Can't see anything to trigger a new bubble, so any guess would be based on nothing.

true, bubble will happen 3 months after something big will happen. there was nothing such recently.

Pretty difficult to tell! If we see a bubble this year... It could go either way, it could be a small one ($1500-$2000) or we could see a medium sized one ($3000-$6000). But anything above $6000 is highly unlikely if you ask me! But maybe we need the bubbles and the media frenzy that's accompanying it!

I can't vote in your poll...

The next bubble will start between $30-$300..

For now, we go down, down, down. There are too many greedy people expecting too much.

Smart money won't buy that at these levels.

We need to reach the capitulation phase before a new big bubble.

we can make a funny calculation: if in 5 years btc rised from 1 to 1K, it's mean an average of 200 per years, then we can expect 1200 dollar at january of 2015, or probably much higher but with a dump in april 2015 that will reduce it to 1200 dollar, and so on...

4k to 5k but its just a guess, no body knows.

Maybe Satoshi knows! He's such a genius and it wouldn't surprise me if he actually has a model that accurately described every part of Bitcoins development, including the price. He could make a fortune with that!

It won't go that high. We still need more adoption in order to justify a higher price! I think we might see USD $2000 if the bubble starts this year, or maybe USD $3000 if we wait for some time and give Bitcoin more time to gain traction!

sideways not up or down for awhile. thats the bubble.

Haha, you're not around for a very long, time are you? This sideways movement is completely normal for Bitcoin! It's just because it's summer now and the previous bubble has popped. We're experiencing a normal phase of stability! We'll go up eventually! Smiley

We are waiting already for a really long time for the next bubble. I think it will be a crazy one with spikes up to 12k $ and then going back to ~7k $ until the next world economy crisies arrives and pushes us to higher limits.

Somewhere in 2018-2020. I don't think we'll go past 700 this year again.

Still 4 more months in 2014. And the ETF will start trading in Nov/Dec.

I am still waiting for the next bubble, shouldn't it be September?

Yeah, I guess it's scheduled for then. I think the Wallstreet people are still discussion about when the bubble should start. Maybe they even prepare some secret party that concides with the start of the bubble. We'd have to see if anyone knows when that's scheduled so we can act accordingly!
Bubbles are not "scheduled" as if this was the case everyone would buy prior to the time the bubble is to start and sell prior to when it reaches it's peak. This would result in the bubble "starting" prior to when it is "scheduled" to start. I think the fact that we have not seen a bubble this year is a sign that bitcoin is starting to stabilize.

The previous rally were mostly triggered by mining technology switch, but now the mining tech won't change too much in the coming years, the price will stabilize. So maybe not a big dramatic rally but a long and steady rise

I would think that it was in the opposite way, mining switch was triggered by the rise on the price not otherwise. Simply people saw profit on investing in new mining hardware seeing the price.

When people first pre-ordered ASIC mining rigs, no one knew if they would succeed, but bitcoin price were very low by then and no one knew if its price will rise. After ASIC arrived, many true believers could not get coin by mining using GPU farm, this forced them to buy coins on open market and dramatically lifted the price (They continuously accumulate bitcoins, for them the bitcoin is priceless, they will use the lowest possible cost to get coins no matter what)

Now all these investors have changed to ASIC farms, if difficulty increase slows down, there will not be so much buying support from these true believers since they have already a steady inflow of bitcoins from their ASIC farms. Rest of the capitals are mostly from speculators, if price movement calms down, those money will retreat and find other speculation targets

You can imagine, if a quantum miner which is 100 times more efficient than ASIC miners comes out, same thing will happen, many miners will lose their market share and their only way to get bitcoin is to buy it from exchanges, that will drive the price up another 100 times

But today's quantum computer costs too much energy, they are essentially useless even if they managed to get the calculation right

According to solid TA from various experts, like myself, the next bubble will be at least 8000$ and could possibly top at 20000$. What do you expect? Please vote!

Ummm I guess we should see at least $7500. This current bubble really seems to take its time, and therefore it has a lot of momentum built up. A 12.6x increase due to a bubble? Why not? This isn't unprecedented in Bitcoin land!

Maybe we started to "bubble" again after the $340ish low, and then the top was at $685. And now back to bear market? Grin Bit of a stretch in definition, but hey, we doubled!

A bubble should only be considered a bubble when it is in uncharted price territory. Bouncing around previous price territory is not a bubble.

This is just a stagnation period after the "real" bubble we had in late 2013.
You can recognize a bubble from its exponential rise where most people panic buy all what they can afford in a short period of time.

The longer we remain at these levels, the higher the next bubble will go.

There was a (edit: really smart) guy named chodpaba that posted a bunch of analysis in Speculation forum during August-September 2013 about this

He eventually deleted all of his posts. But what remains is that the slower we climb the more violent the next bubble will be. So I will be fully prepared for breaching 10k

If the past is any indicator, next rally will probably go up to 4k+.

If China bubble alone can push the price to over 1100. Imagine when China open up and then Russia and the rest of the world.

Bitcoin can't get past the price of a troy ounce of gold without willy or some other fuckery.

This is a psychological barrier. A BTC van easily surpass a troy ounce of gold if we break this psychological barrier by calling it mBTC. This doesn't do anything for bitcoin itself but it will brainfuck everyone into believing they have more Smiley

Using terms like mBTC just puts newbies off adopting bitcoin. When people first start learning about it they need everything as simple as possible, otherwise most of them just give up trying to understand. It's hard enough for a newbie to find out how to actually buy a bitcoin without changing it's name to a mBTC.

To be honest to all of you about this, I think that next bubble won't make it over 3k $. Those predictions of 8k are a little bit unrealistic.

Depends on the timeframe and definition of bubble aswell.
Next bubble might be 2016 when bitcoin halves.

I hope bitcoin will hit 100k someday so I can be filthy rich  Cool

I actually hope that the next block halving will take place in 2015! If the miners are fast enough and new hash rate gets deployed constantly, the re-adjustments will be well below the approximate 12 days on every adjustment!

3-5K. Your poll options are too high.

Fonzie used to be an uber-bear. He turned bullish at some point, and as it usually is with people who do a 180 degrees turn, he became an uber-bull. So his forecasts aren't $ 10 USD anymore, but rather $ 10k USD now... I guess it's more reasonable than $ 10 USD Cheesy

Simplistic statement:
Bears usually have no bitcoin and don't want people getting rich quick.
Bulls have bitcoin and want to get rich quick.

Maybe he finally bought in and wants to make money now Smiley

Ha, I absolutely subscribe to your statement! You're totally right. I though that myself for some time as well, especially in terms of ASICMiner shares. Many people who shun Bitcoin just don't want it to succeed because they'd be left out. And since they don't want to take a risk they hope no one else profits, as well. Very simple, yet spot on explanation!

Why does everyone around here talk about bubbles as if they are a good thing? You know all bubbles burst because they are unsustainable, right? I sincerly hope there is no bubble, ever. I do expect the value of Bitcoins to rise though.

BTC price is like a bubble. It dropped from ~$1000 to ~$400 like bubble bursts. As the above post, it is speculation, we have to dream how much the bubble goes whether the bubble bursts or not. Roll Eyes

It's because this is the speculation sub-forum so many people here want wildly fluctuating prices to create day-trading opportunities.

Oh yes, of course that does make a sort of sense. I was thinking ppl just wanted to see the price going up and hadn't quite grasped that it is perfectly possible to have very dramatic price rises without it being a bubble, but if its because people want to try to time the market on massive bubble swings then good luck to them - they'll need it.

Looking at the one year chart is REALLY nice though. There is the spike, the drop, then a solid recovery.

Compare it to the April 2013 bubble, which is a tiny footnote to the 2013/2014 bubble. Imagine if that will be a footnote to the next bubble? Grin

It's fun to think about. Cool

But you are around since 2011! You've seen quite some bubbles in your Bitcoin time! The other bubbles weren't expected, either. And people didn't think the price could go up by that much ever again. Yet it did!
I dunno. There was far more mania then, I'm sure. So much good news for ages now, but nothing seems to effect the price. I think now we have to wait for utility to develop, and for people to be buying it for its usefulness. Which will happen! But perhaps at a more steady pace...

Or maybe we just need to hold this price a few more months so people can get comfortable that Bitcoin really isn't going anywhere and then the bubble will start. I look forward to seeing if the Winklevoss thing has an effect too.

Yeah, exactly. I'm having a hard time thinking another bubble will happen. Maybe we'll just see slow cautious growth instead? Perhaps with many tiny bubble-lets as people get scared of even a small rise.

Hope I'm wrong, bubbles are certainly fun Cheesy

But you are around since 2011! You've seen quite some bubbles in your Bitcoin time! The other bubbles weren't expected, either. And people didn't think the price could go up by that much ever again. Yet it did!

You are right. He has seen bubbles in his Bitcoin time! The OP is thinking of a high price. Dreaming is good but it is much higher. I don't think the price will hit $1000 as the price isn't very stable and not increasing much. I am dreaming about $1000, start from small and end in high!
Kindly,
      MZ

A very good sentiment! Don't expect prices that are too high and don't get too greedy! But I also believe that we may see bubbles of a comparable size still, why shouldn't the next bubble be at least somewhat as big as the ones before?

I think it could honestly go as high as $900, crashing down shortly thereafter to around $650 - $700.

How on earth would that be a bubble? That would be nothing! It wouldn't even reach the previous All Time High! A bubble has to at least surpass that mark and go for at least twice the previous ATH, I'd say.

It cannot keep going up at the same multiple over and over.  With the stock market, sure maybe it can go up a lot longer because there are things called "earnings" behind a stock's increase.   However with BTC there is no "intrinsic" value to it so it's only to go up as far as people have an interest in it.

Yes yes yes! Exactly!!! But why stop there? We could go even higher and higher! Maybe if we wait for still some time, we might see true mega-bubble, carrying us directly to $25k! Cheesy

Way up! Up to Mars. Is there Life on mars? But I think $5k minimum! We'll see $10k pretty soon, I guess. Man, this will be exciting for all of us! I don't think the next bubble is going to be a small one. We've had quite some time to prepare for it.

Nah, if a bubble manifests itself before the end of Q1 2015, we'll see prices of $3000-$5000, but definitely not more. We've experienced a pretty painful recovery from last November's bubble, so we either need some more runway to get the rocket starting, or we will see a smaller bubble. But I may be wrong, of course Smiley

The problem is, went is the next bubble? I have been waiting since few months back...

I have talked with several experts about this, and it looks like we´re going to 800-900$ in the next 2-3 weeks, after that we will consolidate for around 2 weeks there, after that the parabolic rise will start!

I think all of these options are far to high to be honest.

Been watching BTC for some time now and I do not believe will will hit any of those numbers in the next rally.
