If you don't opt in to limited retention, then your full IP is logged for 6 months, partial IP for 2 years, and geolocation for 6 years.

In terms of the conversation regarding trust, I reject the notion that that you need to share personal details with someone in order for them to trust you, or vice versa. There are a number of users on this forum I would happily trade with without escrow despite knowing literally nothing about them personally, and I know there are many who would do the same for me, again despite me revealing next to no personal information. In none of the trades I have done on the forum has any personal information entered in to it, I would not trade with someone who demanded as such.

oh and although you THINK you have no postal address to push a court claim against you. they can still file a claim
if they can find a detail about you like your RV/motor home/van number-plate. they can find the registered address.
to have a RV/motorhome you must also have a driving licence. it is possible to find the address registered to your licence. also the motorhome vehicle insurance needs a address..

if you sorn you motohome and cancelled/expired your driving licence. then a claimant can call the police who will sort you out. no licence no insurance no mot. vehicle not registered...
say goodbye to your motorhome expect big fine and some jail time

oh and then while in jail. the claimant can file a claim against you using your prison address

I'd rather be known as a trusted person/trader, so I don't try to hide my identity. Although I have become a digital nomad, it wouldn't be too difficult to find me if somebody really wanted to. In fact I would be prepared to attend a meeting if it was to our mutual benefit. I wouldn't be wearing a face mask though.

You can use VPN or TOR or if there is any more advanced way to secure your privacy because there is no such restrictions on bitcointalk but if you are trying to register using TOR browser then you will end up getting evil fee because previously accounts registered from the same IP got banned or involved scam accusation will increase the evil score.

But the forum is not taking the records of your IP address as far as I know, only the temporary logs are available.

each person has their own views about privacy, I personally am not that afraid/paranoid about this forum...
many people are afraid that their identity will be exposed for security reasons, but I personally am not that worried about my identity, as long as I don't commit a crime then I will be safe.

so its not like im concerned of door knocks from authorities due to what i say on here

yes the admin can check IP stuff. but this forum does not publicise it.
however for those that trade on here. they should be transparent and honest about who they are. otherwise you might aswell just hand your money to a random homeless guy you spot on the street and never see them again

im not into the 'if you got nothing to hide. why hide it' that politicians spout out all the time. because they pretend not to have anything to hide but last time anyone requested a politician should leave his bedroom curtains and blinds open, the politician declined.

all im saying is. if your trading with someone. let them know you honestly.
if your talking to someone. tell them only what you want them to know.

its not about going full anal to hide.. its just not needing to reveal whole life story just to talk

Although, I think that all or most of us do not say our name and exactly where we live. I think many of us get into this forum from a PC either at home or at the office, where we can register our IP and know exactly where we live.

But maybe there are people who want more privacy, use VPN and / or TOR, etc.
