Dunno, but I am getting terrific hash rates on my 5870 & 5850 with the driver version I posted above... should be catalyst 11.6

wow. my drivers are very old....

do i get better MH/s rate with newer drivers on 5830 cards?

There should be somewhere a list of dates when various catalyst versions were released.

Looks like 10.11 or 10.12 by the date.

how can i tell it is catalyst 11.X version?

dmesg | grep fglrx

Will give you a ton of information including the date of the driver, e.g:
