To be honest, you should have a balanced portfolio but when the market is bearish and not when the market is bullish. If you try to balance your portfolio when the market is bullish, you might miss out the chance to make good money. In a bearish market, you can think about addition of certain coins to your portfolio and they help to reduce the risk greatly.

What if you hold a shitcoin when you're in a bull market and miss the 10x run from another coin?
I think portfolio management is important whether the market is good or not. If you're in a bear market, your risk decrease. If you're in bull market, the chance to get more profits from various coins also increase.

I appreciate all the great discussion on portfolio rebalancing! We are currently working on implementing new rebalancing features for shrimpy.io and would love to hear what developments you guys would like to see. We have a lot planned, so I'd also be happy to answer any questions you have about how it works.

What have you planned so far? We'd probably be able to give new ideas if you tell us what kind of plan you have atm.

Thanks for asking! We are currently working on the following features:
- Threshold based rebalancing
- Improved Indexing strategies, so you can have better control over your personal index fund.
- Better social features so our community can grow quicker, become more engaging, and interact with each other better.
- Better strategy backtesting features so everyone can get deeper insights into how their strategy performs over the long run.
- Smart order routing trade execution for our portfolio management application so you always get the best execution price.

Let me know what you think!

Thank you for asking! Yes, the example does calculate the value in terms of USD, however calculating the value in BTC or any other currency results in the same rebalance. The currency which you use to calculate the rebalance does not change the results of the rebalance.

Yes, this article specifically discusses rebalancing a cryptocurrency portfolio. So, moving one cryptocurrency which is over allocated to another cryptocurrency which is under allocated. It essentially leads to buying low and selling high because you sell some of the assets which performed well for the assets which performed worse.
For what I did understand it would only be really profitable (worth the time) when we are talking about a considerable amount of money / crypto involved but for some traders with a low volume it would not actually change a thing.. did I get it right?

I don't really think that most of the traders are using Rebalance in their crypto portfolio ,
Most of us just wants to gain profit and profit only so this rebalancing isn't really a thing for most of us,
There are some of us who would really like it since it is lessening the risk of losing money in our investment.
I have barely seen anyone who tries to rebalance their portfolio. I mean the first thing we all want to do in the crypto market is to make money and that is always the first priority and not spending time rebalancing the portfolio. There are people who have just Bitcoin and no other coin and they still try to make money in it so portfolio does matter and make you more money however if you focus on diversification of portfolio, the prospects of making money simply rises.

I don't focus on rebalancing my portfolio. As for me, what important is we're able to determine when's the right time to sell and to buy. A real trader usually focuses on the prices to gain a good profit.
Focusing on portfolio couldn't increase our profit.

If you are a traders no need to rebalance your porfolio because you come to trading industry to gain profit but I apreciate what OP did but if you are long term holder its good to rebalance your account but for me as a trader no need for that becuase profit is most important.

Regular stock market gurus are almost always against rebalancing. They do not sell one thing to go buy another, they usually sell in order to take profit thinking they got the most out of one thing but usually most hedge fund managers do not sell something that is going up, if its profitable and its making you money then keep it and do not drop your position with it. What you need to do in this scenario is not rebalancing by percentage but by fiat value.

For example, if you have 4 coins with total balance 100 dollars and 25 dollars each, if one goes to 30 dollars keep that, don't sell it, just buy the coin that drop to 20 dollars and add another 10 bucks to it so you have 2 coins that are 30 bucks and your total value is increasing as well, if you can't afford to do that then just keep it still without moving any around. Never touch a coin that is profiting you and move it to something that is not profiting you.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks!

I guess the whole point of the post is to shill shrimpyapp. Well, I do have some question with portfolio rebalancing, I guess it all focuses on rebalancing your portfolio based on it's fiat value. Most holders aim not just to maintain their portfolio's fist value, but to let their portfolio grow as much as possible by either moving from one crypto to another in ypur portfolio. And also, if you are just moving one of your asset to another just to balance, wouldn't it just cost you the fee tradong one to another just to rebalance your folio. Correct me if I am wrong, or if I got the wrong idea of the article.
