I'm still a little confused about your setup...
I had use the ledger nano to sync with the core using the experimental feature before, but to download over that 356gb for the bitcoin core to sync again on my new laptop is a hassle.
So, you were using the "experimental feature" in Ledger Live that syncs all the data through your local Bitcoin Core? If so, then any wallet.dat you have from your Bitcoin Core is probably empty/useless.

That feature is essentially a "privacy" feature... it means Ledger Live sends/receives it's data from your local node, rather than querying Ledger servers. It does not interact with the wallet.dat in any way.

Or are you referring to using the HWI module to use the Ledger with Bitcoin Core? Huh

You just need rename new wallet.dat and copy your wallet.dat to there.

enter:  dumpprivkey

If the wallet is password protected you must run the walletpassphrase command to temporarily unlock the wallet for a given number of seconds.

But dumpprivkey will not work on watch-only wallets since there are no private keys in the first place.

From the app navigate to:
Help -> Debug window -> console
-snip-
That's (from?) an outdated tutorial. The 'debug window' menu under 'help' has been unavailable since October 2018: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/14573
In the later versions, the (debug) node window can be launched in "Window->Console"  Wink

how can i open a wallet.dat file on bitcoin core without syncing of blocks?
You can open the wallet without any need to syncing. Just download the latest version of bitcoin core if you don't have it.
If your wallet is not synced, since bitcoin core doesn't have the blockchain, you won't be able to see your balance.

If you have your wallet file and the passphrase (if it's encrypted), you can export the private key of your bitcoin address and import it into a SPV wallet like electrum.
In electrum, you don't need to download the blockchain.

Do you know any where that do btc loans? I need funds urgently to pay bills for my house i live at. Due to pandemic and this sh** that occurred, i am very much out of options. Sad
The lending board as pooya87 suggested would also be the first place I would look.

Regarding platforms outside of the forum, I wouldn't be able to help you much with that. I have only heard about Coinlend. You would have to check their reputation and rates yourself. I have never looked into it personally. It looks like a mobile bot that works for Bitfinex, Poloniex, and a few other sites.

When i was using the Finder Outer app it was suggesting words that is possible, but i seem to stuck on what to do now after reading the advice's.
If you got a result in this app that WAS your correct mnemonic because the only option in there is to check each permutation against your given key and ONLY return a result when it finds the correct combination of words. There isn't anything left to do, just copy that result and put in a wallet like Electrum and recover your funds.

There is the Lending section on this forum but you should read the rules first, you can not ask for a loan without first providing a valid collateral.

You say you have a wallet.dat also? Does it have any funds in that wallet? Is it password protected?  If you know it you should load it in bitcoin core.
I can help you if need be.

i have 2 wallets though, but the one i wish to open is the 1 with the passphrase.
For absolute clarity, when you say passphrase, do you mean the 12 seed words (the recovery phrase) or was the seed extended with an additional word aka the passphrase?
Brute-forcing 5 missing words is already difficult enough, brute-forcing a passphrase on top of that adds another difficulty layer.

it is the 12 words not 24 words. i know it is very much difficult. i dont know what to do anymore. i am trying to brute--force it but not much luck so far. I didnt make a proper backup. dame, so more likely, all my coins is gone. Sad Sad

At any rate, I advise holding on to your remaining 7 words in case one day someone goes out and makes a cloud BTC recovery service that distributes over a large quantity of GPUs. Who knows, such a service (which currently does not exist yet) may be able to find your missing 5 words.

This is what I generally suggest to people who have lost too many words to do a solo brute-force search, or scrambled some of their seed phrase words, and so on.

Since you still have the ledger
I way I read it, the Ledger was stolen with the PC:
my ledger nano, but it was attached to the pc

The words i do have is the beginning in the order that i have it written down.
The remaining words were kept on my ledger nano
So you never made a proper backup of the 24 (not 12!) seed words?

So your wallet was generated with ledger nano using Bitcoin core?

Like the above said it takes so much time before you can get the correct missing 5 words it takes years so which one is a hassle? is to fully sync the Bitcoin core in your laptop or to brute-force the seed phrase to recover the 5 missing words?

Since you still have the ledger you can still have a chance to get access to your old wallet but your option is to install the Bitcoin core to your new laptop and wait for a couple of days to be fully synced. The syncing speed depends on the laptop specs but you can improve the syncing process by switching to SSD and increase the ram.

I lost my computer in a house break-in some weeks ago, and searched high and low for my devices through gps tracking, but found no luck.....Sad Sad Someone told me about this forum, and that i can find answer here. How do i recover my bitcoins.

The wallet i used was bitcoin core but electrum reads my info.

I can view the wallet from the info i have so far, but eveything is watching only. Not spendable.  Need the seedphrase

I only have the wallet, dat and btc address with valid amounts, Also have 7 words form the recovery, missing the other 5 words. The remaining words were kept on my ledger nano, but it was attached to the pc the time i wasnt at home. Any advice will be nice,

I would write down those 7 words you are aware of and then  try to recollect the missing 5 words by looking on the  BIP39 word list. If you’ve ever seen them they’re still in your memory. The only question is how to get them out. Your brain can figure out itself what to do with that 2048 words and reveal missing part of your SEED  in your sleep eventually. The alternative way to find them in your brain is  ask professional hypnotist for assistance.

i tried that as well as getting stoned, an remembered seeing the rest of the words, but unable to visualize it. I wouldnt be studying the coins much if my laptop was taken. Sad

i do not have much skills in the crypto world. I did however started accumulating btc from my work that started in 2012. i mainly did used the coins to purchase digital and physical goods from the darknet, buying equipment for work so i can meet clientele demands.

I dont have a craiglist in my area, as to find out who took my devices at home.

I can go on the blockchain explorer and see the coins, but cant access it.

Your story is slightly confusing, but I'll try: what's the story behind having the 7 seed words? How did you get to that point? And do you know if the words you have are at the start/middle/end, and even in the correct order?
Ledger by default creates 24 words, so if it's 12, that means you've imported the seed from somewhere else (which makes the hardware wallet less secure).

Is something like Craigslist popular in your area? Finding the thief is probably easier (although still unlikely) than restoring the missing seed words.

I actually didn't know that you can connect Ledger with Bitcoin Core the same way you can do with Electrum Huh I can't remember ever reading a thread about it. I know that Ledger introduced an experimental feature a few months ago that allowed users to connect their full node to Ledger Live, but that's it. That's why I failed to see the connection between his Bitcoin Core wallet.dat and a Ledger seed missing some words.
Yeah. Just introduce a bridge between the device and Core. An example would be HWI: https://github.com/bitcoin-core/HWI.

The feature introduced by Ledger doesn't allow you to use Bitcoin Core to sign transactions, etc. Only allows you to fetch transactions using that.

Since OP mentioned Ledger, I assumed that they used Bitcoin Core as an interface for the Ledger and hence why the seed phrase was mentioned.

So you used Bitcoin Core in the past and you have the correct wallet.dat? Is the file corrupted or password-protected that prevents you to load the wallet in Bitcoin Core? Why don't you download Bitcoin Core, open your wallet, and let the software sync? You can try exporting all your private keys by entering 'dumpwallet' (unless the command changed). After that, import those keys in Electrum if you don't feel like downloading the whole blockchain from scratch. Would that not work?

Any idea on how i can recover the rest of words?
You are missing too many words, with 5 out of 12 you have to check 36,028,797,018,963,968 permutation with roughly 6% of it being valid mnemonics. We are talking about a lot of operations, even with btcrecover and using multiple GPUs it should still take an impossibly long time to recover.

The record time I've seen is from this link that claims to have checked 1 trillion in 30 hours (missing 4) also its derivation path is a moderately easy one. That means it would take you 1,080,863 hours with the same exact setup which is 123 years.

i want to recover the coins from the address. is that possible? i have only seven words though. I bought another laptop the other day, An Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 GX550LXS. had also recently finished upgrading my linux o.s as well.
You need all 12 words. You cannot recover just by using the addresses.
Any idea on how i can recover the rest of words?

I tried FinderOuter and btcrecover, but i clearly is not to familiar with the console commands for extracting
If you've lost it, then bruteforcing is the only way albeit with very low probability. BTCrecover has a quick start guide on GitHub..

I only have the wallet, dat and btc address with valid amounts, Also have 7 words form the recovery, missing the other 5 words. The remaining words were kept on my ledger nano,
The wallet.dat is your bitcoin core wallet file.
The words you have are a part of the seed phrase on your ledger.
As bitcoin core doesn't support seed phrase, now you are talking about two separately different wallets.
Which one do you want to recover?

If you want to recover your ledger wallet, as stated by ranochigo above, you need the other 5 words too.
If you want to recover your bitcoin core wallet, you need the wallet.dat file and your passphrase (if the wallet is encrypted).

Thanks much for the advise so far. Appreciated!

Which one do you want to recover?

I think what he wants is to recover the wallet with balances which is the Bitcoin core wallet.dat.

Unless if he wants to recover the Ledger but 5 missing words are not easy to recover it takes so much time before you can recover your old wallet from the ledger nano.

However, if the ledger nano doesn't have balance he just wants to reuse the wallet to transfer the recovered balance from the bitcoin core wallet then he can hard reset the ledger nano and recreate a new wallet.

You'll need the seed phrase to be able to spend your Bitcoin. Unfortunately, since you're missing 5 of the words, it'll be quite impossible to be able to crack it.

If you want, you can give it a try with BTCrecover: https://github.com/3rdIteration/btcrecover.
