PTS will always get you a stake in the DAC's provided you own PTS at the time the DAC is 'snap-shotted'
Right now there are 1.65 Million PTS that have been mined, there will only every be 2 million.
You can buy and sell them on exchanges like BTER. Just remember to download and move them to your wallet if a snapshot is happening.
There is no schedule released yet. But we are expecting an announcement after BitShares X is released (already snap-shotted 28/02/14) and after the AGS window closes in 13 days.
This is from their latest newsletter -

Shortly after the final snapshot for AGS, we expect the corresponding PTS snapshots for other DACs to begin to happen at a brisk pace, perhaps monthly, for the rest of the year. This could become habit forming!
Don’t forget to have your PTS out of the exchanges and back in your wallets under control of your own private keys at the time of each snapshot. We ask all developers to give you two weeks notice before a snapshot happens.
• Toast will releast BitShares.p2p
• Hackfisher will release BitShares Lotto.
• Eddie and Cob will release BitShares Music.
• Follow My Vote (followmyvote.com) will release a voting DAC.
• DACs Unlimited (dacsunlimited.com) will release BitShares X.
BitShares X has already been snap-shotted as well as Lotto Shares I think.
- BitShares Lotto hasn't been snapshotted yet though and that is the version BitShares has been developing.
The other vehicle for investing in the DAC ecosystem is AGS there will be 2 million of those too.
They have an IPO that allocates 10 000 a day for 200 days, but only 13 days left. (5000 go to BTC donations & 5000 go to PTS donations) - this how they raise their development money.
The downside is you can't trade these only the shares you are allocated from snapshots, the upside is you get a lot more bang for your buck.

You can check the daily rate of donations there and check your AGS balance by typing in a Bitcoin/PTS address you have donated from.
Hope that helps.
