Actually I've been wondering, is there some kind of way to make a significant donation, money or work, that would get you full member instantly?

That would be cheating!!!!  Tongue

Well, merits and leveling-up kind of go hand in hand. Once you get to activity of 14, the restrictions on how often you can post are lightened. When you post frequently (and good quality), other users reward you with merit which you combine with your activity to move up rank.

Good luck  Smiley

So I answered this question before, I wanted to share the answer with you too: the Merit system was introduced in January of 2018.  According to forum Administrator Theymos, "The merit system was done to increase the quality of the posts and to prevent the spam."  According to Theymos it does this in two ways:

1. Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
2. Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

So In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks.

The original post can be found here: Bitcoin Forum > Other > Meta > Merit & new rank requirements

Here is the new requirements for ranking up according to the Admin Theymos (This is the copy from the Merit & new rank requirements post)

1 activity, 0 merit

There is no such option to update the membership . You have to write quality posts to increase your ranking. Ranking will increase based on Merit and activity. For more details go to newbiee section.

merits are based on the quality of your content. I would highly suggest you to post something which is helpful to others. your level will be upgraded based on your merits.

When you say membership, are you referring to copper member?
-Upgrading your membership status is paying amount to become upgraded.
or you just referring to Rank?
-as for rank to reach up Jr. Member you just have to increase your activity.

Maybe it's a good idea to read the sticky posts here in this topic!

What forum account levels are there?
There are multiple account levels on this forum, here is a quick list for all of them and how to get them:

Quote from: theymos on January 24, 2018, 11:00:11 PM
Rank   Required activity   Required merit
Brand new   0   0
Newbie   1   0
Jr Member   30   0
Member   60   10
Full Member   120   100
Sr. Member   240   250
Hero Member   480   500
Legendary   775-1030   1000

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. For more information, checkout Forum ranks/positions/badges and Merit & new rank requirements.

Can someone maybe a full time member or even a mod explain how these forums work?

How do you level up in membership?
the way to level up is to just keep posting and receive points. You need 30 points to rank up to jr. member and from there on you need more points as well as merits.

whats merits?
merits are like points that people give you. they can give you them for a good quality post or something that you helped answer for them. If they like your post or if you answered their question in a very good or informational way then they can give you merits.

does the limit of post get slower or faster the more you post?
the limits stay the same, they dont change.

If theres anything else I missed please inform me.
also, you need to know that you only can receive one point per day and you need 30 points to rank up to jr.member so you will need to basically post for 30 days because you can receive 14 points in 2 weeks and if you count that out and divide it up thats 1 point per day. Lets say you post 10 posts in 1 day you will still only receive 1 point.

Thanks in advance Smiley)))

We can level up if we ngepost to this forum. Every 2 weeks once activity only increases 14, so the difference between post and activity is, if post it contains posting in bitcointalk forum. If the activity is every 2 weeks will increase 14

The way this forum works is someone who does not know what a bitcointalk is asking and someone who knows better answers. The benefits of this bitcointalk forum we can share.

My friend of mine who referred me here says that I have to rank up first as a Jr. Member to be able to join some campaigns.  Smiley

actually there are some ICO that gives opportunity to newbie member to follow signature campaign but of course very difficult to find it, even the end of this campaign signature to rank jr.member also quite difficult to find, therefore while raise your rank to jr.member better you also learn how this forum and what is in this forum, and after you reach rank jr.member you can follow signature campaign even at that time you surely have some knowledge ....

If your problems are the interval time limit, you can increase your rank to copper member position that can reduce the interval post limit and you can also post images.

Check this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

Take note it's a paid membership so if you really need it you need to pay the membership.

However, if you are here for the signature campaign and you wanted to rank up then you must contribute here first in the forum to earn merits.

You just need to discuss things you know about, and learn new things before discussing them.
Never make a comment that's already been said 10s of 100s of times as that's what is considered a spam.

There's a time limit that comes with each rank, it gets lowered down once you gain higher ranks.

The wait time between posts decreases if your rank increases.
There was a formula for it somewhere but i can't remember exactly where. It basically has nothing to do with the amount of posts you have, but rather your rank.

Thank you that clears it up  Smiley if anyone can find more info that would be great!
