The chain split is going to happen most likely since the Segwit2x support want an increase in the block size. Their goal cannot be accomplished without forking the coin.

[...]

In my book hardforking Bitcoin is a valid way of "letting the best coin win". Camouflaging SegWit2x nodes to prevent SegWit1x nodes from disconnecting and refusing to implement a 2-way replay protection however, is not. That's just a reckless way of forcing a coup.

Their goal of increasing block size can not be accomplished without a hardfork, that's true. It could be, however, accomplished without the questionable design choices mentioned above.

The devil is in the detail.
The chain split is going to happen most likely since the Segwit2x support want an increase in the block size. Their goal cannot be accomplished without forking the coin. This would obviously create a separate chain and the chain with majority of supporters will then have an edge.
It also depends on the price of B2X(I suppose that's what they will be calling it after the fork) as people will dump the coins to get back on the chain with more value. I personally like Bitcoin they way it is but wouldn't mind an upgrade if it increases the efficiency and stability of the coin.

Segwit2x is not about blocksize, its about control of development and if that's not possible to attain, it's about damaging Bitcoin as much as possible to help the 2xer's other shitcoins. I mean seriously, who or what stands to benefit from a contentious hard fork with Bitcoin? People need to do some critical thinking...

Most probably current bitcoin will be the real bitcoin. Remember what people were saying before August 1 (Bitcoin Cash fork) That not happened. Now the situation is the same. But to be safe better to hold coins in both chains.
You don't even know or understand what you are saying, period.

I wasn't really following the news but didn't support for Segwitx2 dropped to only around 60% recently? Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

The devil is in the detail.

What are you referring to? SegWit more than doubled Bitcoin's transaction capacity, the equivalent of a 2mb blocksize increase.

Apart from that what's stopping you from simply using Bitcoin Cash instead? It's fairly well supported and if you already owned Bitcoin before the fork you didn't even need to put money into an alt to make the switch.

franky1 is a delusional conspiracy theorist that sees the blockstream boogieman everywhere. Some people don't want to see others succeed and become angry/jealous when they do. He's just another Core hater. franky1 probably sold all his Bitcoin during the bottom of 2015 and now deeply regrets it or he fucked up some other way and has no stake anymore. He probably can't bare to see anyone else succeed with Bitcoin so he comes to Bitcointalk to spread FUD and conspiracy theories.

Tell me who is unhappy with the price of Bitcoin at $6500? I'll tell you who, franky1

The community will decide by either holding SegWit or SegWit2x. Simple as that. Without Core denying SegWit2x this choice wouldn't even exist.

seems people need to research the properties of bitcoins mechanism called consensus

core are AVOIDING consensus by throwing a possible upgrade into the realms of an altcoin.
if core actually allowed the consensus mechanism to run its course, there would be a choice.. either the network upgrades to a more utility allowing network or stays as it is.

but instead core have just thrown out the dummy and decided against a network upgrade and instead just scammed the community with fake hope by bribing them to think that getting "free coins" is better then a better network

Consensus based on node count is prone to sybil attacks and miners should not be able to unanimously change protocol rules. Public discourse failed to reach an agreement on what makes a better network. So the way I see it all that's left is to put each fork to the test and let the free market decide.

Please let me know what I'm missing here. I would truly love to understand your side of the argument.

You mean between Bitcoin and corpcoin FIFY  Wink

bitcoin is the corp coin.. the x2 is part of the same cartel. giving the illusion of choice and the dramatic distractions of free coins and 2 years of debates, while ultimately still not allowing a proper network upgrade.

[...]

Attacking either side of the fork based on the people behind it instead of their individual merits and weak points is not going to lead anywhere.

and yes the bitcoin network has wasted 2 years and still not got the 2mb base blocksize that was promised

This lady is such a whiny little bitch. No one cares about your feelings. Such a snowflake.

your comment has nothing to do with bitcoin or the bait ans switch games the bscartel are playing. maybe its time you spent more time understanding bitcoin and the community and less time crying your sheep bleets of insults that just offer no value

have a good day though

..
anyway back to the topic at hand
yes x2 will be an alt like the other 500+ copies that occured over the last few years.
and yes the bitcoin network has wasted 2 years and still not got the 2mb base blocksize that was promised
and yes the bscartel want it that way while distracting people with crap social drama and bribing with free coins to get people to prefer altcoin creating rather than network upgrading

check out the puppet masters behind the devs (http://dcg.co/portfolio/), all puppets lead to the same puppetmasters.. and while you just troll your sheepish comments, the network still wont be upgraded.. all that happens is that another altcoin is created and the BScartel hope that those that hate the corporate control will f*ck off to the altcoin to give the corp more control..

what you need to realise is the jgarzic isnt opposing the bscartel, he is part of the cartel and part of the myth that its offering a bitcoin upgrade choice.
all they care about is baiting and switching to start getting bitcoin into the intellectual property control of the bscartels patents.

they have thier segwit patent implemented into bitcoin now, thanks to the bait of the first phase of setwitx2.. and now the second phase (just the x2 part) is approaching the bscartel are doing all they can to back out of upgrading the network.

...
now lets see all the sheep comments from people crying that they dont care about bitcoins utility/longevity/ethos/need as long as they make profit to return to fiat

probably fork will not happen

https://www.coindesk.com/understanding-segwit2x-bitcoins-next-fork-might-different/

I hope miners are inteligent enough and stop this forking every time someone don't agree with majority.

This BTC forking will kill all crypto world, because will be fork every month.

Another possible fork is coming up this november, how likely do you guys think would there be a chain-split? If you think it will, do you think the new coin will topple Bitcoins and it will be "The Bitcoin"?

I think if it happens, though, it would still take a while before the dust settles. So, it would take some time before we can all know which chain to follow.

I think the fork will happen.

However given the lack of replay-protection and shared PoW algorithm without any form of "emergency difficulty adjustment" on either side I also think that the battle of the trident fork will end rather swiftly. Sure, the minor chain is likely to survive even long term, but prolonged block times on whatever chain gains the least hashrate will make the weaker chain less attractive for investors and tip the balance ever further toward the stronger chain.

I personally doubt that SegWit2x will succeed in toppling BTC, but I'm not going to place bets on either side of the fork.

[...]

and then to make it even funnier the same devs that oppose it pretended to not have control of bitcoin by saying (pretending) they would allow "the community" to decide if the network upgrades (facepalm)

it will happen

core love their dictatorship position and will ban hammer anything not in their control, thus throwing anything not core into altcoin land
and if you even try to add a bip to core, it will get closed off within 24 hours

as you can see here
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/11128

sipa (of blockstream) closed the bip within 24 hours.. without even giving much chance of community involvement

and then to make it even funnier the same devs that oppose it pretended to not have control of bitcoin by saying (pretending) they would allow "the community" to decide if the network upgrades (facepalm)
