Sounds like a great idea! That'll be a mere $200/bulb. They are also a little slow at only 50GH. Just hope your company doesn't mind that their WiFi network goes crazy when the lights get turned on......

I am not sure it will that efficient. Since its gadget-y and not very practical.

It is probably going to be expensive and inefficient. Then you need to add networking to an apparel that in no way should require it. And then lastly; What happen when the life time of the light is expended?

You would probably save/make more money from using efficient led lighting. Then just get racks of efficient miners, which vastly improve thermal density, which in turn makes heat dissipation much easier to plan out.

The bulb will probably keep mining regardless if the light is on or not. I'm pretty sure I've read that they start mining the second they are screwed into the socket.
This bulbs are horrible for saving energy I guess, as most ppl focus on when buying bulbs. But its genious regarding decentralizing the blockchain/mining.



Apparently you have a different way of controlling a light than I do. My way is with a physical switch that actually disconnects the electrical HOT line to the socket. No possible power available, for mining or lighting. Maybe you control your lights with App on your phone.

As for "decentralization", that's only true if you get to configure the mining pool, and aren't roped into the BitFury mining pool.

What I really want to see is how do they try and price this gadget. Is it going to be a $50 light bulb that mines? Which only adds a premium of $40+ for the mining feature? Best or luck with that approach......

I've made a quick calculation (what've found on the net).
They'll insert 16 Ghs chips on it and 62500 light bulbs are needed.

Also; Imagine that they combine this project with Graphene energy harvesting...

So let's assume that the BF 16nm chip exists and is used, and let's assume that it is 4x on 28nm, and let's assume that the BF 28nm chip is about the same as the BM1385.

Now let's assume they take a single chip and clock it down a bit and get 4 x 25GH/S = 100GH/S.

On that basis we only need 10,000.  Smiley

I like it.  But with 100 GH/S would you ever want to turn the light off.  At that hash rate most of the bulbs cost would be the miner.

I guess the question is, at what point does a light bulb cease being a light bulb and become a full bitcoin miner that gives happens to give out some light.

well with 10k bulbs you're looking for 100 kw/h x 10 cent is $10 per hour which is $240 per day, if for every bulb you have 100gh/s this is 1P

Actually, that would be BitFury.  21, Inc. had other ideas - one of which Bitmain has since been chattering about.  It's okay - I blame OP for the conflation.

This sounds a very reasonable estimate.  

This would add one or two Watts to a 10 Watt LED or CFC bulb (0.1 J/gigahash). So the light bulb efficiency would decline by 10 to 15%.

The bulb would earn 1 or 2 cents a month from mining, assuming the light bulb was switched on 4 or so hours a day. Say 10 cents per year at current difficulty.  Of course your electricity bill also goes up.

Building a Bitcoin miner, and associated Internet connection (WiFi?), into a light bulb is totally crazy.    A light bulb makes light. A Bitcoin miner generates heat, not light.  A miner built into a water heater could make sense as the heat is useful.  A light bulb does not even make sense.  Extra heat is just a sign of an inefficient bulb.
