I believe that starting with a small amount is a stupid an toxic idea. Here is why.
If you are going to trade with 20-50 USD or any amount which you consider insignificant , you wont trade, you will gamble. And if you do so, you will accumulate a huge amount of very bad habits that eventually will be your downfall. Trading is a seemingly easy process, but as you become more advanced in it you will realize that most losses come not from technical analysis mistakes but from the human factor. Read about "trader tilt" before you start trading. Find ways to control FOMO.
Develop your psyche before you start trading.

Bitmex is an extremely dangerous and manipulated exchange. If you cant handle sudden spikes and by handling I mean controlling yourself, you will lose. Tryust me , I've paid for this knowledge an extremely expensive price.

The only reasonable way is having a deposit which you can barely afford to lose. Start trading on a demo account with the exact same amount. Develop your strategy, find favorite coins if you plan to trade anything but bitcoin, then start slowly trading the real money

Also, you also have to understand that if you are trading with 20K and more it is a completely different strategy than trading 1000 USD. with 20K you will be limited to btc and eth only because of low liquidity on other pairs.

P.S. If your deposit is small, change BTC to uBTC in bitmex settings. Gives a slightly better perspective

I remember in my first-time trading in bitmex for only $50 because I don't know anything about leverage trading, and I want to know how it works. But then, I realize that I can get a bigger profit from that, so I add more $50 in my balance. Finally, I have $100. But because my first $50 already been used, I only need to follow what I did before, so I use the other $50 to trade and in the next day, I can make a small profit.

So base on what I tell you, you can also try with $50 to learn about leverage trading, and if you think you can trade with good, you can add more balance in your account so you can open another order buy or sell. But don't be greedy and chase bigger profit if you don't understand how to do leverage trading because that will be too risky for you.

When I'm also new in bitmex, I deposited small amount of money for the testing stage only. I practiced for that capital until I have learned the movements of indicators, the chart and the volume, etc. Then when I have decided to take it to the next level, I have deposited enough capital  the amount that I can still managed even if I lose.

Leverage trading is not the usual trading yoh are thinking, OP. So, I suggest you do the practice in bitmex testnet first. Then, deposit maybe around $50-$100 first then you may add up higher amount if you gained confidence and knowledge.
If one has big amount to trade with already, I don’t see why one should go into leverage already, we can take a less risky trade and make money without having to leverage. Now that bitcoin has a bull run market, which is usually the best time to trade, I think anyone can make it big.

Within the past few months since bitcoin has started increasing, I have make at least 5x of my investment which was traded in a safe way, I know that one could use leverage to trade between 2x to 100x, but the risk is what I cannot imagine, but fir any trader who thinks that he knows the in and out of trade and will never fail, then there is actually nothing bad in trading with 10x, if the person is lucky to catch all the highs with 10x, then he is made already.

For testing it is better to start with a very small bankroll. You will almost always lose first. Only when you grope your trading strategy is it worth making a weighty deposit. The deposit should allow you to meet the expected value of your trading, which will satisfy you.

It seems to me that every investor who already has experience has real answers to the questions about how much and in which project you need to invest.  The person who really controls the means and is able to analyze the technical information of the projects, Will make the right choice.  And if someone asks a question about how much to invest in a coin, it means that he really needs to have several hundred dollars to learn this.

It also depends on what type of leverage you want to do as well. I mean just 500 bucks on 100x leverage could make someones life change a whole lot if you know the direction bitcoin is going. You can literally make thousands of dollars in an hour, if you invest at the right time with the 100x leverage and 500 dollars, there is no reason why you should not have over 10k in just couple of hours if the price goes up without going down (or if you bought short then goes down without going up) because the margin of error is low but the reward is that much great as well.

However, if you want to do less leverage like 5x or whatever then you may not get that much of a profit at all and might as well do the regular trading instead of margin trading. That is why which leverage you will use kind of decides how much you would need.

Hey.
Just a quick question to you guys - How much money I need to start investing on Bitmex?
Im thinking about using leverage, I know it's risky but my capital won't be too big.

Leverage trading is not for small investors. If you do leverage trade with small amount you can be liquidated very quickly if the market moves in opposite direction. For leverage trading you need quite a big portfolio and only then you will be in benefit as you have power to sustain the bitcoin movements.
If you have small investment then its better to trade at other exchanges and leave leverage trading for time being.

It depends on your skill and your profit target, even with leverage, the more you trade with, the more profit that you have, but if this is your first time of trading bitmex, I would advise that you use not more than $100 to start with first, and test your skill and also to see the potential of the coin, secondly ensure that you do not allow your greed to take over you and make you leverage high.

When trading with leverage, set a very low leverage please, I think 10x will do, and never ever listen to anyone advising that you leverage 100x, that is very risky and you will lose your money easily before you get to learn from trading of this coin. Once you have mastered your trade with the $100, then you can gradually start increasing the amount based on your capacity.

Can you risk trading on leverage? Your question makes you sound like a newbie.
Trading leverage either as a normal trader or newbie is very risky and not advisable for someone like you unless though you are ready to lose all your funds in few trades?

BitMex has a demo trading feature.  I will advise you to use it before deciding to trade with real money.

I don't recommend you using Bitmex if you are still starting to trade. It's fun but too risky for a beginner. If I were you, I would start with trading lessons and trials in other exchange platforms, those without leverage. Using leverage is a double-edged sword. You could big time, you could also lose big time. At the end of the day, you are like gambling instead of trading. Use of leverage is best only to those who have studied it well.

You make this sound like you are gambling in a normal dice casino,,, and I guess the way you talk, this is exactly how many people like yourself approach trading! Saying you will almost always lose first means you enter to gamble, not to trade with strategy. You do realize how amateur this makes you look right?

If you're talking about exchanges like BitMEX, I don't think "investing" is the right term to use. It's more of "gambling" like jostorres said.

If you really want to speculate or "invest" in Bitcoin, I heavily suggest to just straight off buy Bitcoin and just keep it for years to come. That's a more non-stressful way of doing it, and could end up being more profitable if you hold it long enough(especially as an inexperienced trader).
moreover he uses a leverage strategy, of course the risk will be far greater. You have to adjust the capital with the skills you have, you understand the right allocation for yourself, because you know the level of skills you have, you also have to consider your courage to accept losses and your financial abilities

you can invest very low investment also but you need to be interested in it otherwise you cannot more concentrate about the next move from this side then you cannot be hundred percent involved in this field so that their investment can be low but you need to give your 100% effort.

In my opinion, $500 is enough to start investing in Bitmex. But before you leverage the trade you must know it well. If you do not know then there will be a loss. It's very risky. Start with Bitcoin. Then there can be good results.

I think wherever you are going to start investing, start from the $ 1000 number because in my opinion that number is a standard number and is suitable for starting early.
sometimes more doesn't give us maximum profits and vice versa.
1000 $ is the right number to start your investment in Bitmex.

OP said he did not have much money, I think he should start with $50 to test and practice. Small amounts are ideal for testing and practice
that's true because for any amount of capital that will be issued if our ability is not sufficient it is useless you will find it difficult to get results, and you are also likely to be able to get a loss of money because your ability is still small.
and my advice is better to use small capital while we hone our skills so that the future can be better
Its always been ideal to use up small amounts rather than on directly spending big amounts just for testing phase. This is primary mistake on most newbies who do hurry on engaging into things without even minding the risk behind.
When it comes to the money that would able to spend out then it would depend on financial capacity of a certain individual.

Bitmex is really a double-edged sword where you could get rekt in both sides. Whether you are in long or short, you could profit greatly and loss greatly. It's up to the trader whether or not he will manage his stop losses, etc. I hope that everyone should understand first the risk before tackling the exchange head-on. It's a matter of losing your capital or not.

I know the best way to consider what to do is to believe that you are risking the right amount of capital that you invested. Have the mindset of someone who is willing to risk their capital in exchange for nothing.
  • A person who is investing $100 in expectation to double it in one month
  • A person who is investing $100 and that person can afford it even if he loses everything

See the difference? That's the mindset that investors should have. Believe that you can make it and not make yourself emotional

I am working at BXB exchange, where we offer 100X leverage as well.

You can start as low as 1$, and the actual trading is being gamified.
Instead of minutes, we use seconds trading, which we call Tap Trading.

Check out this video for more details.

I think you will love this way more than Bitmex.

P.S. sorry if it comes as a sales pitch...

Everything is indeed a freedom on something else that you would like to invest with. If bitmex would have nice future as an investment, maybe I prefer to start at least $100 as optimum amount. More than that, I don't think it's a good try when you start at bigger amount of money. Probably there's some person but those were risk takers.

About the funds, he mentioned it's not that big so maybe he just wants to test the waters how things work on Bitmex.

That's right that is not investing that is gambling because that is too risky. But if you have a fund that you are willing to lose then yes you can do it. They said that risk taker will also lead to success, I think if you can afford to put a big capital so why not start gamble there with a big amount and might also big profit return.

"Common rogue from Russia with a bare ass."

As has been pointed out, you don't "invest" on Bitmex, you gamble.

How much deposit do you need? Anything will do.

What is the Minimum Deposit to trade on BitMEX?
The minimum amount to trade on BitMEX varies from product to product depending on the Initial Margin.
For XBTUSD (for example) it is $1 USD * 1% (Initial Margin) = $0.01. At a XBT/USD price of $600 this equals 0.00001667 XBT.

It is a weird question for me. The person who doesn't know no how to to invest and how much investment should be involved in his trading startup will not be fit for trading platform.
I believe you can understand that well because of my reply and others.
You should be aware of all the risk factors involved in trading especially margin trading or leverage.

Depending on the amount that you can afford to lose up and yet margin trading is just some sort of gambling on my own experience.

Without typical knowledge on how to entry and how to get out then better to save your penny and just stick first into more worthy choice
just like on simply buying bitcoin.

Bitcoin FTW!
If you're excessively stressing over a position, then you have too much money on it. Put in a small amount you are absolutely okay with losing, try using the testnet to learn the basics of the Bitmex site layout, and start. I have no idea how much money you have at the moment or your situation so I can't give you an exact amount, but anything you can absolutely afford to lose (on the smaller side) works.

Bitmex does have some pretty significant withdrawal fees compared to some other exchanges, so do take note of that. They do have an extremely low minimum deposit amount though.

I don't think there is a limit to start trading on bitmex for personal number reasons. I mean there is a limit for depositing, they do not allow you to deposit 1 satoshi, there was a limit (which I don't remember right now but you can check it on your account when you try to deposit).

Aside from that deposit limit there is nothing stopping you from gambling with whatever you want, the trading and the leverages all require a minimum amount and as long as you go beyond that amount you can just do whatever you want. If you can't meet those minimum requirements then I am afraid there is no way you can go around it, however if you can trade at least that much then you don't have to worry about making it big, I started all of this with 17 dollars back in the day so you can do as bare minimum as you can as well.
