Is it possible with the taproot implementation to make NFTs ? I keep reading up about it , but I’m it’s beyond my tech understanding.
I don't think taproot has anything to do with NFT. You should read some articles about it, not all of them are technical. Basically, taproot improves scalability and privacy. While it might help a bit on the scalability/transaction speed if there's a project doing some NFT stuff on BTC, it's not the target.

By using side chains that has smart contract capability like Liquid. You can read more from this topic - NFT's on Bitcoin, why is no one doing this

Indeed, I have thought of that, but that's Liquid, you know? I am more looking for a main chain solution.

With all the hype surrounding NFTs, I find blockchain gaming as the only practical application. It will probably have more long term success than those hyped painting and digital drawings (.jpeg).

I love what Lightnite is doing in this regard: gaming is one of the best application for NFTs, I agree.

That's a serious question: is there a way? How would you do it?

Because of the NFTs hype I have had this question a lot and I've always been unable to answer (something else than "what for?")...

With the current hype of the NFTs right now, you don't want to miss playing just one game to be able to invest for the future because their in-game items might become valuable in the future. Now if someone links it with bitcoin, then that would be also huge cause people will no need to worry about their investment losing its value when time goes by.

Is there any reason why it can be done with color coins: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Colored_Coins
I think if color coins is possible on Bitcoin Blockchain, NFTs on the Blockchain should also be possible.
We could start with basic NFT on Bitcoin blockchain
