~ is a shortcut for your home directory or home directory of your currently logged in session.

if you open a terminal and type > cd ~

you will end up in your home directory.

On Linux, it should be at ~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat.

However, this is a hidden folder. You can tell by the period at the beginning of the folder name. Ubuntu hides these for you so that your folders aren't cluttered up with application data.

So, to access it you can just press ctrl-H, which will unhide all folders. Press ctrl-H again to hide them all.

For a more permanent solution, go into Preferences and go to the Views tab. Then check "Show hidden and backup files". I wouldn't recommend that though, since you might accidentally mess with vital folders that were meant to be hidden if you leave all your hidden folders unhidden.

Hope I helped. Smiley

How do I find ~/.bitcoin?

Is this the folder I downloaded?

go to http://www.bitcoin.org/ and download the client. run the client to see your wallet (your wallet adress will be listed/changeable from the client). as far as the location of the .dat file, well thats been said already...on mine i had to "show hidden folders" for the "app data" folder to show...so keep that in mind if you dont see it in your "user" folder

Right so how do I find app data on Ubuntu?

Is there any comprehensive bitcoins other that the wiki on bitcoin.org? I find it hard to understand. Like I cnat find anywhere that explains mining.
