There were several thousand coins made which I suspect belong to a few hundred owners as some people have multiple rolls of coins.

The question speaks for itself. I'd love to know how many people on the forum own a Casascius coin.

Feel free to talk specifics if you like.

Cheers and thanks!

Can you please take your signature spam somewhere else?
I doubt you have genuine interest in this.
Even if you had real interest, the data collected from this poll and "discussion" would be incomplete and very unreliable.

We would really appropriate if the collectible section remain serious and free from useless discussions with the sole purpose of increasing post count.

Thanks for your comments.

I think this thread should remain in the Bitcoin Discussion section - it's a poll, seeking to get an audience with as many forum members as possible. We're not selling collectibles here.

There are 25,019 active Casascius coins (as of today -> http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius)

Certainly tough to know how many people own a coin, but this is perhaps the best option - asking people at the most popular Bitcoin forum is a great start!

It would be close to impossible to determine how many people own a Casascius physical bitcoin because some people own many of these.

You may be able to determine how many coins have been minted so far by looking into their site: https://casascius.com/

You can also find a couple of coin trackers on the website but i think they are only for funded coins and Casascius have minted some unfunded coins too.

Ps. As mentioned above this should probably be posted in the "collectibles" section board.

I have several serp and Casascius coins that I gave out to family and friends years ago. Sometimes they come to me willing to sell them but I always try to convince them not to sell till 2020. This was the latest one:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.16683315

I have a 2011 coin where the public key was smudged off of it that I've thought about opening up like in this video so that people can see how an original series 2011 was put together as well. It's pretty amazing these have held up so well over the years and continue to get traded in secondary markets and auctions. I don't think the coin I have that is missing its public key will sell at a premium like the others, so it would be a great one to do a video with.

I have a few. I received one directly from Mr Casascius a couple of days before he was shut down so maybe it'll be a mythical example some day.

They're very cool objects.

Strictly speaking I had no idea about these kind of coins till my registration in the forum. Then in a thread someone did an auction about one of these but I thought that were only for collectors. I did not know that they had a private key for real bitcoin under their hologram. I believe that owner of the company had a pretty cool idea. As far as I know they stopped to create anymore. Unfortunately I do not own any of them

I thought it was just another altcoin. When i saw it from collectible section. Its a physical coin. Its pretty cool and pretty expensive too. You can see sample in this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/wts-2012-casascius-bitcoin-physical-coin-sealed-15btc-obo-1763648
You can see more at collectible section.

It is expensive because it is not being made any more. Anything which is limited in quantity and is in demand goes up in price.
If the US government hadn't shut it down for operating without a money transmission licence, there would have been a lot more Casascius coins out there.

what the hell is that coin i had never listen about such coin since iam it the bitcoin business HuhHuh can you explain further more about it?Huh?

it's a physical representation of a bitcoin with a private key hidden behind a hologram so you can redeem it if need be. he made them in brass, silver and gold with denominations from 0.1 btc to 1000 btc.

he also made unfunded versions as well and was eventually shut down in 2013 for 'money transmitting' even though he didn't have a bank account.

The ones loaded with a private key or not? I don't have one myself but yeah, it's interesting to see how many owners of the original coins are out here

Casascius coins are nothing but a collectable gimmick... that's all.

the man himself said he created them to raise awareness of bitcoin. this was back when it was tiny. i think he did an admirable job. they still feature in many media mentions.

i'm curious to see whether they'll become more desirable in the years to come or be a little forgotten. the market for them seems quiet these days.

Casascius coins are nothing but a collectable gimmick... that's all. I think it's a waste of money unless you are a die hard bitcoin fanboy and you think you are going to make money on it as something that's collectible worthy and with appreciate in value with time beyond the bitcoin price itself.

I've never heard of this coin, are you the developer or part of their project because it seems you want to market it to us so it will be great for the continuation of the thread if you tell us your motivation and maybe more about Casascius coin. Thank you.
Stop spamming for your signature payment, i am so sick of you idiots.
If you had of even just read the one post above yours you would see that this is not a new crypto currency it is a physical bitcoin.

I never heard this coin, moreover have this coin, did you a developer of Casascius coin? when this coin launch? do you have a goal to make this pool? or just give me a link to ANN Casascius coin, i will read the Casasius information by myself  Smiley

They were on of the or the first (not sure) physical bitcoins that were created.

They hold different amounts of bitcoin with the private key protected with a holo seal.

I think they are worth 1 or 2 bitcoin more than what they hold (may have changed with recent price increase) and are not produced anymore.

you are posting this in a wrong place, and you already have another topic in the right place (collectible board).
and since these are collectibles and created in a limited numbers then the number of owners are smaller or equal to number of coins created.
for example there are ~3,500 original series created.
