Consider merits like a Facebook like system where you put your content and the other guy will hit the like button if he wants to appreciate your content. However, there is a limit on number of outgoing merits so everyone will use it whenever they will find it worth spending their merits. The best way to earn merit is to share your knowledge with the community members and if someone finds your content valuable than they will give you merit points as a gesture of appreciation.

You should never try doing such stupid stuff, bro.
You can tell your friends to give you merit. Smiley

Agree with you, guy. You can report them by simply commenting in the following available topics:
List of users who are abusing merit system
More mass merit farming
Then, strict punishments will come to them almost immediately due to their abusements against original good purposes of merit system.
Please can you report those, as they would appear to be against the spirit of the merit system.

To increase merit you must post a quality, valuable, have sense, and constructive post. So that people will give you merit if they see that your post is a good post. It is tradable? You mean exchange of merits? Yes, ofcourse you can do that thing, and you can ask your friends to give you merits.t

Earning for merits? Just post a valuable or a quality post so that someone will give you merit. Also, there are some thread that the reward is merit when you do the job there. Like editing videos, or making something. You can tell your friends to give you merit. Smiley

due to the lack knowledge of merit system. i think admin should pin a topic about merit and people will expore what they want about the system.
Create too many  topics like this is a waste of source

There is about 300 threads about merit, a 20 minute search and READ of the forum will answer 99% of questions any user may have. The fact that a user could help themselves and find the info is proof that the majority of these redundant threads are made by lazy people who struggle with the English language (not saying this about OP for once)

To get merit these day is a bit competitive. In the sense that, you have to work for it and your work in form of good posts must be acceptable and helpful. All one needs to do is to keep posting good comments, until the time that comment will be helpful to someone or people that will award you some merits.

You can increase your merit by posting quality and useful posts. I also have the same problem, i wasn't able to rank up because of the merit system. But i see the merit system as a good rule to avoid spamming. Some users just post different types of topics or replies that are not helpful enough. They only post for the purpose of making their rank high so to get a much bigger payment on signature campaigns. The bad thing is that some users used to abuse the merit system. There are some users who have a lot of bitcointalk account who used to merit their own account and not giving it to other users who deserve the merit. But there are still some who are patiently reading topics and used to give merit to those who are deserving and are working hard. Its nice to have a merit system, but hope that we users become equal on giving merits.

I highly appreciate your opinion. After participating in bitcointalk, I find myself a better writing skill than before. I don't know when shall I get only one precious merit, but there is one thing that I am quite sure that my writing skill has improved. Moreover, my knowledge of crypto has been grown day by day.
You should say like this "After merit system launched, I has changed and become better user with better writing skill and better contribution to the forum. No need to hide the truth, which obviously shown in your post history.
By the way, thanks Theymos for launching merit system.

by creating a quality post. but not entirely true because this sometimes makes a quality post also do not get the merit. others consider ordinary account either only or they did not want to give merit then nobody knows.
My simple recommendation for you:
If you simply join the forum to get merits, to earn money; you should leave and choose another appropriate one.
Why? Due to merit system, you will probably can not rank up to high positions which can give you opportunities to join campaigns. Campaigns might tend to stricter and stricter over time.
How to rank up? Contribute to the forum as much as possible. How to contribute if you don't have enough knowledge, skills.
Another question raises up, how to get knowledge, skills? Yeah, it's simple. Stop complaining, crying, making shit-threads; instead focusing on reading to learn, sharpen your skills and spend more time to write more constructive threads.

I definetely agree with cmmhbct. The forum tightens the rules in order to get rid of spammers and hunters for easy money. I think this is right, since this community is not the place to dump any garbage in the form of unconstructive and unreasonable posts. Bitcointalk is the place for those who really want to understand the phenomenon of crypto currency and share their knowledge and skills with other forum participants. Signature and bounty campaigns are just a privilege, a chance to get some money for your participation. But this is definitely not the purpose of the existence of this forum. So if you want to get merits, improve your skills, read more and write about crypto-currencies. If your efforts are appreciated, people will give you a merit.

I have seen a lot here who deserve to get merit based on their quality posts however due to thousands of posts being posted regularly and the limited amount of merits to be given the outcome is most of them very rarely get even a single merit. Coupled that with the selective tastes or possibly whims and caprices of some individuals you're left with something like being stranded on a desert waiting for a few droplets of rainfall. Oh well, it seems like it's much easier to win a lottery rather than to get a tiny slice of merit. Probably a statement that is quite exaggerated but it's just what's creeping in the deepest chamber of my mind.

Earning merit isn't easy for three main reaons:
First: you must be active by publishing worthy posts with good contents.
Second: never be negative, be positive try to motivate peopole always look at the positve side, respect people opinions, be positive even if you don't share the same point of view.
Third: people are from diffrent backgrounds , they have diffrent opinions so they will give you merit if you respect their opinions by stating a proper post with a convincing content.

Been inactive for awhile and I was pumped up to rank up my member status from Member to Full Member by increasing number of my posts. When it meet the requirements, I was surprised that we need additional Merits to rank up our position. I think it is really good to eliminate negative posts to help the community growing up. Now the question is how to increase Merit? Is Merit trading allowed?
Nope, technically speaking it is not. But, black market is out there ruling the black world with its strong influence. You just need a lot of money lol

I have seen some posts under this section wherein several trusted members do not condone 'merit-trading'. You need to understand that the merit system was implemented in order to substantially decrease the number of post spammers and trash threads by limiting members from ranking-up based on their post quality. Though it may be subjective for one to decide which post may he/she finds qualified, but it has at least affected the forum in a positive light.

The reason on why merit trading defeats the purpose of the system since it tolerates cheating (if that's the exact term). When you trade merits with someone and your post quality does not fit the standards, then you are just simply cheating your way to the top. It totally eliminates the need for one to provide decent posts since there actually exists a way for one to increase their merit without making their post quality decent.

On a side note, under the marketplace section there are some individuals who award people merits based on their post quality. You might want to check it out if you believe that you are qualified to such. Good luck!

Creating quality threads and posts increases our chance of earning merits. With these valuable posts, it also helps beginners like me who are still learning the bitcoin world. But nowadays, it gets somehow frustrating to earn merits because quality posts gets overlooked because of those spam posts.
Nevertheless, trading merits is prohibited, you might get punished for doing so, so beware.

I think of you want to get merits consistently you must really study how the whole Bitcoin system works, and how the rules here applies so that you can help those folks who are seeking for answers or clarifications regarding crypto and Bitcointalk programs. Earning merits is darn hard and progress is painfully slow to impossible; I just hope that some day in the future we could find maybe another system or just improve the merit system to make it fair for every member.

To get merits is to make quality posts. Certainly I will be surprised if merit trading is allowed.
A new trend is starting in meta, where Seniors calls for quality posts where they can review and award merits. Lookout for such opportunity who knows you can get some.
Maybe this one can help this guy. I found it by chance when reading around the forum.

We cannot beg for merits because merits is for those people who give their best by making a helpful thread or by commenting useful and meaningful posts. And good thing it helps to know people who use alt account just for merit farms. So I hope people will now be afraid to do it because it can lead to a negative trust and banning them to join signature campaigns.

"I think it is really good to eliminate negative posts to help the community growing up" I do agree with your statement, I think merit is good for the community, with merit as a requirement to rank up means there no way spam people can rank up easily.
Answering your question how to increase merit? I think the only way to increase merit is to give all your best to make a good post and let the other people do the rest, I think all of the members of this community is a smart people, which is mean if you make a good post you will get your merit from the people who think your post was good and helpful

If you want to increase your merit, you better start and make sure that you will be able to construct quality posts that are definitely helpful not just spam posts. You can read more information about the Merit and sMerit in the "META" section of this forum.

It might be hard to earn merits not Totally because of your capacity to construct quality post or capacity to research and contribute knowledge in the forum, but possibly because of too many spam posts to a certain topic making your own post overlapped by other member so your post gets overlooked. But there are some members here who provide service to review post if it deserves a merit. If you believe that you have made a post that is probably helpful and deserves merit then you can try them to check out if they will accept it or not.

Also beware of merit trading because it is prohibited and you can get punished if you get caught by somebody.

As you know , ranking in bitcointalk thread has been changed after 24th Jan , a new feature called " merit" has been added to profile .What is merit ?
•You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.
what has changed in ranking?
•In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
•This forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
•Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

if you dare to trade merit, lets do it but remember that is too risky. but my advice is better you try it yourself and try to improve the quality of your posts. not just for one thread, you should try for all threads and provide a useful information.

how to get merit, then you must make a post that has the character build, solution, and also communicative.

if your post can help other members to solve the problem, then you will get merit from other members.

so, with merit you will stay continue in your position, or your position will go up to legendary ? merit determines your position.

One way to get merit, with you creating a high quality post, or by creating a useful topic for all users of this forum. it is now quite difficult to get merit, but still for the spirit and do not give up, to make a quality post to get merit.

Merit requires that your post is quality and not meaningless. It is best not to trade merch, because if checked, your account will be banned.

You are right about that because other bitcoiner people is spamming in post that's why they use merits but now other people abuse using of merits because they cycle in donation of merits.

Example:
P1 - P2 & P3
P2 - P4 & P5
P3 - P5 & P6
P4 - P1 & P2
P5 - P3 & P4
P6 - P5 & P1

That is what i learn in my friend that other people use that cycle to avoid to donate each other but to donate by group of people. I think my friend idea or knowledge about that is correct, that our topic tackle when we meet each other. Its possible to happen right?
We just topic about in ranking up and going to merit and he notice of other people doing that thing in his work place.

Is Merit trading allowed?

you must create a post that is sufficiently qualified or at least share your knowledge with all members in this forum. by inviting your discussion, this will get you merit. but I guess it's pretty hard. because until now I also have not get any merit

if you want some merit, you must make a good post.
but still, it not be guaranteed that someone will give you merit.
because it is depends on the merit giver, whether they want to give you or not.

I'm a newbie and it's even harder for a newbie like me to get merits. I've seen some people giving away a merits by joining his discussion and giving the best answer to a question given by them, but again a newbie doesn't even allowed to participate on it. But if you're a member then you would not got a problem I guess

I think this topic does not belong here. To answer your question, if you want to earn merit then you have to post quality and meaningful post that can help other members of this forum. Although I am confuse on how do you define a quality and constructive post. I think it still depends wether your post are eye-catching or just worth ignoring.

The Internet has broken the geographical and national boundaries of information dissemination. Freedom of information has greatly promoted the development of human economy, politics, and culture. Bitcoin will further break the barriers to finance and value transmission based on national boundaries and have a profound impact on the world. You can slowly upgrade Bitcoin levels by helping people get valuable suggestions by providing valuable suggestions...

Merit trading is fine as long as you give merits to valuable posts. However, it is extremely difficult to gain merit. I don't think this regulation will provide convenience to new members. It's kinda unfair that earlier members ranked up less difficult and the new ones won't be able to rank up as easily as the previous ones.

First of all, you have a topic in meta, all about merit. Second, you can also notice that the "merit" on your profile page is clickable and you can find some information as well. Now, you earn merit by creation quality posts, but that doesn't mean that yiu should force yourself to write quality posts about topics you don't know. Just stick to the ones you, actually, know about.

And please, stop making topics like "how to earn merit", "what is merit",etc... You can find all about in meta section. You're just making, absolutely, unnecessary posts.

Merit requires that your post is quality and not meaningless. It is best not to trade merch, because if checked, your account will be banned.

I think merit is pretty reasonable until after senior member. Getting 250 merit seems impossible. Actually, even 25 merit is looking a bit difficult. I've written some great posts that took me an hour and got 1 merit. But I've also written a few that took me a very long time and didn't get a single merit. In all it will take an incredible amount of time to get anywhere. I think by the time i'm hero member this forum will be closed and everyone will have moved on to more professional venue for information.

Indeed, with Merit regulations it is very inconvenient for us to raise the rank level of our account, to raise account rank, in addition to the active amount we also need Merit, and with you a good post and educate and many people who are interested in your post, and you are given a Merit by another member, with the amount determined by the increase in account rank level.
Nicely said. But if you also earn by helping people out by providing valuable suggestion by replying the threads. If it really helps them members of bitcoin talk doesnt hesitate to give merit to nicely written post.

There are some threads by saying earning merits. For this you need to amswer the questions and submit the urls by posting a comment to that particular thread. The last time i saw there was only 3 merit left. Cause others were been donated as a reward for the riightfull answer to the participant. Go and take a look around. You will find some.
