? I dont understand.

My onboard graphics controls my main desktop, radeon #1 extends the screen where i dont have anything its just black
if i dont extend to one radeon, it gives me error in CGMINER where I can't set fan speed or read temperatures and even msi afterburner doesn't work

2243Mhash average now after about 12 hours
970-1000 watts jumping around at the wall
highest temp gets 86 degrees, maybe higher if the AC at my house was off, temperature target is 80, so if i OC more I'd be exceeding max temps possibly and of course the efficiency of watts isn't good but if BTC keep going up maybe i'll be tempted for a max overclock

Last point:
Intensity 8 is now getting me more Mhash than Intensity 9

Somehow I went from 2244Mhash/s to 2270 just by increaseing from 840mhz/280 to 850mhz/284 Cheesy Smiley
I have been doing this after opening CGMINER script:
1. open taskmgr as Admin and set cgminer priority to Realtime
2. Minimize all windows
3. Lock computer

In hopes (I think fulfilled hopes Wink ) of decreasing GPU/CPU usage and increasing mhash

Alright, I think you have it licked then. I wouldn't worry about that 30Mh/s as that will even out over a week. Just use whichever one you are most comfortable with.  Hint: cgminer  Grin

Not sure if helps hashrate at this point but open taskmgr as Administrator and set priority of cgminer.exe to Realtime

At what vcore and memclock?

1.1vcore, memory always 1/3 of clock
840/280 1.1v

Diablo miner 2200Ghash
CGMiner diablo kernerl 2230Ghash

Maybe they should be the same hash rate, same kernel? would have to run each at least 12hrs for better estimations
CGMiner seems to more utilize the GPU's

Good to hear that you have it all sorted out now mate. Those numbers sound much more in line with what people were getting with that kind of rig.

Yeah the one i was aiming for I think they lied or they just wrote down the highest number they saw hashing, said they got 739Mhash for 5970 with cgminer 2.3.1 @795mhz same as me
I'm getting 711.6 per card, maybe multi card setup makes it harder

same settings except looks like he's under linux (Debian Squeeze) fglrx-driver 12.1.1

E: 96% i'm assuming that's efficiency...

looks like 00.19% stale rate

Couldn't help it

overclock more cost 120 watts for another 100Mhash. Still worth it at these prices

It was crashing when ASUS Power saving was in effect, set BIOS to ASUS Performance

Now I think that's why my BAMT was crashing. BUt anyway I'm getting the same efficiency and I have more control over software under an OS I understand

you can use intensity 9 on all gpu's unless one is a desktop gpu and will be used on a regular basis... .I would use intensity 6 for a desktop gpu...

depending on the card... 128 is best IMO.... 256 worked good on 7950 series card...

Try them all... see what works best for you...

Definately not 64, 1860Mhash
128 = 1980
256 = 2000+ mhash

using diablominer 64, 128, 256 is making almost the same result

Why did you switch?  If you are going to be using diablo I don't think 11.6/2.5 is necessary for that, only for phatk.

Looking for that optimal rate i was getting before. no way one SSD & win7 is using more than 20watts from my wall compared to bAMT with linux/flash drive

Can you copy the bat file text here without your login info so I can have a look?

cgminer.exe -u workername -p password -o miningserver -r port

thats it

result:
Please check the details from the list below of the servers you hav einput

Most likely you hav einput the wrong URL forgotten to add port or have set up worker

Pool 0 url http://mine1.bctguild.com user ....

previously my optimal settings are: -I 9 -v 2 -w 256 -k phatk --failover-only
what i got from mining hardware comparison page for other 5970 owners

2 things:  try skipping the -r port command and just tack it on the end of the url as http://pool.url.com:port

A batch file is probably the easiest until you have everything set up the way you like, then you can tell cgminer to make the conf file for you and all you will need after that is a plain shortcut.

EDIT: Thinking more on it maybe you should give the donation to ckolivas as cgminer is a nice piece of software and I think he deserves it. Smiley

I got GPU Monitor software because GPU-Z freezes when I'm mining and crashes my display.
GPU Monitor however shows 12 cards, with Daiblo running each show 99% load. I guess that means each of my cores are running 98% load with Diablo

FRESH CGMiner doesn't seem to work the way i'm wanting it with bat file it doesn't connect to the pool properly
Example, another folder of cgminer i had preconfigured worked, it has a .conf file with only the pool, but the bat file i had connected to a different pool and worked
i copy the same bat file login to that pool and use the new cgminer without a .conf file and it gives me pool connection error, never starts hashing

When you start up a freshly extracted cgminer what bin for the cypress is generated.  I just would like to know what it defaults to.

I'll do that, cgminer 2.6.1, should i use a bat or shortcut with target script add the pool to connect to or actually make a conf file with ONLY the pool login?

I used to run a couple of tri-5970 rigs.

I never had any issues running them with cgminer.  There are several kernels to choose from in cgminer. On a fresh extraction just fire it up and see what default bin gets generated. If you don't want that one then specify in a batch file and you will see a new bin generated.

Driver cleaner/driver sweeper does not automatically remove the opencl files. You need to start by uninstalling the sdk through the install program, then go into system32 and syswow64 directories and delete any atiocl*.dll and amdocl*.dll files if they have not been cleared out. Then you can downgrade the SDK cleanly because if a newer version file is still there then it stupidly gets precedence.

As far as what cgminer reports on hashrate versus your pool website, that is a different issue entirely and has a lot to do with network performance as well as mining gear.
I would let your test runs go for at least 12 hours (better 24) before deciding something is not quite right with the reporting. The numbers will converge given a sufficiently long time frame.

A nice part about the 5970 is that you can downvolt it slightly while keeping modest overclocks which should help your wattage at the wall. You will have to play with it some to find good stability.

Don't worry about the donation, I am just here to help. Smiley

P.S. - Enjoy the $10 per BTC while you can.

I've used both and found that the hashrates were comparable but on my rigs windows 7 actually used less power. Go figure. Never did find out why. Smiley

Are you using any 5000 series?

I think Diablo Miner is my best option here, it may have seen a 2-5% increase after sdk 2.7->2.5, I hope there's no problem since I didn't use driver cleaner to make sure all files were gone
Still have Drive 12.6, should I revert that to 12.1?

Diablo Miner gets up to 1920 Display with slight overclock, compared to 1840Mhash with CGMiner

I wonder if maybe the hashrates are just being reported wrong?

Now this is confusing, CGMiner went from 1827->1840 Mhash after 8 hours on, BTC Guild went from 1564->1878 then I refresh and it gets all the way up to 1910Mhash

Now with Diablo just started it shows 1907, refresh, 1897Mhash.

I think I'll just be testing each miner for best results in 8 hours, maybe revert radeon drivers and see if improvement then figure which is best and overclock to get max hash

ONE THING, Diablo Miner only using 770watts at the wall whereas CGMiner used 840 at same clock rates!

Overclock: 744clock/248mem

my old BAMT ideal: 738/246 I think that got me 2060mhash (or maybe it was 744/248 that got me that, in that case 738 got me 2010 or 2020Mhash) and 810 watts at the wall

Why are you using SDK 2.7 on a tri 5970 rig?  Best results will be with SDK 2.5.

As for cgminer from memory it was  -w 256 -k phatk --failover-only with clocks of 800/300 worked well I believe.

If I use those settings in a .bat file will cgminer still load the core and memory settings from the conf file? [those settings get me 1770Mhash]

with BAMT i found 246mem/738 core (1:3 ratio) was best, and got me 2060mhash total

also heard any changes to core in cgminer settings requires a restart

If you are going to use a batch file you might as well setup everything in it just for simplicities sake. Then you can add all to the conf file when it works how you want.

You can change most settings within the cgminer suite without a restart as it has a menu system. I still think you should dial back the SDK on 5 series hardware though. Smiley

What are your gpu clocks? I don't think you'll hit 667mhash/card at stock clocks. (But like I said, I don't have experience with the 5970's.)

So when you used the gpu, did all of the cores show up in the miner? When I say that, I mean were you able to mine successfully on all 6 cores once you used one of the graphics cards?

You don't need to keep it that way, I just want to see if it's a driver issue (where neither the onboard nor the gpu work for mining) or a hardware setup issue where the onboard doesn't work, but a gpu does. It might still be a driver problem even if the gpu does work.

overclock working with display plugged into one of the radeon's i think gets me 2-4 less Mhash on that core

You mentioned the onboard video, it's AMD onboard, right? If it's intel or nvidia onboard video, then there may be a driver conflict.

Have you tried just using one of the 5970's for video just to see if that works?

don't want to do that

and the fan's aren't kicking up enough

guess i'll try using one as gpu fuck

I would try -w 64, -w 128 and -w 256 and see which responds the best and gives you the best hashing power.

Also, add -v without a value.

128 yields the best, with the -v both I already had tested

now installed msi afterburner but it has the sliders locked and no lists of any of them

Also I'd rather use a program with a backup Pool list
haven't got CGMiner working yet

Got it working GUIMINER. now what flags for me to get 300Mhash up to the standard 320Mhash I should be getting per core?

If you've come looking for the settings:
Use Sapphire Trixx to set clock 747mhz, memory 249, it takes a lot of clicking to reduce the memory so far, PM for details, stock voltage may work
Make sure it is applied to all 5970 cards, hopefully is. otherwise, try opening msi afterburner on top, this also has better fan control

CGMiner 2.6.1 settings: -i 9 -v 2 -w 256 -k diablo --failover-only

Plugged into Radeon as 2nd display, black desktop BG, to reduce gpu usage, had to do this or else CGMiner can't display temperatures and control fan speed itself for the Radeons

@840Mhz/240 memory: 980 watts at the wall
2200Mhash+ (733 per card)
