Topic: How many coins does Satoshi Hold? (Read 539 times)

For the guy who left the note "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks", there's only one reason why:
He doesn't care about the price of his possession but its value.
(or he've lost his first node because a random computer technician formatted and installed a new Windows OS to his computer because its getting "slower")

I have no idea if those addresses are locked and lost.

But the first addresses just sit and do nothing.

Actually, it is very hard to tell an exactly number

Can anyone share a link to those addresses out of curiosity?

Sadly the satoshi has not been active since 2010 so it might makes think us that chances for him to still alive is less since the bitcoin were unmoved even if he sell them at current price he might be one of the richest person of this world.But as someone said the value of the coins will be zero until he moves them.

The real point is why does op wants to know how many coins does satoshi have? For example you get to know how many coins he have is it beneficial for you?  Or wants to get motivation to it?  Even thou you do the math by checking the circulating supply of bitcoin, he can have as many as he can since he/they is/are the owner.

It seems to me that if Satoshi does exist, his bitcoins should be searched for at the oldest addresses. Although of course there is no guarantee that this person or a group of people is still not generating coins. Most likely, the answer to your question will not be found until Satoshi himself decides to reveal information about himself.

I dunno, but this will surely be moved to Bitcoin discussion after a while.

On-topic: Why don't you ask him instead: satoshi? What will be the response?
You see, this kind of topic are only designed to be a spam-fest thread, there's no point on "asking" these types of questions.
Finding speculations and articles is much more reasonable, IMO.

Well its s matter of fact, that satosho mined the genesis block and also a matter of fact that he is for sure the person who mined a lot of blocks after that aswell... so its likelay as the difficulty of bitcoin was 1 (lowest possible value) for all blocks up until #32255 blockchain.info so its very likely that satoshi has a lot of bitcoins there but I wouldnt bet a penny on an exact number as nobody can know this.... we have limited data BUT we could find out more if we had the hashrate of every block as this would give us an overview of all the miners (like when genesis block is mined with 10kh/s and the next 1000 blocks also and on block 1001 it goes to 17kh/s then you can be sure that the blocks 1-1000 belong to satoshi) but dont ask me how to extract this information from the blockchain or if there is even a way to do so...

The main thing that fascinates me about people thinking it's important to know how many coins satoshi holds, comes from the fact that they believe he'll be terrorizing the market at whatever point in time.

While I do believe that even one slight movement of one of his mining addresses (even if it's 1 satoshi) will unleash a massive selloff, people are focusing on the wrong entity as being a potential obstacle for the market.

We shouldn't forget that Mark Karpeles is still hiding 200-300k in Bitcoin somewhere, but no one here can do anything other than speculate about where these coins are right now.

It's going to be several hundred thousand whatever. Solo mining for 100 days would've gotten you 720,000 coins at the start and at the start there would only have been Hal Finney who quickly threw it in.

I'm sure there are miners we don't know about but for reasonable periods it would only have been Satoshi. 1 million or 600,000, it's all a bit academic.

I also believe Hal was Satoshi, but who knows. If he could have accessed those coins I believe he would have done it.. After all, he had lots of hospital bills to pay.

Satoshis coins are not in one single address. They are in 20000 different addresses.

Guess we will never know. My best guess is still that it is one person, because a team of people would not remind this silent about their accomplishments, long term. A team of people would, intentionally or unintentionally, spill bits of info here and there, which finally leads to exposure. Too much conspiracy for me. One man though, could keep silent forever, if he really wishes to.

I still convinced that Satoshi was the late Hal Finney (died in 2014). At least he knew more than he was willing to tell. He is by far the best candidate in my view. Only thing pulling down is the emails between Satoshi and Hal. You got to be really foreseeing and calculating to fake email correspondence between yourself and not be detected in writing analyses. On all other matters, he seems to fit perfect.

Best support for a one man and one that has died, is the million bitcoin on the same account. Either you are terrible rich to begin with, lost your private keys / password or are dead; else the coins would have been accessed at one point. It is also a testimony to the strength / security of the private key.  Probably a few 1000 people out there right now trying to get access to this account in one way or another. As long as they remain untouched, you private keys are still very safe. Once movement on the account happens, worry!

Yes,the statement are far away from logic but if you check the wallet trasanction it will link to genesis blocks and maybe the wallet private key are lost or if owner is die. That i dont know but Satoshi want fixing some problem concernig bitcoin mining and hes definitely will be the first person to try it out either. How ever, if Satoshi was not the coins owner theymos would have talk about it on here.

How did they even know it was "someone" who mined those Bitcoins at that point in time. Did the someone mine with a single address or were the researchers able to link multiple addresses to that person?  I hardly read stuff on Satoshi anymore. Am kind of tired of reading conflicting articles on him. I just think whoever he is deserves a lot of credit and respect.

The exact number can only be guessed. But it is at around 700k BTC.
Looking at the earliest blocks, you can see some correlation between the hashrate and other factors which can lead to a conclusion that the majority of these blocks have very likely been mined by satoshi.

What if those private keys got lost ? Or the owner died ? How can you be so naive to say it is 'logic' that they belong to satoshi ?

Its Zero unless those coins comes out. Although actual figure is somewhere around a million.

No one can tell you who is satoshi (is satoshi a man or group of developers?) but it's claimed he owns 980,000 bitcoin. How is it claimed? Well, Sergio Lerner traced first mined bitcoins, he found a single mining source and discovered someone mined 19,600 block but never sold/move any of them. Who would do this and trust bitcoin so far? Logically this person can only be Satoshi.

I've read some different estimates but there is a lot of different opinions.  I would post this in bitcoin discussion section but its spammer central over there.

Whats your best estimate on how many bitcoins satoshi holds?  If someone could provide evidence that would be great.
