the safest way is with a long term investment. risk of loss karean fluctuation is very small. However, the results obtained from crypto development annually will be very large. but the most important thing is to do research and analysis of the first altcoin to be used for investment. for so will certainly get to know altcoin can survive or not.

Well, there are several importan factors:
- The product and the idea behind the coin/token. Is the product needed ? Is it solving a real problem ? Will it be used in the next 5 years ? The next 10 years ?
- The team behind it. Can you see the team ? Who they are?  Do they have experience in the field? Do they know what they're talking about ?  Anonymous team means 95% fraud.
- Competition! Do they have a direct competitor? Are the ahead of the competition? Are they providing something that the competition isn't ?
- Roadmap. Is their roadmap clear ? Are their goals short-term or long-term? Will something important happen to the product in the next months, the next Q ? You can learn a lot for a coin by its roadmap and the way you interpret it.
There are many more factors and you should always do your own due diligence and you shouldn't trust everything said on the internet, but if there's an issue with one or more of the mentioned factors it's a big red flag and you should proceed with caution.
Hope this helps !

So far altcoins have brought me the best returns, but as the time goes by, more and more scam projects appear and it becomes more difficult to distinguish good projects from bad ones. What is your strategy, how do you filter these few satoshi coins?
I have found several articles, for example, https://steemit.com/altcoin/@utuku/checklist-before-buying-cheap-altcoins but sometimes I still feel uncertain and would like to hear more suggestions and opinions on this.
Much better if we invest on the almost reach the hard cap as it has bigger chance that it will go on exchanges. Although it has still risk but in a lower as compared to those not getting the softcap. Research thoroughly on there background of team and the white paper will also help.
Research carefully before investing in altcoins. You can interact with any guy who is already in the market and trading in altcoins. YouTube and search engines help a lot in picking the right card. Besides, your past experience will also guide you in making a decision. Sometimes the sixth sense works faster than any other. To bit a more scientific, dig out data before investing as data will never lead you on the wrong way. This will help you minimize the risk.

The most important you need to do in investing ico:

1. They have live webinar, so they have a chance to publicise their identity.
2. Fast answer when you have a question even in telegram or in their email support.

I think you shouldn't put eggs in the same basket but also you shouldn't use too many baskets. 4 or 5 altcoins is the best option to minimize risk because if you invest too many altcoins you cannot follow all of them and cannot make enough research for them.

My strategy for investing in altcoins is that I make my own research first. If I my research is not enough to prove that a certain coin is profitable in the long run (I'm a long term trader), I will ask opinion of others. You can ask people you knew who are very siccessful in this industry or you can ask directly on this forum. Aside from that, I also take into consideration about how the price of the coin moved in the past.

To filter the good projects from bad ones, the best approach is to read and learn about the project itself, go to the official website, read the whitepaper and the road map, see if the project has a use case or a solution for any specific industry, look for the development stage of the project, if the project is still in an early stage it is not good. It is also important to see what people has to say about the project as reference, and what has been the performance of the price during the time, pump and dump coins are not reliable, instead look for the projects with less drastic fluctuation in price. It is not easy to find a good project to invest so take your time and do your own research.

These are the most common suggestions to avoid fake ICO to minimize the risks:
1. Review the CEO and staff members back ground if they are really a legit persons that they have really a good performance and performance of handling a project. You can do the research using the google.
2. See to it that their projects is really exist that their commodities are feasible for the masses so that it will attract more investors.
3. For bounties - The bounty managers should be known and respected persons because they will research well the projects before handling it because their reputation is at stake.

You may need to spend some time reading more about the details of the project. For example, the website, roadmap, what the coin is for, what makes that coin special. But there is always risk, so I tried to not participate in ICOs. Only bounty and airdrops.

This is very sad, but this is how it works, i think that most of us does not even take in consideration how much important is to make a deep research before investing.

The opinions of staying analyzing keep observing, the deeper you analyze the more knowledge you get. learn first before you invest, how the system and portfolio history of previous work,
how the future of his project,
if you only get additional income you can follow bounty project as much, but all there is in your hand, spirit and success always

Well, basically I assume the OP did everything what you said, since he mentioned that he already made several profits from alts. He just want to hear something that he has not done yet which is an effective strategy to atleast minimize the risks.
In such case , I can say experience would be our greatest guidance through out in every steps to our investments that can minimize the risks. Risks is always there, no one can ever be certain in this field.

Deep understanding and spending more time searching for a good one. Asking it from other people isn't enough, although it could help to have priorities which one to look first but we have to do our self personally. Because people around have different ideas and speculations, it only give you doubts which one you have to choose.

The best way is to make a thorough review about the team and their plan for the project. If the project is too good to be true, most likely it's a scam. However, it's really hard to tell which is a scam and which is legit, since recently there are really promising projects that turned out to be a scam after it's successful ICO.
Everyone should be more careful when choose to invest in an altcoin, They need to be smart when he starts his selection. Every successful investor is already had a suffisent knowledge about this field. Searching about people review is very good too, but you should carefully read the whitepaper and make some decisions when you decide to invest, sometimes it's too hard to find the scam ICO even for the experts, so you don't put all your money in just one project, try to spread your investment in differents project.

the first way to avoid useless risks is to study, you can't think that cryptos are a magic way way to increase your money, you have to study and select only the valid projects between the 1500 cryptos that are in circulation. look at the project, at  the team and at the community to have an idea.

Diversification!

Go for a diversified portfolio with large, medium and small cap coins and with some potential ICO tokens. Large cap coins are best for long term Hodl. Medium cap coins usually have wide acceptance and utility. But choose wisely. With small cap, go for very short trading or day trading. ICO tokens again for long term. This way you can efficiently do risk and capital management.

To minimize the risk or to choose best altcoin is based on research on the coin and deep dive on the trend, market cap, back up team etc should be validated. I think you should deep dive in to the coins each and every point of positives and negatives observation. Initially you need to invest a low amount to verify the profit or growth in the specific coin and then need to invest more and more once you feel it is successful.

In my opinion, a person needs to understand this fact that new projects won’t be as good as the old ones even if they have a strong team and cool features because the digital market is full of crypto coins and ICOs but only few are ruling the whole crypto world since the beginning and these are the best ones. Among them come Ethereum, neo, Litecoin, waves, Monero, Ethereum classic and ripple so far.

To minimise risk and get to invest in a good altcoin, what you need to do is to not go with some unnecessarily shilled coins or try to chase pump and dump schemes. Go all in on what you think the coin can provide as a technical solution to some problem that you deem significant.
For example, have with smart contracts you can have custom code that runs atop the blockchain given some criteria. With privacy then you have untraceable transactions. With proof of stake you have delegation of mining to some nodes thus reducing on mining power. With failure handling and partition tolerance as in Multiversum you can have the blockchain resilient to larger failures.

I think that there is no need to reinvent the wheel. As a rule, each exchange exposes rating coins in the first place. Therefore, if you look at the top ten, it will be a very good choice for investment.

Look at the project and see does it have a need for blockchain and tokens. Next look at the team and roadmap. If it looks fake probably it is.
A lot of projects dont have sense and it is not hard to distinct them right away
Aand after that , you need a good skill on money management , otherwise things won't run as planned , no profit but a nightmare and confusing moment to keep buying or just release all of them by sell it all at once.
Taking Risk always be a vital part , have something to improve no matter in technique or just knowledge would be helpful. For example when you really know what is happening in ethereum lately , know the factor causing a sudden pump with clear data you'll go allin to take that risk by buy it as many as you can.

I have found several articles, for example, https://steemit.com/altcoin/@utuku/checklist-before-buying-cheap-altcoins but sometimes I still feel uncertain and would like to hear more suggestions and opinions on this.

You can actually reduce the risk up to 0%. With enough research, you can know which coins are going to have a future. And you actually did the right thing like reading articles to know which projects are scams. Anyway, if you want to be sure and don't put your money to waste, just invest on top coins that have a low value like Digibyte and XRP.

Depending on which market we use to choose which markets are the best option every day, exchanges like bittrex and poloniex have very strict requirements for new coin inputs so we can feel safer and more comfortable, unlike yobit and random market decentralization in inputs coins, lots of scattered coins and we have to start avoiding them.

there are several ways and you can note the concept of the coin. Do not forget to pay attention to Market coins. it is important that more and more marketplaces are receiving the coins longer and longer, and the last is to notice Supply and demand. because the more supply the price of altcoin will jatoh on the other hand if more and more of the coin will be the price will move upwards.

Having working products and the known team can at least save us from scam for there are names that are at risk if ever they tried to cheat their participants, but we should still give chance to newbies just keep updated on where about and do research on how they can make the project successful. Since there are good projects that are ideas of beginners that we should give a try.

you should embroil your self into ICO its mean that deep learning about the project is needed, understanding where the project is going, knowing exactly how is the project running, identifying the team and developer behind the project also helping so much to make a decision, the function of token will bring you more interest to the project, take a deep attention to the community behind the project if you find early adopter dont think twice, and you have to see their roadmap also if it make a sense it will bring you more benefits to be an investor of ICO.

Also you should check their team and if the have a live or pictures from some seminars holding the banners of their coin logo. Check whitepaper too.

Well, the one thing that applies to all investments, not just limited to altcoin is that you need to do your research beforehand.

Is the team legit? What are they promising? Is what they are promising really something that is realistic and practically needed in the crypto market these days? These are all questions that you need to ask about a project before you invest.

To minimize risk for your portfolio, the best thing to do is to diversify. Don't put all your funds in one investment, that is just dumb.

Only choose the major altcoins, and it will be solved your problem.
If you are feeling doubt to choose which is best in your opinion and major altcoins become the best thing to minimize your own risk.

It less on the risk compared with the middle or low tier of altcoins.
Analyze the team, Business and many more become your responsibility to get the best altcoins.

For me everything is based on your decisions and it is just up on you, thanks to market observations you will be able to just pick a good coin and decide if it will be a good decision or not.

Read everything about the coin you planning to invest because the price will move easily especially when news hits that coin. Buy top 5 altcoins so the risk will be minimized but of course the profit will still not guaranteed since even a good coin will fall hard.

I mostly choose altcoins that meet the following criteria:

1) Recommendation by others that I trust

2) Are ranked in the top 100 in market cap

3) I have done some research on them and the project seems like it has potential.

On rare occasions I will choose a coin or token outside of the top 100 but I won’t put a lot of money into it.

you should know the exchange rate of cryptocurrency depends on the law of supply and market demand. The buyer can set the expected price, as well as the seller. A buy-sell deal will happen if you find the middle price.

The only way to minimize risk is doing extensive research. Leaning about the Alts that you wanted to spend your resources with is very important. Reading and understanding the whitepaper, background of the team. the feasibility of the project and what project it's going to solve.  You can also invest half of you money in major coins and half on ICO's.

Yes of course, before investing into a project i am always talking to the support to see if there is more information that we can hear about.. Also, checking the whitepaper with much more attention than normal is good enough.

The given information is quite educative for a start up in investment to a new altcoin, but I really prefer altcoins which is known tpand has lot of investors because it is win win, I have tried looking upon som ICO project and I don't want to fail so better for me to wait and trade if it gets listed, I don't care if I doesn't get the early bird bonus but I just want to be assured that my time should not be wasted waiting for an ICO project to be listed and fails to finish the race.
We do have the same behavior when it comes to investment on where I do only tend to purchase tokens when they do hit up on exchanges and I don't like to invest while they are still on pre-sale,main sale or whatsoever because we wont even know if they would able to hit up on exchanges or not which means the risk factor on losing out money would really be high. Minimizing risk would really be depending on your awareness into your actions.

For me everything is based on your decisions and it is just up on you, thanks to market observations you will be able to just pick a good coin and decide if it will be a good decision or not.

To minimize a little the risk, you can choose to invest only few money.
Or do bounties at Bitcointalk. It is the less risky. Or use faucets.
You need also a lot of luck.

If you want to invest on top rated altcoins in the market. There is coinmarketcap for you in that you can easily able to check the all best projects in the market mate. Each and every coins have own platform to invest the money and their coin value goes bigger upon the demand and circulation on the market place. We do not worry anything about it.

If you want to invest on any ICO, that time only you need to check the white paper, developer team information and etc...

To choose the best altcoin, it will just required some simple and basic knowledge about them. So you won't invest in a trashy projects that's no good in the future because most of the ICO projects just want the investors money and they they're ready to dump their tokens once it hits in the market. So it is better if you go through all of the teams and the projects white paper.

Look at the project and see does it have a need for blockchain and tokens. Next look at the team and roadmap. If it looks fake probably it is.
A lot of projects dont have sense and it is not hard to distinct them right away

1. Do an extensive research on google before buying any new coins. Read it's technical white paper.
2. Make sure the project is properly funded.
3. Check if they are listed on exchanges and coinmarketcap.
4. Don't buy a coin/token that's too early in the development stage.
5. And finally just be wise and diversify. I use Hexorr.com to manage and grow my investment portfolio.

Hope that helps.
