When a newbie talks about an account, he often means Blockchain.com's wallet.

Might be possible, but we don't know for sure.

When a newbie talks about an account, they often refer to a wallet.
When a newbie talks about a public key, they often refer to an address.

Newbies often use the wrong terms. Most probably they simply don't know better and heard a word and thought this is describing exactly what they mean.
Or, others think that they have an account 'with the blockchain' when installing a wallet.

OP still didn't answer which wallet he is using. I guess the problem is solved ? He didn't reply after the OP within the last 4 days.

I set up an account. I have my seed but can't remembers my password. I can't get to the screen to enter the seed to change my password.
When a newbie talks about an account, he often means Blockchain.com's wallet. Besides, this wallet has problems with accounts that have not been used for a while.

So I think he entered the password and did not access to his wallet. Some countries have problems with Blockchain.info synchronization. So it is better to move to Electrum.

Are you sure about changing wallet file name with a new one? Because if I try to write another name, it tells file not found.
Yes, you can do that. Itested it and it works.

Here is the first screen that I get with my encrypted wallet:

if you change the wallet name and choose a new name:

it says:
Quote
This file does not exist.
Press 'Next' to create this wallet, or choose another file.

If you click next, you will be able to restore your wallet from seed:

@OP, are you using Electrum? if yes, then follow the above steps. If not, please tell us what wallet you are using.

That will happen if you keep the directory path or typed the new name in the dialogue box (of your OS) after you've clicked "choose",
you need to delete all that's written after the "wallet:", type the new wallet's name and click next.

I'll update this with images to be clear:

Edit: Thanks @nc50lc for clearing up. Although I mainly use Electrum, that behavior tricked me big time.

Something that nobody has told: for Electrum, if you don't know the password, the UI doesn't let you do much else than simply close.
If you are in this situation with Electrum and don't know the password, but clearly know the seed, find the data folder of Electrum (it's called electrum_data) and (when Electrum is not running) rename it to electrum_data_old. Then start Electrum again and tell "I already have a seed" in the 3rd window.

That's not true. You can simply change the wallet filename in that opening screen and it'll let you create a new wallet. That can be a restored wallet or one with a brand new seed. It basically takes you through the whole wallet creation process all over again.

Electrum supports unlimited wallets each in their own file.

I am so lost very much in need of help.
Us too.
You added too little info but there are too many clients out there.
I'll just try to deduct your possible wallet from the commonly used ones followed by the instructions/link.

  • Bitcoin Core/Qt -> There's no Mnemonic Phrase available as a backup (definitely not this)
  • Electrum -> Have an exclusive SEED format that can't be used to other wallets. (File->New/Restore->Enter File name->Next->Standard Wallet->I already have a SEED)
  • Blockchain.com online wallet -> New version uses BIP39 / (.info) Old version uses SEED-look-a-like format: (https://login.blockchain.com/#/recover)
  • Hardware wallets -> most models must re-enter the same Passphrase to be able to restore the correct addresses (Usually, there's a "restore" button somewhere in the setting)

You just need to maximize your understandings. You are not lost, it's just "there".

Find options, something like import seed, etc. No need for passwords for recovery or importing.

And much better if you will tell us what wallet you are using for much detailed and accurate instruction.

If you have a seed go to iancoleman.io , load up the page, turn off you wifi, enter seed, you will at bottom see list of pub addresses with keys.

If the wallet he used generates a seed phrase why would he need to use iancoleman's tool?

Almost all wallets that generate a seed phrase should have an import option or reset option where you can put your seed phrase to remove your password.
So you don't need to use iancoleman tool just to reset the wallet, seed phrase is enough backup to reset or import the wallet to the same wallet or to another wallet.

Which wallet are you referring to? Electrum? If yes, once you open the wallet, this window should show, change the name of the wallet to something else, click 'next' and follow this guide.
