Since the rules set off a lot of newbies in search of merit, (IMO) make the actual rank up to "jr member" and up as a common vote. leaders of the this forum seem to gather on good-great topics easily.
I could not agree with that the new set of of policy implemented by theymos make a way for some leaders to easily gather good-great topics for even without the policy they are techie and able to provide directly good ideas from each other. These guys here are expert and it would be easy for them to identify and distinguish the good posters here in this section.

As a merit is given, make it a confirmation button show up to it wasn't gift, sold or bought in anyway.
that being said I was ask if i bought mine, in which I did not but could have been gifted since it can not be found in my past post.
You could not accused directly someone here in the forum that they are farming merits, selling and even bought some merits for normally we know that merit is being rewarded for one that is able to impart good things in this forum. Basically, no one will wonder if the merit received was being bought or gifted  by somebody you knew with smerits. But there are some members here clearly buying merits for they were able to receive 20 or more like 50 merits being rewarded. This may seem questionable of course and aside from that posting style may be an indicator wherein some receive merits with shit posting habit.

I got mine basically gifted right after the topic got locked from a "Sr member" who gave me great insight to the problems of the merit system and how it can be a great system.
these are my thoughts as I am currently following the meta topics flowing and buying and selling or gifting of merit
If you think that there are many members here in the forum that does like selling, buying and gifting merit then you should start a thread and post a report with summarize list on BCT accounts on merit farming and merit abuse. You can also start looking in your local boards for those members who do you think that they are merit farming.

selling and buying merit is immoral activity.

One person who is ready to sell merit for money; no body will be able to stop him pressing the confirmation button.  So this way it can not be stopped.

I have noticed after demotion from junior member to newbie; hundreds of such members immediately got one merit.  I am sure all these did not receive one merit for their quality post.  Either he bought or was gifted to them (not all).
Yes, I completely agree with your opinion on this topic. After everyone getting demotion from junior member to a newbie, suddenly most variant change comes in the forum. Most of the newbies immediately get the merits. As I noticed them there is no productivity in their post or that post doesn't look as constructive which has the capacity to get a merit. This kind of incident is a clear indication of merit buying.

They could easily press that confirmation button to all of the users that they've merited and continue with their business.

what if "Sr. member" and "legendary member" are the only ones that got the confirmation button. Or is the integrity of upper ranks just as bad?

I'm so against 1 merit somehow being a difficulty curve that people would resort to buying it.. I would propose that your account gets auto banned after 3 months if you don't receive one.. this is just a silly notion that getting 1 merit is this impassible mountain of unfair difficulty... I think 1000 is a bit steep but looking for black market style solutions over 1?  You have to just laugh.

1 merit is the same price as a copper membership, there's really no reason to buy a merit unless you are slow like the spammers in bitcointalk.

Also to OP, it wouldn't really make a difference as ralle said that they can just press that confirmation button anyways.

If this gets implemented I doubt merit sellers would stop selling their farmed merits. They could easily press that confirmation button to all of the users that they've merited and continue with their business.

One of the best way(imo) to stop this is to have a demerit source but I don't think we'll see one anytime soon since these abusers/cheaters will eventually get caught and ran out of merits.
