I easily know the existing cryptocurrencies through Coingecko or Coinmarketcap before but I visited the two sites today and noticed I did not see anything like the total cryptocurrencies thwt are existing that they listed. Am I not getting it correctly? If there is nothing like that on both sites anymore, which site can I use to know the total number if coins that are existing?
First, the conditions for a coin to be considered to exist should be defined. For example, if a coin doesn't have any trade for days or even months or possibly something small (and this is mostly done by trading bots).
Can it be considered such a coin if it exists or is it just a shell? I have often seen some abandoned coins trying to be revitalized, so the question is also when they cease to exist and move to the graveyard.

Crazy as it is.
And most of these numbers will be out of volume while if some stays with their market cap, the liquidity will definitely be zero. This is why everyone needs to be careful with the trend.
The hype is temporal and many of the ones who FOMO are going to leave themselves in the pit with no money left even if they want to cut their losses.
I learned my share of lesson during the ICO hype period and then the following bear market. Very many coins or tokens die during that period, never to rise again. There was an address of mine that contained so many tokens that I had purchased and airdrops, but 99% of them never survived to the next bull run  Grin

crazy number, no wonder the total3 market cap growing so fat while in the meantime most of alts are still at their all time low Grin
speaks volume about how many altcoin getting pumped out to the market everyday, even with frequent delisting of coin in many exchanges that send the coin to zero, the market cap of total3 still fat as heck.

The number is very high. I wonder whether it also counts all kinds of token (NFT, meme coin, liquid token and others).
Yeah, quite high already and I think it count all of those that you've mentioned and even the dead ones.

This is what it's shown on coinmarketcap.

Thanks. I have seen it. But that is serious. I prefer to check it on the app which was realistic in the past. I have always think it is not realistic on the browser which I have seen something stupid like this before. It was at 1 million coins at the time but just 20000 on the app. Or is it also like that on the app now?
I am not sure about the app because I rarely used it but displaying that numbers of their website, they have the data on it. To be honest, I used to think that there are only 30k-40k active coins around.

Since other member mentioned CoinGecko, i remember they published an article about it on Dead Coins: Over 50% of Cryptocurrencies Have Failed. They state they listed over 24 thousand coins on early 2024.

Lightning network is good with small amount of BTC
If so, I think it's the little figures near the bottom-- the number next to "out of". I tried going to the last page as well, and it matches.

I honestly did not there there is such a huge gap between them lol.
I think this would be helpful. But I am very surprised that there were over 20000 coins on Coinmarketcap in 2020 or so but now less than that. Probably Coinmarketcap become stringent in listing the coins. And also many if the coins become dead coins. But I took a look at the coins on Coinmarketcap in the past, among the over 20000 coins at that time, less than 2500 have a marketcap that is more than $100000 or so.

This is what it's shown on coinmarketcap.

Remember, both sites list the coins and tokens based on different criteria such as trading volume and liquidity. Other tokens are not actually listed officially but just have a page of information, so the huge different is expected

There are also shitload of tokens that are dead and some end up getting delisted since there is no activity for years. I doubt if you will get a conclusive site that lists all the tokens that have ever been created.

I know that there are more coins than the sites are listing. Which means there are more coins. But I like to know the total number of coins and tokens just to know how many they are now. The last time that visited Coinmarketcap was 2 years ago and over 20,000 cryptocurrencies have been existing at the time.

So just to be sure, do you mean just the total number of cryptocurrencies listed in coingecko or coinmarketcap and not the total in the whole crypto space, right?

If so, I think it's the little figures near the bottom-- the number next to "out of". I tried going to the last page as well, and it matches.
