Forum is being archived non-stop by ninjastic website and many pages can be found on wayback machine, so you don't need to have PDF version for everything.

It's valid option, but there's nothing wrong by having PDF version which could be accessed offline which contain updated thread/post (especially if the thread is updated regularly). Or you could print ninjastic website to PDF instead if you prefer cleaner result (no signature, ads or user info).

Few years ago I had to archive a lot of pages and I found a tool and browser extension that can create PDF from any web page, and you can edit and remove any junk and ads in the process:

You will not find an official way that explains how to download bitcointalk pages as PDF and therefore you must search either:

 - write a userscript code that can make it is easy.
 - Many browsers provide such feature.
 - Download any browser extension to help you to cover it to PDF.

Overall, google any SMF PDF tool and it will work with the forum, you will find many options.

Download Adobe Acrobat reader desktop version, which is free for sure and then visit this URL - https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/converting-web-pages-pdf.html

It is very simple to convert an entire webpage into a PDF using the acrobat reader. Acrobat also installs an Adobe PDF toolbar on your browser and next time onwards you just need to use the toolbar to convert a web page to PDF. It only supports IE, Chrome and Firefox.

I want to backup an entire thread on this board as a PDF for archival purposes.

Basically you don't need to, since it's already archived.
Just go to https://ninjastic.space/topic/ (for example https://ninjastic.space/topic/5365077 ) and it's all there; ...just it contains only the original posts, not the later modifications.

You can simply use the print page option of your browser on every page of the thread. Might not be the best looking, but it does the job if your main goal is the content.

Can take really long if it's a larger thread with let's say 50 pages.

OP, if you need to do this regularly, you can ask a developer to make you a program to do this automatically. If automated browsers like puppeteer have this "save as PDF" feature, it can be very easy to develop a program that will quickly save any thread in one click.

Is there a way to do that without having admin privileges?
Before doing the instructions above, consider this first:

You have an option to display the page in print-friendly "text-only" format by clicking the small "print" button at the right-hand side near the top of the page.
That will also display all the pages of the thread making the printing process easy and fast.

I'm with @mk4, just wanted to add that that it doesn't have to be an "ugly" page... You can just select the option "Background graphics" if you want a "nice looking" pdf print Smiley
At least, it's there on my work pc (windows 10, chrome)

You can use the common sites used to archive certain webpages like. https://archive.is/
It does not save it as a PDF though, but you can use a third-party Chrome extension to screenshot that archived webpage and save it as a PDF.
One that I usually use is GoFullPage.
