I didn't read all of your post, as it is a bit long, but I did notice a few paragraphs, and I'll respond to those with some general comments.

This is an English board, and English is the lingua franca of the financial and commercial world. Even the EU is going to keep English as its primary language after Brexit. If you don't have a reasonable command of English, then you are at a disadvantage, that isn't the fault of Bitcoin Talk, it's a fact of life. Bitcoin Talk is great in that it recognises that many members without English as a first language, can be valuable contributors to the forum, and it has created a number of local language boards for them. It is an unfortunate fact that members with very poor command of English bring nothing to the more serious threads if they cannot be understood. It is even worse if the their attempted post is meaningless spam in reality. I, and some other senior members, have tried to help the more responsible members to improve their communications skills, but unfortunately, it seems that the bounty programmes attract users who are only interested in pushing out garbled messages to display their signatures. I called them 'users' because that is what they are, they are members or even part of the forum's community. They are just here to pollute and scatter rubbish to try to profit from the labours of the more responsible forum members. You only have to look at the lack of interest in concepts such as The Fit to Talk English project to realise how deeply embedded the bounty hunting concept is in Bitcoin Talk, and the lack of interest that its spammers have in the well being of the forum, or in the world of crypto and Bitcoin.

Merit was introduced as a barrier to reduce the potential rewards of these 'users', and it seems to be working. To be frank, if you can't achieve a rank above member in the time it takes to gain the required activity, then you need to question your ability, and your motivation. It isn't the fault of the merit system.

Yeah it is so good. You are the only one not good this time because of nonsense topic like this. I'm so full with that word and please just find another topic that makes me interested. This is advice by co-newbie to not spread spam like this. It is great right?

I posted similar thoughts in a merit thread in the Beginners & Help forum board but I will share my thoughts on merit here as well.
I've found that it's very difficult to get merit here. The system appears to favor people who were already here and established in the Bitcointalk forum when it was introduced (I believe only at the start of the year?).
The system is made of the merit sources and the members of the forum of which the former is also a part of the latter. Everyone who is in the system is a human. Thus the favouring will be there. This is what we have been lacking in the forum for 2-3 years now. People reply to topics without even seeing what others say. We dont care about who the above us is - even though I agree the number of members is also big but still there is not sort of personal interaction through the posts.

Quote
It has ended up creating a barrier for newbies and new people who visit Bitcointalk as many do not receive any merit from the small portion of members who can distribute it.
Punishment for the bounty spammers.

Quote
The system (and merit givers themselves) also favors English speakers or people who have a well-developed English vocabulary. There are much fewer merit givers in the local / foreign language boards and they are much less populated. This has been confirmed by several merit-givers who have created their own threads on this. It's basically a form of discrimination against foreigners.
Get used to it or better yet leave the forum.

I find it quite puzzling that a forum that's been around for years, and based on decentralized networks and cryptocurrency, has managed to adopt and implement a centralized and archaic system of forum rewards that favor a select few. It's both ironic and hypocritical!
The only hypocrite is you. The forum has its problems and the problem of spam control has gone so far that the mods are unable to control it anymore and admins had to take this harsh step.

Quote
I've been here since late last year and haven't been able to acquire a single merit point. I don't have the English barrier problem as English is my native language.
Why do you even need those merit points? So keen on ranking up I see. Roll Eyes

Quote
What makes it even more difficult for newbies and Jr Members is that there is an unwritten rule not to beg for merit... so you can't even ask for it. That will most likely just get you blocked from merit givers or possibly a -1 Trust (?)
Written rule by theymos and the mods in the stickies. Read before you post.

Quote
I honestly think the whole system needs to be rehashed or redeveloped so that everyone has a chance to get merit (or maybe just turf out the whole system altogether??).
The system is working fine. The only thing is we need more merit sources.

What's worse is that it's basically created a black market for people to trade their merit. People are paying for merit. There are telegram groups (and probably other social media groups) set up for this express purpose. Is that really what the system is trying to achieve?

I've been here since late last year and haven't been able to acquire a single merit point. I don't have the English barrier problem as English is my native language.

Report them in the proper format to the respective and they shall be given judgement by DT with a red tag. Provide enough proof as well.

Yes , but  there are many telegramg group.

You idea is so dumb that it denies the existence and objective of the merit system altogether.
May be you have a better idea?

Please work on your English if you want to get merited for your posts (if worthy enough) in future.

If every user get a little merit every mounth , it reduce the number of sales and the kill interest to buy merit.
Every user getting merited every month will mean the same thing that used to happen to the forum before merit was introduced. Ranking up based on post count and thus people used to spam to get ranked up. You idea is so dumb that it denies the existence and objective of the merit system altogether.

Merit is not something to be given out for free. Hammer this idea into your brain.

Let merit sale happen - it will only give the DT more opportunities to wipe out these scumbags who do engage in such sales. Just like account sales. This will decrease the clutter of spam and in turn the legitimate users who try to follow rules will be benefited.

Please work on your English if you want to get merited for your posts (if worthy enough) in future.

The activity system is the driver for upranking in this forum, your suggestion would just provide a second variation of activity. The merit system is not an upranking tool, but quite the reverse. It is a tool to prevent the upranking of spammers and low value posters.

Merit it is a good idea for this forum , but to my opinion not fully considered , many people sell merit its a very bad. i think may be if every user to get merit once a mounth it will be good. Number of getting merit depending of forum rang. For examle: 1 merit for Junior 2 to member and so on. It may be a reduce interest in buying the merit.

I found your post difficult to understand, and had you posted it in the Fit to Talk project, we would have suggested changes such as -
Quote
I believe that merit is a good idea for this Forum, but my opinion is not based on full consideration. The fact that many members are selling sMerit is bad. I think that an alternative to the current merit system would be for ever user to receive a certain amount of merit every month, and the amount could be based on their rank in the forum. This could reduce the interest in merit trading.

To answer your post -

The activity system is the driver for upranking in this forum, your suggestion would just provide a second variation of activity. The merit system is not an upranking tool, but quite the reverse. It is a tool to prevent the upranking of spammers and low value posters.

hi guys i am new in this forum, how do i get merit please help me

Honestly speaking, after seeing the number of posts by you, I thought lets see why you did not receive any single merits (Hoping I will give one if I find a good one).

But seriously!!!

Find me a reason and point out me for which one you deserve a merit please.

Please stop doing such things. You are giving a bad name to this forum. This a community where we talk about blockchain, decentralisation, bitcoin etc. We help each others to prepare for the future technology to make a big difference in the world.

good, with merit, then inevitably the person must make a post that is informative and useful to others so that they can take the rank. If only the post made carelessly until whenever they received no merit and could not rise to the higher rank.

In my opinion it is good in general if the purpose must followed. But you know why sadly I get red trust because of merit that I didn't mean to have it. I did not cheat, I did not copy paste but because of my massage about merit I have red trust now.  Cry

in my opinion it is a positive thing. Because with the merit then at least we will reduce the posting of less quality or spam. And for beginner or newbie like me, I will try to make a useful post/thread and can provide usefull information for all member in this forum to raise my rank.

Is it just me or does anybody else here also thinks that these accounts are made by some account farmer trying to farm these accounts and/or trying to asslick the merit system like the old pajeet shitposters do in general in order to get some merit in a sneaky manner?

Regardless, seeing all these threads about crybabies tell merit is good merit is good - only shows that people are forced to accept it and are now forcing themselves to make some quality posts.

For the higher ranks, yes its good but for the lower rank it's not. For us lower ranks, it's really hard to gain merits. We don't get merits because they don't think that the topic was constructive but you think it was. It depends on the merit source. It's really hard for us lower ranks to make a high quality posts that meets the standard of the merit source
You should not think like, because then your mindset will not be motivated to be able to contribute to the forum. And many opportunities to get merit, I think in this forum many people are smart and professional, so you do not worry when you see your condition is still at a low level. Merit is still growing and now you should be able to do much better to get merit, you just need to contribute and also make a quality post and also useful. Believe that when you do your best then you will get the best too (Merit point).

System merit created to help the development of the forum because some time ago scammers and spammers very much at all, in fact now it has all been reduced. Merit has made many changes much better and we should support this useful move.

Well, I think it really needed to stop the posts like you did on the OP.

Mate seriously (?) to find the opinion you had to create a new thread on the section.

You would not needed the whole lot of time that you have spent to write the OP, if you were looking around just on this meta section for your answers.

We need to shift our focus on something else than merit now.  Undecided

The merit system is working perfectly. Less spam, less shitposts, less megathreads. Now people are not just ranking up to enroll in signature campaigns. They are contributing to this forum for its own sake (Not all of them). In addition, I do not know who gave Theymos the idea of the merit system. But if he came it up on his own, then I salute him. And although many people are still complaining about it, it really is helping others to make good quality posts.
Eventually, merit system will control all spammers in the forum, keep them stucked at their current ranks, makes them dissapointed and might leave the forum forever. At earlier stages after launch of merit system, they complained, cried a lot, but over time they have to accept the fact and have to adapt to survive in the forum, to rank up or have to leave the forum.
That is magic impacts of merit system.

I personally welcome it. I don't know how others would feel. Though it takes time for me to get merits, I am satisfied with the way I post and the quality I give to my posts. I do refer data, sites and other stuffs before posting new thread bit questionnaire . I have changed the way I post. I skipped getting into the sections with Discussions as these said to be spam areas though there are valuable threads.

Agree.
Merit system has both advantages and disadvantages.
If they don't have enough skills, they should learn more, practice more, experience more to become more skilled, more experienced, more knowledgeable. I don't see any reason for hurry to get merits.
Its really hard to get merit for normal person with low skills.
Sometimes high quality threads will earn merits, sometimes they won't. Consequently, please do pay too much attention on merit system. You should do your contributive threads, someday in the future, you will rank up to higher position.
It is very  tough to get merit for good post.

Merit is good and also a bad one. Merit helps the forum for spamming and also for having a good quality posters but the negative effect of merit is farming and abusing those sMerit to their alt accounts. It is very unfair to us, we're just new to this forum and even I am having good post I didn't receive merit.

Do not give incomplete picture here. It is true that some of the members tried to abuse the merit system by giving merit points to their alts but what happened thereafter . Most of these profiles got recognized and were given a negative trust by the senior members. In other words, merit system indirectly helping in eliminating these alt accounts from the forum. I agree that the merit points sent by them got wasted in the whole process and those merits should have gone to deserving members. Consider it as a sacrifice for betterment of the forum.

See the merit abusers who you are thinking are getting into alt account farming is actually being done for the greater good. These account farmers will use their merits to rank their accounts - which can have two possibilites :

1. They will be caught and read tagged by DT. OR,
2. They will run out of merits sooner or later.

The first option will negate those account directly from trying to make any money from shitposting. The second one will actually put those accounts in a doldrums state - because they are inherently shitposters and wont be able to rank up their accounts further. They will remain stuck until then improve post quality and all.

I certainly agree that merit helps the board for spamming. I see that you polluted a thread by spamming and embedding that massive infographic, presumably this was in the hope that you could scratch a bit of merit. The reality is that if you do it too often, you will be put on ignore to preserve the legibility of threads.

I don't understand why people find the merit system here so diffcult to understand. If you aren't intelligent enough to read the main stickies and undertand them, then what chance have you got in understanding anything about the world of crypto,

Also, it is obvious from the complaints, and the creation of rubbish threads about merit, that the main objectors are the newer members who feel that it stops them from collecting money from the efforts of the long term and senior members here.

If you can't comprehend the merit system, and the good that it is doing for the forum, then please leave and get a job as a cleaner or McDonalds burger flipper.

Well to tell you truthfully... I really feel discouraged in this MERIT system they are putting in this Forum... for me it is a big discrimination to low ranking members like us... you deny us the opportunity to earn more and you deny us from being promoted to a much higher rank, I guess all those high ranking members will gonna still gonna receive the highest payment in every Signature Campaign and all of those low ranking members like me will maintain the most lowest payment in Signature Campaign.

You are a Full member and still consider your self as a low rank member ? I am still a junior member and more than happy with my performance here. This might be favoring the old senior rank members currently but with time all this will get even. Also, we may see some changes to the merit system is future and if that happens, the senior rank members who are posting useless posts should be targeted. There can be a rule like if a senior member is not able to get 5-10 merits in 6 months, he will move to lower rank.

I am really disappointed about this merit requirement thing they are putting in this forum... So I could not be promoted anymore because I'm sure that I will never get the required merits so that I will be promoted... no one cares here to give anyone a merit, so this thing merit requirement is just a big obstacle for low ranking members like us to become legendary members just like you! For now low ranking member like us don't have any chance anymore to be promoted one rank higher.
Stop complaining, crying about merit system because you can not change the fact that the system was launched and it will be there forever. You have to adapt to new system and rank up.
Furthermore, I have spent a couple of minutes to look at your post history. What I found is most of your threads are on Alt Discussion, Bitcoin Discussion, and Bounties boards. I don't thinks those boards are good place for you to get merits because higher ranked users rarely visit those boards.
The final point is you should not begging for merits, instead focusing on your contributions to the forum.

I think you are missing something. Merits are being used in a quite a large amount. Just look at the Merit statistics. It is all public for a reason.
Stats: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats

If nobody cared to give merits, this whole system would've been a bust when released. Instead, we see a flood of qualitative posts and people appreciating them.  One great example of one user who has exceeded with merits is nullius. He is a newer member of BCT, yet has 225 recent merit awarded.

I think you just are not looking at the right place.

Remember though, the point of you being on the forum is not to rank up. It is meant to have a good discussion about topics, and gain some new information through it. That is what merits are meant to do. If you are on the forum just to rank up, you might want to realize that that is why merits are not being awarded to you. Please just take a look at your most recent posts. Do you think you would award yourself merits and state that your posts are qualitative posts to be recognized?

I think the merit system is the best think what could happen on this forum. Im on internet forums more then fiveteen years, and i never saw something like this. So many people are just spaming the board the reach a rank or just to have their post done for the bounty campaigns. The poor mods cant handle this amount of spam. When you look at the any new airdrop topic, its a horrible mess. They post the same airdrop 10times with each a ref link even posting ref links are against the rules. So this merit system will stop the spamming and bring back qualitiy post!

For me, I really think that putting the merit points to be able to be promoted is a big discrimination to lower ranking members like me and it is very unfair also for us, lucky for those people who where here long enough I'm sure they got promoted already without any problems and discrimination because there were no merit points during their time and they can easily get promoted no hassle, no problem at all.

What I can say about this MERIT system that they are implementing in this forum is that only the HIGH RANKING MEMBERS are the ONLY QUALIFIED MEMBERS for a HIGHER PAY in SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN, I doubt if these LEGENDARY MEMBERS will even reach FULL MEMBER if there was already a MERIT SYSTEM during those times when they are still NEWBIES or LOW RANKING MEMBERS like us. MERIT SYSTEM are just being made for the benefit of the HIGH RANKING MEMBERS or let me say to those who are already in this forum for a long time. MERIT SYSTEM serves as a WALL that BLOCKS the low ranking members like us to be PROMOTED.

How you guys thinks about MERIT? good? or?
any opinion ?
Good, if everyone in this forum when reading a thread he should also read the comments of the thread. And if he finds a good quality thread and comment post that I hope is he gives merit, which I fear people on this forum are stingy to give merit. With the merit it is expected that bitcointalk users can contribute and provide a good understanding of people who want to know the world of cryptocurrency, as well as a source of world information crypto.

All I can say about this MERIT thing that you are adding in this Forum is that it really makes difficult for a LOW ranking member like me to be promoted to a much higher rank so I could say that this MERIT thing is like a discrimination for LOW ranking members like us to be able to be promoted and reach the highest rank such as LEGENDARY rank. Gaining MERIT is a near impossible to achieve because who will bother giving you a MERIT when almost everybody in this FORUM are busy doing their own thing to finished the assigned task on them from all the bounties that they had participated.

It should be difficult and it's not discrimination. Is it discrimination when people require you to have passed your driving test before you're allowed to drive? No. Now only people who have earned their right to post by making quality contributions will rise through the ranks. Ranks should mean something other than you just made one post every fortnight for a certain amount of time just to become x rank etc. Now ranks will actually be earned by both time and effort as previously it was far too easy for anyone to farm as many accounts as they wanted just by posting rubbish. The system now prevents that. Make great posts and you'll be rewarded over time but if you can't make great posts then you'll probably struggle.

I didn't know what is merit is all about or what is the use of it but i have merit in my profile. Anyone knows what is merit for?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.29774366

Find my discussion in this trend. Meriting Introduction is to scrutinize the forum by reducing or cubing low quality posts in order to boost activity ranks and more like that. Furthermore, to increase/improve the forum standard and encourage every member in the forum to be pro active. Anyway, I feel it's high time we stick to the forum with important ideas of constructive wordings.

Your posts seem like word salad to me.

Why joined the forum but don't have time to read new rules. It sounds terrible! Additionally, the forum is a place for discussing ideas, learning from each other. What are your purposes to join the forum, fella?

Well to tell you truthfully... I really feel discouraged in this MERIT system they are putting in this Forum... for me it is a big discrimination to low ranking members like us... you deny us the opportunity to earn more and you deny us from being promoted to a much higher rank, I guess all those high ranking members will gonna still gonna receive the highest payment in every Signature Campaign and all of those low ranking members like me will maintain the most lowest payment in Signature Campaign.
Well it's too bad the garble-babbling, shitposting, signature-spamming NOOBS ruined it all for you.  There is a very good reason the merit system was put in place, and it's a crying shame it's not convenient for you.

With this new system, it's calling on everyone who needs merit points to rank up to seriously up their friggin' game.  That's the bottom line--you really have to work harder to rank up now, and yes you are at the mercy of other members to provide those merit points.  It's led to what I can see as a big black market for merit points, but some DT members are tagging people who've obviously purchased them or who are sending them back and forth between alt accounts.  I've got to decide whether to get on board that, but I've been chained to the toilet with flu for the past week and have not had much energy for reading on bitcointalk.

I'm still thinking it's a great system.  It's still making me smile.
For me the idea of merit is good it will helps clean the forum from spammers since people will be required to make a quality post to rank up and join signature campaigns but it made me worries because the required merit is quite difficult to achieve since fewer are giving their merits while we our in need this to rank up I hope sendable merit will increase so we can meet our target
This is a good example of a typical shitpost that'll never be deserving of merit.  All a big, garbled, run-on sentence with no punctuation or thought put into it.  Great job, Sofishitposty@@.
Still confused why people keep moaning and crying like a baby. They don't understand, this system is new. And, We don't know is there any changes with this system, so now just do what you should. Agree with you about this system is Great, any reward for quality.

PS. : Hope you Get Well and yah, Flu is annoying Grin

Interesting how defensive you are, given that you yourself went up to the rank by shitposting. Just from this response, you should get a de-merit - may be we should start that too - then you will just have 'L' left from your rank.

This Merit System looks really good on the paper, but it definitely hurts the people that can't spend too much time on the forum and be engaged in discussions, but still use the forum. For instance, I translate stuff and I allocate most of my time on the translations or applying and reading about the Bounty Campaigns etc.

I honestly feel a little lost here. How the hell am I supposed to get Merits as a Jr Member? It is way easier to get them if you are an already established member of the community. I personally fear it will take me a long time to get out of Jr Member, mainly because people would be less incentivized to Merit me due to my already-low Rank.
Take it easy, bro. You have to post at least 60 posts for gaining 60 activities, right? This figure is the minimum to be upgraded to Member rank without merit scores. With merit points, what you need is 10 points, that mean only 10/60 or around 17% of your posts qualified and received merits. That's enough for you, right?

In fact, you have to post about 100 constructive, high-qualitied ones in order to get 10 merits from others, I guess, but it is possible task for you.

Let's go and write as constructive posts as possible.

This information come from Theymos
In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member300
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000
~
Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

I've got over 2,000 posts made in a little over two years. Most of those were made at the start of my membership, and from a desire to further my interest in Bitcoin. I made some controverial posts, and some stupid ones as a result of my lack of knowledge. Did I contribute to the forum? I like to think so because some of the "big names" here replied to my questions, and were extremely helpful and informative. I was lucky because in those days it was possible to have a sensible discussion in the Frog Forum, and beginner's questions were moved to the beginners board. As a result of being active, I've racked up a reasonable post count, and until the merit system arrived, I only needed to make one post of indifferent quality per activity period to gain promotion. Why would 2 posts per month of indifferent quality mean that I should be Legendary rather than just a simple Hero? Of course the answer is that it doesn't.

I'm happy to contribute to the forum and enter into informed discussions, but please give me somewhere to do it. You can help by frequenting the serious discussion boards until the herons get to the Frog Pond, and the thread weeds are closed.

I think the MERIT System is actually a great way to give members in this community an ample time to improve the quality of their posting. I do read a lot although I have not posted anything or commented anything in this forum but I made sure by the time I have something to say I would be able to communicate through posting comments the answer to some questions on this forum. Of course I also want to help out my fellow crypto community members to better understand these currencies because a lot of them really have negative feedbacks and would always tell me to withdraw my holdings in trading.

It was well intended I think and to me it has several pros and cons but I think the pro of less spam on the forums is heavily outweighed by the cons that are now in our current system.

PROS

-less spam
--less bots and farmers
---more quality posting

CONS

-unfair to those who were about to rank up
--merit points not distributed fairly either (distro between ranks)
---merit points not distrbuted fairly amongst same ranks; ie how does somebody with 121 activity and 239 activity get same merit points?
----system is too political now and some may give up after not receiving any or little merits for a while
Well i actually agree with that you, look at my activity it's absolutely near from hero, and it's not fair for people who wants grow their rank but stuck on their merits 400 activity but only get 250 (sr.member) what a.. but show must go on, it's not bad stuck on this rank by the way, maybe next update the sum of merits to rank up will going more small than now, they should think about that.

Beside sMerit there should be another way to get merit points, like 1 merit for every 50 posts, 1 merit for 1 month with 50 posts or something similar, as now it depends only on merit spreaders to whom they want to give merit points.

Currently it is too early to say anything, however most probably sooner or later we'll see the improvements and your suggestion is also good.

Really good point here, I think merit system needs a lot of improvement. It is not good for new members. But to be honest, you won't get any if all you can do is post bounty entries.

... and who decides a "shit" vs "good quality"? It is my opinion, and I have expressed it. It is your opinion that it is wrong mentality, so be it!
The users who care about this forum. If you keep making good posts, you will get merits at some point.

And before you ask what is a "good post", I would say that if you make insightful posts insted of posts whose sole purpose is to increase your activity, you are in the right track.

Of course, I agree with that. Issue is, lots of people who made fluff post went much ahead of me, as I tend to not post if I do not have something to say. I am here since 2013, and it was not my interest to climb up the rank by racking up "activity" or "post count". In fact, when I joined, "post count" alone was enough, as the concept of "activity" came later. So, I definitely pissed off at all the free riders who are "hero member" or above now by doing the exact same thing the "merit" system is intended to prevent. I am also pissed at myself that I should have done the same thing, and now stuck in an unjust way. It is hard for you to digest, I guess.

Well to tell you frankly... I feel really disappointed about that MERIT thing they are putting in this forum... So I could not be promoted anymore because I'm sure that I will never get the required MERITS so that I will be promoted... no one cares here to give anyone a MERIT.. not everyone here are the likes of the Good Samaritan, so this thing is just a hindrance for low ranking members like us to become legendary members just like you! We are desperate, hungry and thirsty to be promoted to a much higher rank but why are you stopping us from being promoted?

I agree. Also this completely takes away the incentive of spending time on the forum, and making general posts. Even if you make quality post, it is unlikely to collect enough merit. It is almost like rich getting richer and poor remaining poor scheme.
Lol that is wrong mentality, do not think merit system will stack you in your current ranked you should know what is the main purpose of this new features of this forum. Make it a challenge to change our way of posting from shit to good quality.

Make it a challenge to change our way of posting from shit to good quality.

any opinion ?
Well for me merit is a good thing that implemented by the administrator theymos, it will make the person here to be responsible to post with value. It is a kind of thing that can incourage the person to do the work with high quality, also since everyone is permitted to give merit to someone's post so all will surely working together as one community here, I am really happy for this one because we will now feel the presence of all.

I guess it was needed to separate the weed, but it personally hurts me. I am a long time member, and now in the mercy of people to achieve next level. I would rather have a more deterministic way to get there - activity is definitely one metric, but blocking promotion based on additional merit collection is unjust. Of course I am biased as I am getting screwed in the process, and I can see tons of hero members who joined in the bitcoin world lot later than me, and are now hero just because they joined bitcointalk at the right time when the activity crap came on.

It is kinda harsh on those that are basically alone here, so to speak. There should be an incentive to spend sMerits on quality posts. No clue on how that could possibly be done, though.

I don't like it too much because of its timing. They should have done this in the month of february. It slows the ranking process of users with quality posts but on the bright side, it filters the shitposting of the majority of the users in this forum.
There might be things that are unfair but this approach by theymos (the forum administrator) is pursuing new registered accounts to post with quality or stay on the topic to remove those garbage posts. But if you'll post with quality and you think it deserved to be merited then you can post in Meta or message me and I'll take a look at it then if it's counted that it contributed and it has quality then I'll merit it. But high quality post will be recognized so if you make one and start it this time, ranking up can be easier.

How? I use my brain thats how. How do you think about it?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you were trying to ask What we think about it and answer that.

Well hopefully it will keep the shiller, bot and spammer accounts away and I think it will highlight accounts that cannot form coherent thoughts so those that have many posts and no merit will be easier to identify to add to ignore lists. So I think it will be a good thing in the end but it will surely get gamed on occasion.

I think merit is good. But Somehow its bad because this merit is the newly  ranking system of this crypto. Even if we are having a number of activity, they create another new ranking system. For newbie its nice i think, because newbie can got a lot merit even if they has no signature campaign. Well for the participant that having a signature campaign, merit can be treat as additional ranking system.

I think it's needed.  You can give merit by clicking the +merit button in the upper right corner of a given post, next to the quote button.  I think once it gets going it will be useful.  The only change I would make is make it a button you could click kind of like a reddit upvote button as opposed to opening another page and then trying to figure out how much merit you have available to give out.  I'd keep the merit limits, just make it easier to give is all.

If someone does an interesting post or provides information that you haven't seen before, which you find useful, just click the "merit" button on the top right hand corner of the post to give them merit.

Maybe it makes the new user like new become a little bit hard to grow the rank to member but I still don't understand what is it for. In my mind I need 10 merit to get to member in addiition my activity. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Where can I buy this MERIT? MERIT to the moon!
No seriously this feature will bring way more quality to this forum. I am not one of the older members but I am still annoyed by this massive amount of useless posts in so many threads here. Hope this will be different now

And how will you feel when you're stuck on 10 merit for the rest of this year? Something definitely needed to be done, but the supply of merit needs to be multiplied by 100 at least or else member ranks won't be moving except for a small minority of insiders on the forum.

but how does merit work?

Next to the quote button you have a new Merit button. There are 2 types of merit basically, one that you own and cannot be lost (for now, at least) and another type of merit called sMerit that you basically give away to others and it adds up to theirs.

I'm also fine with the merit that can reduce the bitcointalk account sellers and reduce bought accounts just to scam people on this forum..
There are lots of abuser and greedy here in forum. So those who made lots of account will be affected even their account are posting small amount every 14 days their account couldn't upgrade just by posting they need to reach first the merit amount according to their activity.

How you guys thinks about MERIT? good? or?
any opinion ?

I guess it needs some fine tuning...but honestly it was absolutely necessary. The forum is grossly congested with cancer posts the like of "great project sir", "when moon sir". Something needed to be done and my honest opinion is that this is a step in the right direction.

Everything new is cool. Also it's nice to see that forum develops.  I didn't still get the idea of merit but I understand that it's a motivation vehicle.

My take on it is that the main purpose is to curve the account farming that's been going on for the better part of last year. Plus a ton of barely literate people spamming threads across the board in order to rank up so as to benefit even more from airdrops and the likes. An english proficiency test should also be conducted when signing up. I'm joking, of course, but sure wouldn't mind something like that.
