Great idea in theory, horrible in practice. Here's what would happen: People would start spamming their articles and begging for upvotes, probably even paying others small amounts of BTC for upvotes, as long as they make more than they spend. You'll also have people cheating, using proxies and botnets to upvote their articles. It's just not going to work.

Devtome is hideous and full of garbage. I'm not really sure why it even exists.

From what I saw, it's a bunch of crappy pages with random information that has no flow and is generally just ripped from other sites (minus the formatting).

Due to the above issues, the site has nothing useful on it and it looks like shit while it's at it.

This plugin is called Reddit.

Sadly when I helped start devtome a while ago, I saw the vision. Today I really just don't think they have enough mods, which is the hardest part for any crowd source, free to publish system. I think they should take on a bitcoin wiki approach, charge to gain access to the wiki, but that would hurt the devcoin model.

Most stuff on Devtome is rubbish. Getting rid of the lunatics, 14 years old wannabe writers, and other pseudo artists would be a good idea.

The way to increase the value of DVC is to give people more confidence in Devtome.  Promoting Devtome is not the best way to increase the confidence in Devtome until there is something worthy of promotion.  We need to make this upgrade, and then do lots of promotion.

Does no one like this idea because it means you have to write good content and means you might not get paid?  We need to address this issue of how to reward better content.  I've seen it has been discussed before but the solution I have proposed hasn't been discussed.  Please, share your thoughts on this.  It's a free upgrade I am proposing, and it could make a huge difference to the future of Devtome if only the highest voted+viewed articles are rewarded.

I have an idea.  It seems to me what Devtome needs is a better way to reward high quality writing, and to discourage bad quality writing.  Why don't we install this free wiki-voting software?

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.adaptavist.confluence.page-commment-vote-plugin

It's free for open source websites, such as Devtome.  It would allow for there to be a voting option on each page that is created.

I don't think everyone who writes anything on Devtome should get paid.  That has been tried and tested, and we can see the results.  Content quality is lacking on many Devtome articles.  It's reasonable to say that only those with good enough writing should get paid, otherwise we will end up with a website full of crap.  So far we have had no fair way to decide which articles are worthy, but if we installed this voting system it will enable us to build a much higher quality website.

For example, if we installed the software and made a new rule that only the top 20 voted articles each round earn any money, people will have much more incentive to write good quality work, as well as promote their work to get more votes.  It will also mean that the money is divided up to a smaller group, so those who do get paid will get paid more, as well as reducing the amount of low quality work that is published.  I don't know how many articles are posted to Devtome each round so maybe it should be more like the top 50 get paid rather than only the top 20, but you get the idea.

A final point is that we wouldn't want voting to be possible on category pages, or the main pages where there are instructions, hopefully that can be configured in the settings.

I really think this is what Devtome needs to clean itself up, and raise the value of DVC.

Any thoughts?  Can we make this happen?
