When the Anonymous DDoS Mastercard Attack made headlines, someone mentioned Bitcoin as a safe way to donate to Wikileaks. I've been hooked ever since.

I actually knew about bitcoins a bit before the bubble began. I was taking a computer security class during my senior year in college and we got on the topic during the spring. Fascinated, I jumped on the bandwagon, began researching, and was super stoked when my POS graphics card was able to do 80MH/s.
Then I was introduced to the Mt. Gox exchange, where I found I could turn the simple coins I mined into cash! With the money I made, I bought a better graphics card in early June 2011.
Though I'm quite interested in the technology behind it, I suppose the prospect of making money is what drove me deeper and deeper into bitcoin. I imagine it sort of as the California '69 Gold Rush...a new area we were all just getting acquainted with that could make everyone money with the right hardware.
After the crash, I fell off the bitcoin map for a few months before I started mining again in December '11. And 'poof', here I am today!

Tell us the story about how you found out about bitcoins and what got you interested in it.
May 2010: I think it was through slashdot. I didn't read satoshis paper, merely installed the client and left it churn on my desktop not knowing where to get any bitcoins and frankly not caring much either, wondering why no bitcoins were being generated.
2 days later I need the laptop for something unrelated, see the client still at "BTC 0.00". Other things on my mind, I exit the client, thinking something like "well, this is obviously broken, there should be at least 0.01 BTC or something. Screw that, maybe I'll try again later, this laptop is kinda warm, let's turn this bitcoin client off for now". What a sad day!
Only in January 2011, when again through slashdot, I see "bitcoin" for the second time, only this time, I install no client, but read the paper instead. 15 minutes later I'm all energized, praising satoshis genius, babbling on to my perplexed girlfriend about distributed proof-of-work-based timekeeping, the blockchain and whatnot, trying to explain that this could shake the world for good! I mine my first bitcents using 2 crappy onboard nvidia cards, put old dollar bills I had left over from vacations into an evelope and send it to canada... 2 weeks later I got my 5970 miner all set up and all my friends think I've gone crazy for good this time.

Always been interested in computing, and found Bitcoins a very exciting concept. Mined a little bit, and purchased a jalapeno with my profits from the rally! Will enjoy seeing where this wild ride goes.
I have bought around 200 btc / 6$ each. Been making some investments since.

I came up with this really cool idea - it was to be the world's first decentralised currency, out of reach of governments. I decided to call it Bitcoin.

I first heard about bitcoins from a fellow computer programmer at work. In addition to sharing an interest for economic development, we are both a bit worried about the current state of civil liberties. After I decided that bitcoins could really help improve both of these, it was an easy decision to climb on-board. 
How much have you guys invested in btc?
In the region of 1000 pounds so far. That went mostly on the FPGA's.

I heard from a friend about btc 3 years ago, I laughed when it was 0.17 USD / BTC.... guess he's the one laughing now as he mined all the way till now lol.

I found out about it when looking for a way to have some extra income from ads that weren't an annoyance(As we all hate those ads) and fitted in with my little small unknown forum its theme and came across anonymousads and saw that they worked only with bitcoins so started to look into what bitcoin actually was as their way of showing ads was the way i wanted the ads on my forum to be and in the end i kinda got hooked on the whole idea of using bitcoins for things

One of the guys I worked with actually dropped over 2 grand in parts for bitcoining. ASRock Extreme 7 board and 4, 7970 cards. Over 2 Gigahashes. He's calculated that it'll take only 6-7ish months to pay off his computer at that rate, and from there it's pure profit. He pays flat rate for electricity where he lives, so he's good to go.
Basically after learning this, I started running a client on my little 6870 card, and am now in the market for a 6990 that will serve for a little extra cash when I go off to college. Can't go wrong with Dual GPU =)
