You can and will use MEW with or without hardware wallet but if you reall want to stay safe and secure you must get a hardware wallet. It is the best option for you to sleep at nights with ease.

do people actually sleep uneasily about crypto? share with us please

Hello friends.

I have set up myetherwallet, created the password, private key etc, JSON file, paper wallet. I saved them all on a USB. I used a computer with internet connection. IS this safe, or should I somehow set it up on an offline machine?
are there better alternatives to MEW?

thank you very much.
I think what you have done now is safe as it is. I am doing the same since 2016 and up to date I haven't faced serious problems like my mew wallet getting hacked by others. Just always remember to have a good antivirus at hand and always use the official myetherwallet. Bookmark it and just open your wallet there, you'll be safe that way. You won't need an alternative as is IMO if you just stay careful to not input your private key on phishing site.

If you are removing your USB from your computer and that could be a better way. because your flashdisk will not linked into your computer that means the hackers that spread the malware can't steal your data.
I've used the ext Hard disk and SSD to safe all of my data. and never try to connect it with computer that has active internet connection. A better alternatves from mew you can try to use the mobile wallet.

maybe by doing the security via email that is 2fa verification, will be safe from the hack.tapi i still have not found a way to use it and also i am still in the learning process.

Personally, I consider MEW one of the best and most reliable wallets. So you did everything right. And if you chose a MEW then nothing else is needed

to secure the mew itself is very difficult but it is also very complicated to cracked because our private key could have someone right in guessing. also mew itself has many users who are active in work.

you can store it everywhere you want,  just remember one thing never ever click a spam msg at your email, or strange link at slack. And always make sure when you want to access the website is a real one not a fake phising one

I have a friend who had stolen $ 400 from his wallet, that was because he was very careless and did not even have antivirus on his PC. I have been using MEW for a long time and I have never presented any problem, among the most important things is to keep your computers virus free and not open strange links, in fact MEW recommends that we use Metamask to protect our funds.

Its not safe if you save your files from MEW to USB because there are times that some usb  has bad sector so in the future if you  use it could be corrupted  so beware if you use usb..  and the other thing is using computer wihout antivirus all of your files in your computer is in risk if you are going to online to the internet.. so use antivirus with updated database..
And MEW is enough as wallet to use. .

hi , you allready do a good move there. but that backup if you put it at same computer will be your killer if your computer got hijacked or affected by RAT, so i recommend you to put backup at different device or just put it at external hardrive. And use metamask extention at chrome, mozila, or brave browser, so if somehow you opened a phising site metamask will tell you to leave that page immediatly

I've been using MEW just on its own for a while now, with a chrome addon. Never had funds stolen or anything like that. As long as you keep your browser addons and your actual computer clean i doubt you'll run into an issue.

The thing is really make sure that you keep all your backups safe. A usb is a good start but usually having paper ones and laminating them to make them at least water resistant is a good idea just in case USB fails.

I haven't tried offline MEW but i think it is possible, and for storing large amounts i'll probably go with the actual ethereum offcial wallet.
