There are often times when we need the courage to stop worrying about what society might think.

It may be marrying a person from other race, religion when the society you live in is very conservative.
Or it may be you taking a career step or a profession which is stigmatized in the society as lower category jobs

In these distressing times, people get into depression and many a times take extreme steps including suicide be

Point of correction OP, the title should have been "How not to care what the society thinks".
Worrying about what society might think about you should be less important to you if really you want to grow in the career, jobs and profession for which you want to become in your life time.
It is only when you take what the society believe as contrary to what you think into consideration that you will be depressed and start thinking of committing suicide which I believe is not the solution to your problem.

it is necessary to carefully preserve one's own freedom of choice and thought and not to care highly about what people, society thinks about it, nobody should judge others but commit time (which is precious) to seek their own well-being and their own happiness...

The most interesting people are those who are true to themselves and don't take much notice of what society thinks. Depending on your personality, it can be difficult to be like this. But if we only have one life, then doesn't it make sense to be your true self for that life? It must be awful to be on your deathbed and look back on your life and think: I lived and thought as society wanted me to live and think; I wasn't myself.

I don’t think it’s even possible to neglect society. It’s a nature of human being they try to imitate and emulate others. They try to adjust themselves according to society which some times create problems for them. One can not change ingrained nature. If someone looks on us continuously we become curious why he or she is doing this.

I don't see why you should neglect society, what is the definition of society exactly? Should you neglect your parents opinion? Your friends? Aren't they also ''society''? Who is society?

Minding your business and staying within the law is more than okay. if you aim to please everyone(society) you will eventually end up displeasing yourself. Endeavor to put your happiness first

I think at first, there is too this removal of one own hypocrisy, because before being really in a DGAF attitude, there is a lot of compromises or lies... once it's full on DGAF, at least everything is more real, internally and externally...

I think it leads to an improvement in quality over quantity...

and don't forget the universe adapts too... more honesty, more you, more reality... or challenges, who knows...

You have to keep in mind such thing "This is my decision and if i'm choosing to follow my decision, I will take all results bad and good". You have to do what is best for you, not for someone else.

Sometimes caring how you come across, what others think is a sign of having some self awareness. So it should not be looked as a big negative.

Not giving a fuck what anyone thinks about you is having true freedom.

ok, but how about what people think or not about you as a person or your action but about other matters.

For example how not to care about what they think of global warming or some kind of obvious political manipulation which they can not see?
This is the most frustrating thing. I will take the global warming as example.

There are people out there which cant be educated about this topic they simply refuse to hear the simple science arguments, they just cant be convinced.
You can say that fuck them, but isnt this our responsibility to educate them?..

The main reason why we worry too much about the society that we lived in is because we are afraid of being judged but that is just life and no matter how are we gonna think about it its the reality even if it is not fair.

Giving your self such freedom is the easiest way to accept their judgement. As long as you know your limitations and you are not hurting somebody then you shouldnt be afraid

All that being said. The individual is the only one who can change society. Any positive changes we evolved to  has come from the brave souls that dared to,  and in fact, insisted on living their truth, and making the changes in their life, to follow and fulfill their dreams.

But trust yourself as to how to go about that.
First stay safe and follow common sense, but don't give up your dreams either. Do research on people who have done what you want to do. Or a close approximation..

Also it's easy to forget how bad things uses to be and how far we have come in society.. Well in some places.

I agree with pretty much everybody here because I live in a place you can do whatever you pretty much want. Thank Goodness! And I am always an advocate and cheerleader for people to follow their hearts and do what they want.

But if you live in countries and/or societies where they have very specific rules in their culture, its not so easy to do or say what your truth is, and the consequences may be too high.

An example is a client told me in 2005 that when she was going to college in Boston, a few years earlier, that she gotten raped and became pregnant. The young woman was from Japan. She didn't tell her family in Japan anything. She said she ended up having a miscarriage but she still did not tell anybody in Japan anything.

She had been making progress with the therapy and said she felt stronger and she wanted to share her experience with the group.  She shared her story and it was very cathartic and healing for her and she received lots of group support. Everything was going well.   But there were some women there that started to encouraged her to tell her family and they would understand and everything would be fine.

Clearly, they did not know the Japanese culture. My client had already discussed with me in private, the dire consequences of ever sharing anything with her family. Now, these well-meaning ladies were pressing her and saying she needed her families support.
Fortunately, there was one older Japanese lady in the group also and she jumped up and started yelling. She clearly told the group under no circumstances could the girl ever tell her family because then they would.e expect her to commit suicide.  For the honor of the family, it would be her responsibility to set things straight my doing this.

The group was astonished and in disbelief but the other Japanese woman assured them this was true in the now.

That's an extreme case but sometimes you do have to go somewhere else to be free.

Many countries/cultures have strict and complex cultures and if the rules are not followed there are heavy penalties and social pressures. There is the shaming and isolating if not physical threats which make it hard to live the way you want.

Even here in the U.S. Gays have often moved to other cities where there is more tolerance so they can live normal lives without harassment and where you have support from others.

Often that is not the family.  It could be, some selective members of the family might support you,  but more often not. If whatever you want or are is contrary to the culture then usually the family is of no help because they are caught in the same net.

So find friends, and then move if you can. If not, get a good network of a few trusted friends and/or work on your dreams quietly and persistently. And as you get stronger in yourself you will care less about the society and /or will be able to face those consequences and deal with them.

Constantly expose yourself to situations you care too much about..

Hopefully you'll care less about it.

To some extent you should care though. It depends what you mean when you say society. Are you referring to social media influencers? Then sure, fuck them, however I'm sure you care what your parents think, your friends think and your idols think, those are also part of society, aren't they?

Just move to a bigger city.
If you live in New York, you can do whatever you want and nobody will care. There are so many freaks and weirdos out there...

If you have a fear of what people will think, moving to a bigger city will make things worse.
This will happen, because there are more people who are going to be moving around so the people will start caring about what more and more people will think of him.

By doing what you want. Without considering what would other think, just yourself only, what you really wanted. You can do it as long as you are not a harm for to someone. A reasonable harm, not just because of jealousy. If that's the reason, continue on your stuffs What it take is courage, at first, you'll be judge, because no one will really understand your idea. So you have to endure criticism until such time they get used to you and everything you seems normal to them. They will not have much more to say.

No one should care about what society thinks, but it's not an excuse to be an outlaw anyway. The streets are full of people who don't care for what society thinks: they are stealing, bullying, dealing drugs, frauding and so on.
There are often times when we need the courage to stop worrying about what society might think.

It may be marrying a person from other race, religion when the society you live in is very conservative.
Actually there is an inversion nowadays: on many places the conservatives aren't respected because their lifestyle while libertine behaviors are encouraged.

Depression is a serious and sad to say that there were lives that has been taken due to what the society thinks of them. They seriously are taking those words and what the society tells about them.

It won't be easy for someone who's experiencing depression due to this just to ignore them. It will take sometime but be strong and courageous enough to show that you don't care what others think of you because you don't even harm them.

It may be marrying a person from other race, religion when the society you live in is very conservative.
Or it may be you taking a career step or a profession which is stigmatized in the society as lower category jobs or dirty e.x. : a pornstar, nudist model or running a beer shop.

Or it may be to tell the world that you are gay/lesbian when the society around you is very religious and might frown upon you to an extreme extent if not kill you.

In these distressing times, people get into depression and many a times take extreme steps including suicide because of this pressure from society.

What do I do when I think about society?
Society is a mere group of below average thinking humans who derive their morals from religious or just merely what they have heard from their own parents.

But the best thing is, they are nothing but a collection of electrons, protons and neutrons.

And atoms are 98% empty, hence they are 98% empty.

So, my friends who get depressed due to society and others, just know, they don't matter, they are 98% void, they are empty, they don't even have much weight.

This is what I think about even if it sounds a bit far fetched but it's a fact and reality too Smiley

in an urbanised world we all will be swimming in "society" so it will be defining how good you filter important from unimportant things

Following you heart is the best way to live in this society peacefully. Many cultures and religions has enslaved human happiness and dignity and it is time for us to start using the conscience and intuition as a guide for living instead of allowing what other people think or what our society believes to determine how we live.

Stop overthinking and do what you want.
If you overthink about what people is going to think then you have lost this game. Just not give a damn about them.

If you want to be like something then be something don't just care about what people think about you because there is always someone who is going to to criticize about all the things we are doing, just take those criticism as positive thoughts and just move on forward about your life goals.

Just ignore those people. Do whatever you love.
Everything for them is 'big deal'. They don't appreciate what you did if they saw some actions that they don't like. I know a lot of people which is everything, just what iamsheikhadilyou said above, everything matters for them. I just f*king ignore them, hell yeah.
