In turkey every student knows about bitcoin, I think it has a big potential in blockchain. When the goverment would help entrepreneurs with blockchain tech and regulations it could be a silicon valley like berlin for blockchain but it has time.
I personally learned it from my teachers in school.

DearIt was when I was doing the research for my domain name reselling business. I was looking for new trends to expand my inventory. I came across the article regarding Bitcoin. As I started doing more research about the Bitcoin and crypto world, the innovation of this technology and the scope of it influenced me to stay tuned to it. However, I still believe that there is a lot to explore thus I keep reading about it as much as I can to enhance my knowledge about this sphere.

I've been into crypto for years. I've always been sort of a geek about technology and when I heard about it, I looked into it. My brother was a phreaker back in the 80s and was into hacking and anything dealing with technology. He learned about it early and started mining right at the beginning, but at the time I wasn't paying much attention to what he was doing. I wish I had, he made out great.

Quick story short
I knew from the early 2012 but was not that interested and din't had money to invest.

I started trading in the beginning of 2017. I was in college, didn't had money to invest so I was mining with my laptop Cheesy

I was mining Bytecoin because it was damn so easy to mine. I was mining for like 1 month with my laptop on CPU and I made couple of trades when it was low price.
I mined like a dollar and a half, and after couple of months I have invested that dollar in MinexCoin ICO. Till today i have no idea how i managed to transfer a dollar and a half to their ICO, but the price of BTC was 1500$ or less if I can remember.

After 4 months of waiting and keeping my dollar safe I got 1.40 MinexCoin from the investment int heir ICO and also bounty.
I was holding that coin couple of days, even when he reached 70$ pump didnt sell it.
I parked them for 2 wees got 2 minex and I started traiding with like 25$

Until now I won't reveal how much I have but I am doing good
From 0$ to ....
My point is never give up Cheesy
just be patient and everything will come in good way
cheers Cheesy

the first time i heard about crypto (bitcoin) was several years ago,  becaus some of my friends "ordered" somethink in the darknet. I thought that bitcoin is only for criminals until last sommer. a frient showed me how much different cryptocurrenys are available and how much profit you can generate. so I started to get into that stuff by investing my first 100€.

Loving this thread Smiley Already posted but here's another story from my experience....

Worked in a games company, in customer service. Not one of the small ones. a BIG one. This is late 2012, and into 2013.

Our work machines were srs bznz....dual monitor, dual 7950 bunnies.

I had applied for a job in sys-admin (because fuck talking to customers), and made it my business to buy the IT room beers to support my application.

So ... let's call him "Bob"... one night in a frenzy of drunken honesty, shared that he had set up a network-wide (800 machines while they were idle) mining op to grab LTC and send them to his wallet. At the time (Xmas 2012), he had 48000 LTC in his wallet. One of his key requirements to hire me (who was buying his beer!) was that I keep it under wraps, with a share (I think he was offering 4% of all output to my LTC address).

Frankly, I just wanted the job, and couldn't have given less of a fuck about LTC, so I nodded and smiled. They were worth about 7c at the time, I think, so it wasn't mickey mouse money, but still....4% of that was still pfft.

I said "Sure Smiley", and then life cirumstances changed. Before the hiring was closed, I had a RL thing happen which meant I needed to move home, and that was the last I saw of Bob. I was a cert to get the job, but hey what the hell.

Bob later got fired for a number of shady practices, not least of which was selling "faulty" GPUs to employees in the smoking area outside the building and pocketing the cash. But you know, fired and all, I reckon he's not giving much a fuck right now...

I, like many others, laughed at first when I was offered to invest in bitcoin. We are children of 90th especially in Ukraine, we perceive this as another MMM. For the first time I heard about bitcoin in March 2017 and only after half a year began to delve into.

I heard about bitcoin first in 2013 from a friends friend who had a few bitcoins. he told that somebody send it to him in 2011 or 2012? for free because he wants to try this thing out. he got it from a forum maybe from a member bitkointalk. At this time I don't really understand what he was talking about. And I thought Internetmoney it couldn't work because you can copy everything an a computer so also Bitcoins. I wish I had an interest at that time to understand Blockchain.

The second time I heard from it was mid 2017 from other friends who have already been invested in it.

I guess that was one of the your biggest regrets, ignoring bitcoin but I just like what you have said, If I were that same situation like you I will ignored it also without even realizing that bitcoin will be valuable just like today.
One of my friends just tell me about bitcoin, and then I started with my own research about it.

Hi all

I first discovered Bitcoin about 5 years ago. I presumed at first it was a fly by night scam of some sort. I regret like others here that i failed to invest early. Sad I did research later though and was a miner when it was still viable. Made a little bit of coin on the side so cant complain.

I heard about Bitcoin years ago while watching Gold/Silver videos on YT. I disregarded BTC as some type of fly by night internet money.

Then my brother mentioned that Japan was recognizing BTC as a currency last summer while I was on vacation mountain biking in Utah.  When I got back home, I opened an account and started purchasing BTC, ETH and LTC.  Went onto the alt cryptos since then.

This sector has a ways to run IMO.

But i am worrying about my decisions which was taken in 2012.

As for me, the first time i heard it was on my friend that there were so many people using bitcoins to trade for computer parts. After that im aware of crypto, but not on earning it until my older brother told me that there was a legit process that can be a great help to earn it without spending money. And now i'm one of those trying to convince other people to use and be more aware about cryptocurrencies.

Awesome thread!

So for me, I first got introduced by my little girl's godfather, in Christmas 2012. Bitcoin had hit something like $12, and he'd mined a shitload when it was CPU and GPU mineable. He offered to sell me 40 BTC for $100 - "mates rates".

I declined.

Yes, I know. What a decision. But he's not the most communicative guy in the world, and what he positioned to me was basically "internet zenny-coins, someone might someday sell you a coffee for a thousand of them". This is not how he phrased it, but that's how I heard it.

He spoke to me again about it in Feb 2013, when I got briefly obsessed, because it had risen to like $110-ish per BTC, again offering to share his mined coins at a really reduced price. He's a nice guy Smiley I didn't have much Fiat at the time, so I declined. He sent me 0.3 BTC as an encouragement payment - I had it stored on Cryptsy (ultimately - I transferred it around a bit) :/

Then in May 2013, my little girl, who was 3 at the time, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), which as you can imagine somewhat rearranged my priorities. I didn't even look at Crypto again until this year, when she was a year clear (happy ending!!!! Smiley ).

Now, here I am, wondering if I can get back in. I currently like Ripple, and the idea of punting on penny shares (new altcoins). Let's see how it goes!

And that is me Smiley
