No different than bitcoin wallets. All the altcoins I use have the same QT wallet that bitcoin uses.

Well the wallets are pretty much self explanatory on how they work. The only 2 things that you 'll have to pay attention are
1. To encrypt your wallet because in the case of local wallets the keys are stored on your computer
2. To backup those keys because if for example your hdd fails you 'll probably lose all your coins.

I 'm not aware for any specific guides but these links might help you out.

Hello!

Over the past week I have invested in bitcoins as a hobby and have had a bit of fun.  I have only used coinbase as a wallet which seems easy and userfriendly.
I have downloaded a wallet for litecoins and a few others and have absolutely no idea how to use them.  Is there a good place to start to get some info on them?
I apologize if this is a silly question, thanks in advance  Smiley

Use it the same way as coinbase wallet, but instead btc-e or cryptsy

Unless you send coins often, it works for small sums
