Personally, I see no reason to invest your coins anywhere. In fact, you have already invested your money in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Now I would suggest you be patient. You have a very balanced portfolio. Bitcoin is the king of the entire market, and Ethereum is the king of most altcoins.
I see no reason to spray.

I will not subscribe to searching the cmc for the availability of the name because not all coin created are listed on CMC.
I will also not support searching the coin abbreviations on etherscan because name and codes can be different.

My opinion is that you should check the blockchain of the platform you want to use for your token and search the name.
You can as well search for the coin on google by adding xxx coin ann to the search for a better result.

All you need to do is simply Google the name you want to use.  If the name already exists, Google will bring the search. But if the name hasn't been used, then there will 0 result. Either way, you can also use Coingecko or cmcsa to search for the name.

We are creating a new token and want to see if our name we are thinking of using has been used before or is in use.  How do we check this?

If you are using erc20 tokens then you can use this link https://etherscan.io/search?f=0&q= then in the search bar, you can just input the name or abbreviation that you like for you token. Base on the results you can check whether that name has been used already or not.

You can also check here https://coinmarketcap.com/ . Just go to search bar and there will be results once you will input the name that you like. If there are results meaning that name has been taken already.

Well it is very true this way to check if the token is already in use or not. In these two ways we so know what kind of tokens you want to find and the transactions recorded by etherscan.io

Search it on https://etherscan.io/tokens and type the abbreviation that you think which shall be used by your token. If there's no coin that will show under that ticker you have in your mind then expect that it's not yet used.

if you want to search for ERC20 token name maybe you can use etherscan and use search option there
but i just wondering why do you want to use the token name that has been used before?

As other member suggested the most effective way is using a search engine like google to find out if your token name is unique, I also advise you to make a search about what ticker or abbreviated symbol you will use on your token because it will create some confusion from your investors or community members in the future if you have the same ticker with other tokens that is available on the market. good luck with your new project!

We are creating a new token and want to see if our name we are thinking of using has been used before or is in use.  How do we check this?
Most effective way is to merely google it. You will find tons of search results if you add token or coin along with the name you want to choose. Generally you will find duplicate names as that of your project but trust me if that project is not that successful you won't have much of an issue. Most of the projects don't bother about getting copyright much later until they have completed their token sale. Also main problem is that the ticker shouldn't be the same. So you can search for the ticker at Etherscan.io and see if there is some coin with a similar ticker because that can cause problems while sending and receiving payments.

This is the better solution check for availbalibility of the ticker of your coin by searching it in etherscan.io . If you find out that the name you want to use is already use by other project then change it again until you find a good name and you only have that name of that tokens.

Most people suggesting coinmarketcap to find that name is already available or not but what if that already available coin has the same name but doesn't meet the criteria to be listed on coinmarket cap.

We may try google it,which help you to find if that project is in development stage and have an website.

The answer is you just go to the search engine, be it google or whatever and try it. whether the name of the token you want to use exists or not, the easiest way to first do it is to go to CMC or Coingecko, the project rating site can also be like an example on the icobench platform or something like that.

We are creating a new token and want to see if our name we are thinking of using has been used before or is in use.  How do we check this?
There are several methods and I think one of the methods that might work well is for you to search through coinmarketcap, because they have majority of the coins that has even been created, and if they dint have, look for the most popular good exchange and also the most popular shit exchange, search from there to see if you will get your name, if you follow these methods and you don’t find your name, then congratulations to you.

The last method which I think that will also work is when you type the name on Google, you should get history of all the people that has used this name if there is any, then you can check if it is even cryptocurrency related project or not, but wait, you really need to be smarter than this if you want your project to grow, because I dint expect you to be asking this simple question anyway.

Yes, you can just search it on google. You can also add etherscan.io to the name you are looking for if you are creating it based on ETH. So you can easily find out whether the name is used or not.

Also you can search on CMC or on other sites like this, but there are very few coin/token names available on the market.

Not all coins or tokens are listed on https://coinmarketcap.com/ (CMC). There are some that have been minted, given names and are still at their developmental stages.
Also, you did not indicate the blockchain on which your token is. Since you stated that you have token, it means you are on another coin's block chain.
What you can do in this case is to go to the blockchain explorer of that coin (E.g, the blockchain explorer of ERC20 is https://etherscan.io/search?f=0&q=). Others have theirs peculiar to them. You can then type the name of yours on the search engine, then you will easily know if it already existed.
Lastly, you can make use of Google search engine. Although, that will give you names on a general note, but you can use that for general purpose and make your deduction.

Easy to find out if the name is not yet in use, just by search your token name in Google whether the desired keyword appears? If not necessarily the name is not in use.
And you can check here https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ or https://coinmarketcap.com/tokens/views/all/

You can simply just Google it, this would be the most effective way to search for a coin because it would show you tokens that has conducted ICOs or launched but has not listed in any exchange yet. If you wanna check from the list of those that has already listed in an exchange, you could download the CoinStats Application in your mobile device, it's an app that shows all Cryptocurrencies like Coinmarketcap but it would show you a more in-depth search when you use the search bar because unlike Coinmarketcap, CoinStats shows every coin that has been listed in an exchange even if it doesn't meet CMC standard and even if the coin has not listed in a CMC approved exchange, as long as it's trading, it would show in CoinStats, searching is easy, just use the search bar at the top and if your project name doesn't appear after your search it, you should know that it has never been used, atleast by a trading token.
