. Sally receives message along with $.05 of btc in her wallet from Bob.

How can I make this work with code?

you can ask raintip method to sent a bitcoin through via twitter, you can give someone bitcoin among tweet something to that person,i'm forget what that twitter name.

So it is very similar to the system they use, when you pay for the SMS's you send as a entry to a competition or to take part in a radio discussion. Kind of like a monetary spam filter to prevent people to misuse a system and if they do, they will have to pay for it? You could for example call in a financial expert and people can send text messages with their question and it has to be accompanied by a small payment, before it gets answered? Is this, that kind of thing you have in mind?

You do not have to have a special system developed for that, just add a note in the transaction and link that to some website, where the paid questions are hosted.

Yes, this is very close to what I had in mind. I am lost with regards to your last sentence...about adding a note to the transaction and linking it to a website?

Can you elaborate?

Thank you for the response.

People can be anonymous with bitcoin in many ways if they choose to. I am not looking to create an communication platform where btc's role is to determine/distribute value to the users communicating.

I would like btc to serve as a paywall for communications between two parties. This includes voice calls, but I think implementing it with text messages to start with will be easier.

I think someone should be able to charge anyone who calls or send them text messages. This could create an interesting market dynamic where users can charge/pay for access to others.

What about anonymity ? Dissolves the entire point of CryptoCurrencies. If you're speaking of recharging the phone balance's with bitcoins, such services do exists maintaining the anonymity. Not sure if we're on the same pages.

Interesting. Why text message though ? You can simply send a notification from her Phone's wallet(if she has one installed).Something like "Bitcoins Received,Open for details".However if you still wish you use text messaging system to notify users of their online transfers ,you'd have to integrate a messaging system (like most of the e-commerce sites do).Should not be that difficult.Try exploring a free sms Api.
