@quickseller : is the chances of a collision  just using the first  6 digits  of the public adress are really hight ?  Roll Eyes

If assuming 6 digit short code LTC address always starting with "L" and digits are base58 and not considering the aspects of vanity, then would the chance of a random collision be in the ball park:

1/58^5 or 1 out of 656356768.

It is unlikely, but by far not impossible.

Most lealana LTC has 8 digit short code, so the chance of collision with those are significantly smaller.
@TookDk , yeah you're right  , i was wrong : it's 8 digits..  anyway thank you for your kind answer  Wink

Hey guys,

I purchased a Lealana 1 LTC coin few days ago from wheelz1200.
I was wondering, how do I get the public key for the coin?

Is there a way to check it online?
@cryptoheadd , when weelz1200 will give you the entire public adress ( as quickseller have said to you, with a list pgp signed  from smoothie to attest it's an original public key ) , you can check it  here:  http://explorer.litecoin.net/ , or as said above , on blockr.io.

The original owner of the coin should have gotten a GPG signed message with all the coin types and full funding address for each coin. You can get this GPG signed message from wheelz1200 and then compare the list of addresses to the first bits on the physical coin. This would entirely eliminate the possibility of a first bits collision

Yeah he will get it tonight when i can dig through my smoothie archives as i dont keep them on hand.  Agree to avoid any mishap i would get the addresses that smoothie sends with his coins to the buyer.

You can find the full address list for older Lealana coins here:
http://lealana.com/fulllistltc.txt

I would guess that the coin you have bought is of newer date.
So yo have use another method, you can look up the short code here:

http://ltc.blockr.io/

However, there is a chance for collision; another LTC address that have the same first digits.
It is unlikely, but by far not impossible.
As long as there is no collision then is it save to assume that the address found at ltc.blockr.io is your address.

If the address you find is funded with exactly 1 LTC then can you be almost sure that you got the right address.

The "correct" way would be to get the full public address from your seller or smoothie. IMO not needed if we talk about 1 LTC, then will blockr.io be sufficient. However if the coin was funded with a large amount, then would it make sense.

Hey, thank you!
I wanted to use that coin as cold storage, so as to add more coins to it.
Here's the address that I got from blockr.io: LY1YvwasnwkvLbnzD2wMN3pvffodAzZCiu

This address contains 1 LTC & is probably the correct one.
