I have my merits for about 3 months i guess and the merits is still there untouched. I guess what members mentioned above is true, there is no "merit decays" feature in the system right now, even if we have that, we still dont know how long the time will take before it decays. So i believe it is safe for now if you have sMerits and really want to find a high quality posts to give sMerits, because we are not in hurry.

I've searched here in Bitcointalk before posting my question. I've found a similar thread but there were no certain time frame for how long I am able to send my sMerits. Please someone inform me. Thanks.

I just want to add feedback to you as all other feedback are positive to your case, time frame of decays smerit is a debatable for some forum members since currently no time limitation for smerit to decay. Some members expect for decaying smerit for certain periods to drive merit spending increased and some others are maintaining current unlimited time for smerit for decaying. I myself prefer to unlimited decay time for smerit to selectively reward a post for merit in high quality posting.

You will be able to send merit if you have sMerit.
In every pair of merit is equal to one sMerit.
Code:
1 MERIT = 0.5 sMERIT
2 MERIT = 1 sMERIT
You have 11 Merit if some of your post get at least 1 merit you will  have 1 sMerit. After having a pair of merit you will be able to send 1 sMerit.

In mathematical expression this the so called ODD & EVEN numbers where in ODD numbers are 1,3,5,7,9 and so on while in EVEN numbers are 2,4,6,8,10 and more pair numbers.
MERIT = sMERIT
1        —     0.5
2        —       1
3        —     1.5
4        —       2
5        —     2.5
For example I have 51 Merits and I only have 25.5 sMerit (if I didn't send for useful posts)
This how merit being calculated in my idea which is correct.
How long I can have sMerits?
It will take long until you stop earning merit from your post. In short you can't send merits if you don't have enough merit.

When you receive one merit - you receive 0.5 sMerit which does not show and is not spendable.

That explains it. Thank you very much. If I have some merits not, I would definitely send it to you.

Something similar happened the last time when I received 10 merits for one post. Merit system was totally new at that time. Well, maybe sMerits decays after 2-3 days or so.
I have a feeling that you're lying about sMerits since so many members explained very clearly that sMerits didn't decayed at the moment. You're always saying the same story again and again. Don't know what is your intentions and feeled like you just want to continue this thread without any valid reason. I think it is better, if you can locked this thread and read the thread very carefully what other members said repeatedly.

No no no, You didn't get my point. It's not like I'm not sending sMerits, I'm not being able to send merits.
Maybe you dont have any merits to send.

Quote
Let me tell you what happened here with the last merit I got. I am fairly regular in Bitcointalk. But for some reasons I didn't logged in for 2-3 days. When I got back, I had seen that I received a Merit but it shows I have zero sMerits.
When you receive one merit - you receive 0.5 sMerit which does not show and is not spendable. If someone gives you another exactly one merit, you will get another 0.5sMerit - which will add up to 1 sMerit - then it will show up and will be spendable.

Quote
I couldn't send that sMerit even if I wanted to.
You cannot send fractional merit.

Till date sMerit does not decay. Thats all I can say.

if you're not sending any sMerits to productive posts, I had to believed that you have no idea about why the merit system was implemented and it's utmost goal.

But unfortunately, I don't have any sMerit to send. The last merit I had received (as you mentioned), was decayed or expired or gone before I log back in in Bitcointalk. I didn't get to spent it. This happened to me before as well. I have received 11 merits so far and I didn't get to send any merits. That is why I'm interested to know how long I can have spendable merits?

First thing, sMerit decay has not be introduced to the Merit system yet. What we know is that theymos had said about introducing one in future but that has not happened yet. So your sMerits could not have decayed.

11 received merits would give you a full 5.5 sMerit to spend of which 5 are immediately spendable. You must have sent them at some point - probably 120days before which is the reason why we are not able to see them anymore.

time did not set yet, but they said you could lost your sMerit by not sending anyone. because they can vanish your merit if they want. so if you got any good suggestion or quality post   you should send your sMerit. because having the sMerit doesn't mean anything to you.

Theymos might not set automatic decaying time for sMerits at any odds.
I strongly believe it won't happen because its implementation might lead to merit give aways to un-deserved threads.

About this decayed merit. Previously I'm a sMerit decaying supporter, however now that I have some sMerit to spend, I have a different opinion. It's rather difficult to get merit, therefore, I treat sMerit with extreme caution. I gave the majority of my sMerit to the one who is worthy of it, so my spending rate is a little bit slow. And this will make sMerit build-up in this account. I'm a bit reluctant to spend it just because it has a deadline.

I doubt if decaying merit if introduced would be on a tight deadline. I would think it would be wiped every year or so allowing more than enough time for someone to get rid of their hard earned sMerit.

I do not see it getting introduced though as its not really a big issue imo.

For now there is no limit time to send out sMerits. theymos said that he will think about decay merit so we just wait for his announcement. I hope that the forum will have better sense when smerit decay function lives.

Merit decay policy has not been approved. It is under consideration. Until then, your smerits stays with you.

But what is stopping you from giving out your merits?

I think it would be a good idea to make available to everyone information about sMerit, this would stimulate users to get rid of it, since those who have a lot of it will look like greedy.

If you mean making it public how much sMerit a user has then I would have to disagree with you on that. There's two main reasons why I would be against this. Firstly, anyone who has sMerit which hasn't been sent yet would likely be targeted by merit hunters, and be sent messages begging them for merit. Just as we see certain users sending messages to merit sources begging for merit.

Secondly, in would add unwarranted pressure on those that haven't found any posts to merit yet. I would rather someone take their time in merited quality posts instead of meriting any post that they come across. This is one of the reasons why I'm against decaying merit also. It just isn't needed, and users shouldn't be forced into meriting if they don't want too.

There's already a message stating that hoarding sMerit has no real benefit, and I think that should be enough.

Don't worry about expiring sMerit. I can assure you that no sMerit of any user was decayed yet. All of sMerit are in safe, and I guess that there is no any reason to burn sMerit. Simply, you sent your sMerit a long time ago, and these merit transactions are not shown in the list.

That means you have already sent your 5 sMerits before 120 days ago or you haven't sent any sMerit within last 120 days ( I can't say exact catagory which you belonged since system only shows the merit history of last 120 days only)

LOL. You still couldn't find any productive posts? Actually where have you been in all the time since merit system implementation? Tongue

It's not decaying as already clearly explained by TheUltraElite.

sMerits are there on your account to spend. They wont be remove unless theymos adds a "decay sMerit" system to the forum.

I saw your merit history and there is one merit that has been awarded to you in the last 4months.

Code:
Received in the last 120 days
June 13, 2018, 09:43:31 PM: 1 from odolvlobo for Re: Evolution of currencies

If you had spent all your sMerits prior to this then this one merit will contribute to a 0.5 sMerit on your account. That much cannot be sent. It needs to be at least 1 sMerit to be able to send. Thats the minimum amount.

I think this should clear your question and if it does please lock the thread to prevent unnecessary comments after this.

As you can see the following message from Admin "There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future."
For now, there is no plan to automatically decay sMerits, but it might suddenly change in the future.

You have received a total of X merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have X sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.
