Making a FB group = Managing a teamwork = being a Leader...
So, the most important thing to wonder : What are your goals and perspectives (what you want to do with this group) ?
In general, Groups of FB are here to make actions and/or to share a common information for people who recognize each others...
But, for fun and general informations, FB pages can make the deal...
So, think on what you want from this mass of people to achieve after a period of time and be sure to make a progressive common goal that gathers them and makes them engaged to participate at each connection...
Joke : In my country this common goal is "being like Japan"... So, Good Luck for you Japenese Grin

The only way you can motivate them is by offering incentives for top poster of the week and something like quality poster .....that should get the ball rolling

make some issues or question to invite them all in. And the topic should be interest the member.
Also, the promotion or contest idea is good. but it will take some effort or cost maybe.

Tell them the pros and cons of posting. That it might help to influence or inform someone that it will be beneficial not only for their self but also to the group. Let them know and feel that the group cares and appreciate them by liking or commenting that might boost their personality.

Do a contest of some sort, like, for the best quality post, they may win an action figure.

I want your personal opinion on this one.We have a group on facebook Dedicated to anime and japan  in our local town. There are 530 Members and we are gradually rising(Yeah thats a lot for us)
But recently i have seen a decline of posts and  it worries me. although people do come in the meetings regularly (around 20-30 people everytime) , there are not so many posts.
What should i do to motivate them? i am sure i will be familiar with the most answers. but  you never know.
