If you have the following things:

  • something to sell (preferably light and not too expensive to ship)
  • a digital camera (or a phone) to take photos of the items
  • a computer and an internet connection
  • a Bitcoin address to receive payment

you now have a potential way to earn Bitcoins.  And there are no fees and no restrictions on OpenBazaar.

There are some things that eBay will not allow people to list and sell, so OpenBazaar will have an advantage there.

They've put out a blog post about it:

BazaarBay.org is a website which runs a crawler of the OpenBazaar network in order to display content on the web. Their site collects stats as they crawl, which aren’t meant to be precise but give a rough approximation of what the network looks like. According to their stats they’ve seen ~17,800 nodes on the network in total since launch. Of those over 2,200 were vendors selling items. The total number of listings people have put up for sale is just over 6,500.

At the moment there are 546 valid OpenBazaar handles that have registered a blockchain ID.

So 546 people so far.

I think there are at least a few dozen people using it, I can't speak for sure but it seems like there are quite a few people just from the first page or two. How big it is outside of that, though, I'm not sure. Maybe a few hundred to a few thousand people currently use OpenBazaar.

Indeed, I think right now a few thousand are using it, its still need some media attention or a marketing campaign.
If it has some very soon it will get more popular for sure.

Are they promoting it only in bitcoin space, or are they trying for mainstream customers too? What makes Ebay work is that you can find listings in the search engines, on facebook fan pages etc, which means that if you are seller selling niche items, you can reach the few customers that exist for that niche. If they are promoting only to bitcoiners, then they're going to be restricted in that this is quite a narrow community.

It is a lot like a garage sale, although there are some businesses making listings now.  There are listings for Viagra and Cialis and some other drugs that are not illegal, but might be difficult for some people to obtain otherwise.

Very early in the process still, but worth it (free) to create a store and sell items.

Their platform is too laggy for me. But i'll use it when there is a light weight client.

I'm a (new) OpenBazaar user, looks very promising.

Network seems a little unstable, sometimes my client can't connect for hours, even after many restarts and opening ports.
I found out that many others are having the same issue. This must be fixed soon.

Anyway, i like serverless projects like OpenBazaar, hope it will be an success.

They haven't blogged the number yet. One dirt way is take their twitter followership # and divide by whatever factor you think is appropriate. My guess would be that sellers are in the low 1000/'s at this point

I have browsed through the offers a couple of times and most of the sellers seem to be artisans listing items you can find on Etsy or people selling second-hand stuff that is not very exciting at least for me. I saw one dude selling home made beef jerky which was sadly overpriced though and another selling an AK47 build kit so yeah weapons are entering the market on OpenBazaar as well. Also it looks like selling separate Humble Bundle games for a lot more money than they cost in the bundle is a very popular way of getting ripped off lol  Grin As for giving you the correct number of users currently on the market I don't think anyone would be able to do that as you will have to go through the pages manually and check every user's profile to see what has been sold/bought.

I'd be interested to know this too, and I haven't even had a chance to check it out, as I currently don't have a computer.   Just a phone and there's no app for OB.  Yet.

I've explored quite a bit into the marketplace, and I was only able to find profiles and moderators, mostly empty listings. I'm supposing there are still a lot of bugs, like I can't even find my own listing I'm seeding on a VPS.

Is this the new Bitcoin using marketplace? I need the actual confirmed amount of people with accounts on the site. How popular is it? Can you confirm how many people are using it/ buying off of it? I need a good place where I can sell some things.
