There are amateur hologram kits available for sale, I think I read about it somewhere. It seems very tricky to make a good hologram though.
These are great for gifts I guess to friends, but other than that it's just a cool thing to have I guess
How to make your own? You don't.
When I looked into it I found a bunch of generic ones on ebay. Some of those guys though, offered to make custom designs. You might have to buy 50 or whatever to make it worth their while though.

That doesn't make sense. If you buy a generic one, I can buy the same and tamper your coins.

Exactly this. It costs a ridiculous amount of money to actually get a tamper proof hologram.
