Some days ago it was announced that there was an attack on the DNS of MEW, but now the whole situation seem calm.
The following are tips on how not to get scammed as a result of the usage of MEW:
1. Install EtherAddressLookup or MetaMask - any of these will help to warn you of malicious site.
2. If you are sent a link by anybody, whether by an individual or a body, do not click on it directly. Search for it on google, it must be present there.
3. Check every URL carefully if there is/are anything weird characters or symbols. This was once done by some hackers who faked Binance site.
4. Also scan every address you are sending to on etherscan, for details before and after transaction.

I believe this is useful to an extent, you can as well add, if you have any addition that might be useful.
