What you could try is setting your PC to hibernate/sleep instead of power off.  It will use minimal power at that point and is probably your best option.  Most real solutions will cost more than buying a second power supply for the miner.

A PSU with USB bypass power feature directed to a Raspi, with its own network connection and a skit to GPIO that mimics the momentary on/off switch from your front case could work for bringing up a PC that's in the Off state from a remote connection to your network.
This would be if you were trying to find an alternative to using the wake on LAN option provided by Windows.

The biggest outstanding question is- "What miner are you trying to power?" Why would it matter?- well simply put- Some of the newest spec PSU's on the market today DO HAVE the Ability to allow the PC to be OFF while still sending Power to Charge a USB Device. The available amperage is low, 2amps or less. I'm not aware of any Current Mining Hardware that can operate as a Stand Alone Miner with this power scheme.

Since most miners draw quite a bit more than that, I think that's a moot point. I've given up on doing this directly. I'll try it again as I have time through BIoS/Software instead.

It was more of an idea to see if there is a way to get a PC backup running if someone tells it to shut down more or less. The question with the Miner was just a bonus.

What would happen if the PS power-on trick jumper pins were connected at the cable level?

So it is plugged into a motherboard but the power on wires are connected constantly?

I also read somewhere about some person using a resistor to do the same across those wires with success.

Resistor/switch/paperclip are are essentially the same.  And they all work.

On plugging in to computer I would think computer would be powered on and just stay on with just the power jumped.  Look at  philipma1957's he did a good job of showing what needs to be on a switch if you wanted to do this.

Lie down. Have a cookie
The only way would be philips idea.

Other than that I believe it is pin 16 + either 17 or 18 for the PSU to be powered on, how you can get that past the motherboard is a different challenge.

I think were all pretty much on same page that this is not easily going to happen.

What miner are you going to run, and why are you not wanting to use secondary PSU so bad?

'The right to privacy matters'
it is an interesting question and it can be done but cost is too high.

you need a lot of kill switches  triggered when the pc off button is pushed.

And after all power to the mobo is isolated

the psu has to have a 24 pin y cable and 1 part of the y is always shorted on via paperclip.

so the mobo has 24 pin kill switch

a cpu cable kill switch

a hdd/ssd kill switch

a cd/dvd kill switch

oh a gpu kill switch

so 5 cables need kill switches

Sadly your asking to much out of a PSU.   With design on PSU the motherboard power cord will be sending power to computer if psu is on.  I just don't see a way of making it work.

What type of miner are you trying to do this with?

Guess I'll have to look into automatic power on after shutdown, or trick the system to turn on after it's shut off.

Kind of like sometimes I have stupid clients that always shut down a remote access PC/System and I want to make sure the PC always come back on after a shutdown and doesn't stay turned off.

Oh well.

Thanks anyways. I'll try to do it through the OS/BIoS instead.

You cannot have a psu that is both on and off at the same time, you're asking something that doesn't make sense.

LOL. Never said I want it to be on and off at the same time.  Huh

I want to power a PC and miner from the same PS, but if the PC is shut down, I need the PS to be on for the miner to still run.

Thats exactly what you said.

If the Power supply is on, it means the PC turned it on via the 24pin cable. when you shut down a PC, it turns off the PSU via the 24pin cable.
You need to buy a second power supply

Hence the question. How to go around that. I didn't say I want the power supply off. I said WHEN THE PC IS OFF, how to keep the powersupply still on.....  Lips sealed

You cannot do what you want to do.  Everyone has tried to explain it to you several times.  It is phycially impossible.  Use two power supplies.

If you can find a picoPSU-type board that switches 12V and provides enough current on all rails, you can lock your PSU on externally and run both your miners and computers just off its 12V rail.

Note that this is very similar to just buying another PSU, and not as cost-effective.

I'm not sure there's a way to convince a computer to stop running while it still has power applied. You could look into different standby levels in your OS and see what's possible.

if you realllllllyyyyy want to do it your way - youll need to cut every single wire that runs to the PC and put independent switches on all of them. otherwise, even if you turn on the powersupply with a jumper - power would be fed to your PC and it would turn on.
FACTS: 1) PSU on = power in the wires     2) power in the wires to your PC = PC ON      3) PC shutdown signal = PSU shutdown signal

spend the $60 on a new power supply - you cant do what you are asking without serious hardware modification and cutting up wires on your PSU.

Sorry but your second question and the rest of your post turn what you have written into an oxymoron.

Well, then please explain.  Cheesy

I don't like leaving a PC on 24/7 when not necessary. Being in the IT/Tech field I know better than thatShocked Also saves on electricity.  Cheesy

Now onto my original question :
Not looking for the jumper trick to keep a standalone PS running.

What I'm looking for is to keep a Power supply running on a miner, while the PC which is also running off the same power supply, is shut down.

I want to power a PC and miner from the same PS, but if the PC is shut down, I need the PS to be on for the miner to still run.

Any ideas?

Not getting into a comprehension contest here, but where do I say I want the power supply to be on and off at the same time?

If you read carefully, you'd notice I said to keep the PS , even though the PC which is running off the same power supply is .
Never saying anywhere I want the power supply to be ON and OFF at the same time.

Now please, unless you have an idea or way to do this, move on. This was a question about finding a possible solution to my needs, not about why I want to do it.

Thank you.

well you kinda said it, because you want if off when the miner is on, which mean that the psu should be on for the miner and off for the pc...and it doesn't make sense at all

just buy another psu if you don't want to run the pc all the time, or try sleep mode/stanby

Why would you shut down a PC anyway? Just put it on standby or low power mode. PSU should still provide some juice to keep a miner going.

I really do not see a possible way for that to work. The second you jumper the attached PSU it would fire up the pc, and when you kill the pc it stops the miner. Just get a cheap 2nd PSU is your only option.

I don't see any way of getting around this.  You could cant really do the jumper trick since the PC needs the motherboard plug.  I think only way is to keep PC on at full times to.

Also what miner are you trying to power?
