It's worth noting that Dwolla is cheaper: $.25 per transaction, versus 1% on Coinbase. Dwolla is most useful for moving money into an exchange, so you'd have to go the extra step of opening on exchange account (I'd suggest CampBX: https://campbx.com), but of course you can then just send those BTC wherever from there. CampBX doesn't charge anything additional for funding through Dwolla, so the total cost is 25 cents plus whatever transaction fees you pay to move the coins afterwards.

Coinbase is nice. Just have to wait for the bank transfer.. I think it took me 3 or 4 days to get my coins.

I've used both Dwolla and Coinbase with no hassles. If you just want to send BTC to an existing wallet, I'd go with Coinbase, as long as you have a bank account you're willing to link.

Guys I used these guys from these very forums and the experience has been great. I got the best rate of exchange in under 1.5 hours tops for entire transfer.

You can use FaceBook and buy using PayPal.

Coinbase maybe? Look up the sites in the official bitcoin wiki, there's lots of them.

Try localbitcoins.com, a lot of sellers allow online bank transfer, and the site has a built in escrow

Howdy,
I've been using bitinstant for probably 18 months hassle free and easy.  Now those two eugenically modified Harvard twins have bought bitinstant and changed the front end with a new beta and it does not work at all.  So how do I convert dollars to bitcoins safely- preferably without a person-to-person transaction unless it is a function of a pre-existing business like a money exchange or pawn shop.  I don't want to meet in a parking lot.

Also I would probably have to drive to San Antonio to make the transfer.  So there we are.
