Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
A sizable war-chest may be needed just to foot attorney fees, even if a lawyer or two are on board who embrace Bitcoin and opt to provide services at a discounted rate.

I believe it's safe to assume that Gavin's finances are in order to maintain his home and current lifestyle, albeit he's brought home less bacon since his commitment to the Bitcoin protocol. That's the aspect I'm trying to resolve without him having to tap TBF pool, hence requesting what amount are we speaking here.

I still assume that $30K USD is the low end, with $50K USD close to the upper end.

Thanks for the feedback, Este.

I'm sure Gavin could easily land a job that started at 150k+ right away if he decided to do that. So keeping that in mind when deciding an appropriate salary.

If he were to take 30k that would be more of a token salary and something that would cover just the bare essentials depending on where he lives. 30k is better than 0 though and it would be good to know that he could survive and work on bitcoin, unless he has a family to support which might make that more complicated.

I guess it's going to depend on how many people are paying their membership dues. Ideally, I would think the foundation would like to keep a sizable 'war-chest' to be prepared for any issues with governments or legal issues that might pop up.

But if they were paying Gavin 80k or so and still had a good amount of funds to work with I don't see that as being unreasonable at all.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
The way I see it, only one of the board members of The Bitcoin Foundation (TBF) may need to get paid at this juncture, and that's the lead developer, Gavin. The others seem to have a viable income source to sustain their livelihood, albeit I believe Gavin's wife does bring home some bacon with her career, but that shouldn't necessarily enter into the equation.

The sentiment has been echoed many a time that nobody at TBF should get paid, therefore save that discussion for another thread. What I'm asking is what dollar amount are we talking here, for I may have a solution, but need to know if what I have in mind is viable?

Gavin has proven himself (I believe) to be a straight-up individual, and should be able to address this delicate question in a somewhat straightforward manner.

My guess is no less than $30K USD a year, and no more than $50K USD a year, but if for some reason the sum is considerably higher, it'll still be doable, but at this penning I don't personally see it approaching $100K USD a year unless I'm missing something.

I look forward to the replies.
