There will be no DNA data bank. The DNA samples were collected with the promise that they will be destroyed immediately after the analysis. The results, also will not be stored anywhere.

Yes I know that was the official position. We shall see....

Yes, the most likely explanation for the whole situation is a secret government conspiracy to oppress these 500 high-school students in particular.

I doubt there will be full DNA analysis - the police are just going to see who refuses and focus any investigation on them.

The few students who did a DNA swab with a track record or opportunity will have their DNA examined.
They are not after the full genome of all (male) students and teachers - they are just doing normal detective work.

Also, legally speaking, the authorities can't keep the data from the DNA analysis. (That is, unless the contributors give their written consent to do so). Anyway.. what is the use in storing a few hundred DNA results?

The result for all the 527 tests is negative. Now what will happen to that DNA data bank?

Once some American politician suggested that the FBI should keep a DNA database of all its 300 million+ citizens. I don't know the cost for doing that.... but it would have been useful in such cases. But the problem is, when the law enforcement authorities are involved, there is always a chance of misusing the DNA data.

If they aren't being forced then I guess it isn't the worse thing this is happening.  I hope this doesn't become normal behavior meaning the rape and the DNA tests.

it probably won't ever become normal since it's too expensive to have a whole school DNA tested Cheesy

What does a DNA test cost, really?  Once it becomes wide spread and commonplace, it can probably be done for a few dollars.  It's just computation work, and the time of a lab tech.

The French National Health care would "absorb" the cost and add it to its monstrous debt. Big Pharma would compete to get that government contract for those millons of DNA kits.

Remember what happened with all those flue vaccines in France back then?

France plans to sell millions of surplus doses of the vaccine for the H1N1 flu strain. French newspaper Le Parisien says the government has asked diplomats to scout for potential buyers.

The French health ministry says it ordered 94 million individual vaccinations to provide two shots for every inhabitant. Doctors later decided that a single vaccination would be enough. The daily says Egypt has already purchased two million units of the vaccine, and Qatar another 300,000. Swine flu, known as Mexican flu in the Netherlands, has so far killed an estimated 198 people in France.

but only in France, for other nations it's not possible unless the country has enough money to throw it around

No country as enough money left. Only debt. But I get what you mean.
France had no budget to buy so many vaccines.  And yet the argument could be saving police resources, reducing the risk of getting the wrong person in prison, savings in the millions on the long run. If a country wants to do it, just put the picture of a sweet child, victim of a pre-mandatory DNA testing utopia on TV

Then someone will state the obvious one day: "Are those 24 999 other cases of rape not as important as this one? How come there is no mandatory DNA testing  inside the building, neighborhood, villages where those poor victims lived? Why wait for a rape to do DNA testing anyway? We should have a data bank of everyone, just in case..."

It can be considered to be another "fingerprint" and no one (with the possible exception of US?) collects everyone's fingerprints. Laws will have to be changed. But that's easy. Staging a large enough terrorist attack for such laws to seem reasonable to sheeple will be the hard part.

I don't think that the rapist was from the faculty or the student body. It was probably an intruder, who somehow managed to enter the high school premises despite the security measures.

Really? This seems unlikely. Occam would suggest that it is more likely to have been some-one who didn't have to break in, and like 80% of rapes are by some-one who knows the victim.

Speaking from experience, schools are anything but secure, I don't know the situation in France but here in the UK it's fucking stupid, any psychopath could easily enter and do whatever they want with children especially if it was after hours. Teachers are useless at breaking up even the most trivial of arguments or fights between students because they've had bugger all training and frankly I'm amazed there haven't been a lot more reported murders or assaults in schools but that just goes to show you the majority of people just want to live their lives peacefully.

Not saying that they should just go ahead and exclude anyone in the school of doing this, but it's pretty obvious if they've taken that long to investigate ( Why didn't they just do a DNA test before? ) then if they find it was somebody at the school they'd have fled the country by now or if it was a random psycho they'd have also fled the country because they've clearly made it pretty obvious they were searching for them.

Its a good news French believe in rule of law and justice we have no law for this just because of this have too much rapes in last few years

And their rule of law does marvelous things on the number of rapes in France

Nice find! Particularly like this one which kind of contradicts itself lol, these people aren't exactly 'perfectly' integrated into society if they're raping people are they?

The rapist is not mostly a foreigner, or single (living alone), or asocial, or impulsive. In most cases, he is perfectly integrated into society, married (or living with a woman) and with children.

Police have started conducting mass DNA tests of 527 male pupils, teachers and staff at a French high school following the “rape in the dark” of a teenager in the school toilets.

Detectives have asked 475 pupils, 31 teachers and 21 other staff present at a private lycée in La Rochelle, western France, on the day of the sex attack permission to take DNA samples from mouth swabs in an attempt to find the mystery rapist after months of fruitless searches.

The tests began this morning on adults and pupils aged 15 to 18. They were expected to last another two days at Fenelon-Notre Dame lycée, where a 16-year-old was sexually assaulted last September in a rest room.

As the lights were out during the attack, the victim was unable to identify the assailant visually but the genetic profile of a male individual believed to be the rapist was recovered from her clothing.

“This happened during the school day in a confined space,” said Chantal Devaux, the private Roman Catholic school’s director. “The decision to take such a large sample was made because it was the only way to advance the investigation.”

Students received their summonses last week.

Permission to take DNA samples requires the double consent of pupils and their parents, however refusal to agree to provide samples would be viewed as suspect and could be held for questioning, police said.

Most pupils were apparently happy to take part in the exercise but some said they regretted not being informed of the rape until several months after the attack.

Isabelle Pagenelle, the local prosecutor, said: “Forty samples will be taken per hour, under the watch of teachers when it comes to pupils, as photos and identity cards are not always trustworthy for minors.”
