OP, I don't want to be sceptical, but I think your idea will not work. Wikipedia is very strict for articles related with Bitcointalk because it's considered as not credible source. So, even if you will publish article, it may get deleted. Only few members of Bitcointalk have Satoshi, Hal Finney and few others have Wiki page, but they didn't got it for contribution on Bitcointalk, they got it for Bitcoin development. Even theymos don't have Wiki page.
But maybe it can be done on en.bitcoin.it wiki page...

You should have read the post further. He didn't say he was going to be adding these pages to Wikipedia, he mentioned MediaWiki which is the Open Source software Wikipedia runs off of. He would essentially be creating his own Wikipedia for this purpose, just like the Bitcoin Wikis did.
Oh, I missunderstood his post, thanks for clarifying it. Well, building own wiki from scratch is a lot work. It's not only about creating content for it. Good promotion of such website also would be needed that people would find this content. So, if it's possible, I think it would be best to use popular platform which is available already, like Bitcoin Wiki.

The heroes should be the early years of Bitcoin, may be from 2009 - 2012. The domain should not be the one you are using now as an extension to your forum which is a promotion somehow. It is better to host is in a decentralized cloud hosting to make it real and blend with the reality of blockchain revolution. You must ready to pay the editors and those who have skills in written. Nobody will want to work for free with this kind of idea that is relatively new

I agree, except for your last point. The whole point of a wiki is public information being sourced by individuals doing it on their own accord. Being paid may not work well within that establishment.

I mean, if the OP wants to get the site/info flowing on the site fast, maybe it's not a bad idea.

I agree with bitmover. Most of the original members who deserve to be treated this way are long gone. Those left are either handling business or plain helping others and keeping the ecosystem going. Very little original thought or contribution happens any longer.

The OP is free to document the users of course if you do it yourself on your own website. It will be very political but you will get traffic from all these newbies trying to find dirt on those who tag them..LOL.. It also shows a level of lack of innovation if we start making projects out of documenting the most merited users and what not. Instead, maybe just a wiki on the people who have contributed a lot in terms of core software as well as setting up businesses here. For example, the originals in the collectibles section, those who started the first online casinos, constant contributors in the development section. As a thumb rule, none of the people post 2015-16 should make the cut because it consists of mainly just users and not the buidlers.

There is little debate going on over OP's idea but it's really interesting to think about it in the long run. However, in the forum there are no fixed accounts, people do rubbish stuff like farming the accounts so you will never catch up true ownership of account. Also, I'm imagining what you could right up about those people who has no face, values unless and until you talk to them. However, idea looks nice but have above glitches cleared before hand. Smiley

The most reputable members of this forum, who would deserve a wiki page, would the first ones imo. Satoshi, Finn, maybe theymos. All those already have a page in the official forum wiki or in Wikipedia itself.

Personally I don't see much use in your wiki. If you start talking about less known members, but popular members here, it will be like Reputation board. a lot of drama, forum polictics, nobody like each other... etc

Creating a project for the youngsters to look at is quite okay but if you are going to get an admin and a contributor to work with you on that, you need to consider involving a payment of some sort for services rendered.

I don't know how citations and sources work in WikiMedia but in Wikipedia they don't allow sources coming from the forum sites like what we have that's why you won't be seeing any references from Bitcointalk in Wikipedia. If this is the same case for WikiMedia you'll be having a hard time creating these members a page since Bitcointalk links won't be allowed, you have to cite sources and references outside of the forum for you to be able to create their page and I think it will be a hard thing to do.

Is it sad irony or plain coincidence that OP seems to be plagiarising the efforts of a recently passed bitcointalk legend? I refer to the "final exit scam" phrasing, just weeks after our very own Phinneaus Gage posted this.

@OP apply for editorial rights to the existing wiki. It's where the heroes you talk about deserve to live.

I am looking for a MediaWiki site expert to be an admin of this project and someone who is experienced in writing Wikipedia articles as a contributor.
This will be my exit scam contribution to the great forum who gave us the power for a revolution if I did not make it out of this COVID-19 outbreak.
When you say as a contributor, do you mean to work without pay (for free), if the purpose is like this then it is difficult to find such a person because the page is hosted on your site.
If you want to hire someone, you can create a topic in the services section, pay in (BTC or Altcoin) and you will find enough interest.

What does this have to do with developing projects?

So I have this idea of building a wiki for the Heroes of Bitcointalk which are not recorded in the official wiki let's say a reputable member of bitcointalk should be recorded in a Wikipedia for the youngster to look at.
You can always try to "request for editing privileges" on this forum and edit the official wiki page.

I don't think you should call that your contribution due to the following reasons:

  • You're looking for someone else to do the contribution/management part.
  • You didn't even give it its own domain, it's just an extension to your own forum which makes everything look like an indirect promotion of your forum instead of what you're trying to present here.

IMHO, I see no reason for building this project of yours...
- You've introduced a solution for non-existent issues and at the same time making everything a bit more complicated.

First of all, the definition of 'reputable' is debatable. As shown in most cases, not everyone agrees A is a good person or B is inherently evil. This will obviously make the wiki be a bit biased if you proceed to do so. Not to mention we already have thread such as https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/legendary-profiles-of-bitcointalk-3247239 or https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-most-iconic-bitcointalk-threads-history-on-bitcointalk-4322078. I believe you can post or improve them by creating new content over there.

The last thing, if you're looking for admin then be prepared to pay them. I doubt anyone is gonna work for free for a website that's relatively new.

I really hope we can build this before this virus gets us.

Now take care guys and to the moderator who deleted my message sorry if I advertised too much. I am just trying to point out that I really need help in my revolution too that I am not alone into these wars of ours. Thank you for understanding.
