Yeah! That helps a BUNCH because I was actually thinking of making it modular and having people decide for themselves the exact number of GPU's to install.

I think it sounds like a really good idea, just not sure about how such a design would impact my manufacturing expenses...

So look at this and make it modular!
If someone has 7PCIE-ports they use just the two lower layers.
If someone needs 7 more GPUs they can put a second frame on the first and fix them together (layer 3).
If someone needs another 7 more GPUs they put another frame onto the second frame and fix them together (layer4).

Well. If you have all the equipment for mining right already bought, you know how many PCie slots are there. So build a frame that fits the best to your mother board. If you got motherboard with 7 pcie slots, make it for 7 Smiley

8 seems indeed a right number or you could go to 13 with the Asrock mining motherboard. 20 seems to high to me and I would only do it if you are sure you do not have to move it.

Longs story short, I have a friend who works at a factory that mass produces and welds all sorts of metal.

So through him I'm ordering a custom mining rig frame and there is (of course) a few things I need to feel sure about before ordering 100 of those suckers.

When it comes to the measures, I think I got it down.

BUT!

How many GPU's do you guys think such a frame should support?
My instinct tells me that I should make room for 20x GPU's due to the latest motherboards coming out, but I'd love to get opinions from anyone here before I make a decision  Wink

I think 8 is a good number, especially if you plan to sell mostly in the U.S. where most people are used to 120v/15a outlets.  Going with something like 19, 20, or whatever, I think just tremendously complicates things.  Vertical stacking ability for any frame would be useful.

8 GPU's per rig is how I am running and its perfect! Make sure you build or buy a stackable frame. This way if you do want to grow your operation you can do so with ease.

for me personally 8 have been the best option so far
for troubleshooting it is easier and as mentioned above it's a real pain in the ass to troubleshoot 11+ GPU rigs, plus you are loosing too much time doing it and in the meantime mining operation is paused, god knows for how long

I think a better 6-8 GPU in your RIG. If you have a problem, you can easily detect and resolve it instead of the 20x GPU. Especially if in RIG there are different GPU series and brands because there are some cases that require different driver installation version even in same brand and series.

Lol.  I'm guessing he has never built a rig before.  Start small dude and then experiment with other builds that you are interested in.

I too would build 8 GPU rig, with a bit bigger than usual spaces between GPU so i could get more airflow.
8 Gpu rigs are easy to move and it is way easier to build than bigger builds

Medal welded rig cases are very heavy. I would not do it this way.

Best is aluminum. Try one. I'd space for 8 GPU and do 1 case just to be safe.

20 is extreme. U must have very good understanding of what u doing.
