Why do people and companies often decide to wait for permission from and authority to change? A brief examination of history shows that changes come when you drag the authorities kicking and screaming to the changes we make. This is how we gained most of our civil rights, for example.

Because the authorities would win the world's worst parent award. They would dangle the ones that kicked and screamed over a cliff until they stopped, or until they got tired and dropped them. Revolution is now frowned upon, despite it being written into the constitution of the US. It sucks, but you want to do business, you have to play by "the rules".

I can do penny passthroughs for 0.001 BTC. I don't particularly enjoy doing penny bundles, because I feel like it rips of the Devs, but it's all I can afford.

I'll do 25, 50, 100
I have tied my PP acc to my bank account so it should be a matter of minutes to receive the code.

Just gonna leave this here

I got a reply from HB about their stance on BTC.

Quote

Hey there,

The EFF has a great statement on BitCoin that closely follows our feelings toward BitCoin, which is available here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/06/eff-and-bitcoin

“We don’t fully understand the complex legal issues involved with creating a new currency system. Bitcoin raises untested legal concerns related to securities law, the Stamp Payments Act, tax evasion, consumer protection and money laundering, among others. And that’s just in the U.S. While EFF is often the defender of people ensnared in legal issues arising from new technologies, we try very hard to keep EFF from becoming the actual subject of those fights or issues. Since there is no caselaw on this topic, and the legal implications are still very unclear, we worry that our acceptance of Bitcoins may move us into the possible subject role.”

We like BitCoin and would love to accept it, but after contacting the EFF and a lawyer specializing in this sort of thing, we are not comfortable with the plethora of untested issues and legal traps, which would be a major distraction for us. We have been in contact with a number of bitcoin startups, and will be monitoring the landscape carefully.

Thank you for your support,

A logical stance, but it's a shame to think that the very currency that we all love is a potential target for legal leverage.

While HB may never accept Bitcoins, I'm starting up a Bitcoin-only alternative. I'll have an announcement when it's ready for debut.

Here's a couple of mail replies I got from humble bundle and EFF respectively on the topic. These were sent this summer:

Hi Gitle,

Thanks for the email. We do receive a fair amount of requests to support Bitcoin as a payment method. Unfortunately at this time we aren’t planning on adding it as an option.

We apologize for any inconvenience,

Thank you for contacting the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). I can't really speak to any conversations we may have had, since I am unaware of any of such conversations. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. We have heard from many supporters who differ with our stance on this. I will reiterate something from Cindy's announcement, which is the main reason that we are doing what we're doing:

"While EFF is often the defender of people ensnared in legal issues arising from new technologies, we try very hard to keep EFF from becoming the actual subject of those fights or issues. Since there is no caselaw on this topic, and the legal implications are still very unclear, we worry that our acceptance of Bitcoins may move us into the possible subject role." We are careful to choose the way we fight our battles, and we fight best when we're not defendants.

All that said, we understand your take, and thank you for sharing it with us!

Best regards,

Good catch, will edit main post

And wasn't that tried a while ago? I think this is more visual and immediate, but to each their own.

@Coinabul, that's a shame Sad Either way, my 100 bucks is down, we'll see how it goes. I intended to donate something to this magnitude anyway, they do good work. Figured I'd at least get my donation to maybe give bitcoin some exposure Smiley

Welcome back.

Personally I don't believe continuing to donate despite not having a Bitcoin option is a sound strategy. I'd be more supportive of collecting pledges with the promise to donate them once they accept Bitcoin.

PS What we have now isn't HIB 4 (we had HIB 6 in October), it's HB for Android 4.

@Mods, not sure honestly where this should go. I'm sorry if it's in the wrong spot, the forums are a lot different nowadays.

Long time no posting (for me anyway)!

Anyway, HiB (for android) #4 has kicked off, and I'm currently in control of a name at #2 (currently) promoting bitcoin ("please take bitcoin!").

I'll try and keep this up there, but if anyone wants to help out (I'm a largely poor college student, after all), I'm happy to take donations to the cause at 1gburgdu9DB2AekAvP7PaDZU7fcWbBsxM

Anything I get at that address will be used exclusively to increase my payment to HiB and thus keep "please take bitcoin!" on the list of top contributors. I figure this is our best shot at getting attention from the HiB staff, put our money where our mouth is. As a side note, I'll increment it in units of 5 dollars, in order to avoid bleeding them with transaction fees from credit cards and such.

If you want a gift code, PM me and we probably can work something out (ie, donate to the name, I'll use all but a dollar or whatever of that to increase the amount on the name, and then use the last dollar to get you a gift code).

Anyway, last I had heard they were aware of bitcoin but hesitant to implement it due to the hassle vs how much they'd expect to get out of it.

Otherwise, we can use this thread for whatever. I'm personally excited for Eufloria on my phone, that game is pretty fun. The rest I haven't played or seen much, so we'll see how good they are.

EDIT: Slightly more details on getting a code for your donation here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1326231
